Tomb Raider: A Netflix Original Anonymous 10/13/2024 (Sun) 18:22:00 Id: 04537b No. 1027123
Introducing Netflix's take on the Tomb Raider series, starring the lovely Lara Croft! Sarcastic header over. I did watch this schlock so you didn't have to. It wasn't very good. Lara in particular struggled to land, because it's like they erased all her character development from the entire reboot series. By the end of the first game (let alone second or third) she went from a fearful girl into a ruthless fucking murderess. Then in this series she's crying and having panic attacks twice an episode while needing to talk about her feelings all the time. Same for Croft manor. End of the series, it was restored and she was living there with it as her base in the last scene. Cartoon? It's a ruin. Still. It's fucking weird and tonally a whiplash, and the animation isn't good enough to gloss over it (and the characters are collectively ugly, the designs are terrible). I can't work out who this cartoon was supposed to be made for. It wasn't for fans of the reboot series, since it ignores character development she had there, and it certainly wasn't for fans of old Lara (or "real Lara"). So who the fuck is the audience? All that and I didn't even get into the whitewashing of Chinese history (Daji is not fucking misunderstood), including that ludicrous "secret Alexandria archive" in China funded by the government that "restores artifacts to their rightful owners unlike the British Museum". How much did China pay Netflix to include that? I'd like to know. Anyways, use this thread to discuss Tomb Raider as well as the new show
>>1027123 (OP) In pic 2, Tomb Raider II Lara has the best design since she looks like a happy tomboy.
(30.96 MB 1080x1080 muff raider.mp4)

>>1027123 You forgot to include this.
>>1027123 I feel terrible for fans of the original Tomb Raider. I'm honestly surprised no one has tried making a spirtual successor considering how different the original games and the new games are. What's the closest thing we have? Haydee?
>>1027163 Fans of the original have the Angelina Jolie movies.
>>1027123 Tell me if this was the same shit as the Castlevania show anon: >Terrible lip sync; >Copius amount of fuck/shit/fucking/shitting to the point it sounds like a 15 year old wrote the script; >Serviceable action sequences (usually the only good part of anything this studio does);
>>1027179 I'd argue that movies aren't video games, but we've seen how Sony makes their shit.
>>1027163 >I feel terrible for fans of the original Tomb Raider. >Implying the fans of the original Tomb Raider aren't either all already dead withered husks inside after decades of Crystal Dynamics mismanagement >Or aren't all hyper progressive "superfans" that love this slop and the relevance it's bringing them We got six good games.... well, four good games, and two others... out of the original Tomb Raider franchise. It's over now. They can parade around the corpse of the franchise all they want at this point. I've been on the internet long enough to no longer be bothered by degenerates fucking corpses. It's the same arc I went through with Phantasy Star. PSO was ok as it's own thing, but it made me crave an MMO set in Algol during the classic series. Phantasy Star Universe, which on the surface promised such an experience, was a complete shitshow and burned me out as a fan. Now I look at Phantasy Star Online 2:NG and just... feel nothing. It's not even a bastardization of what I once loved. It's an entirely different franchise. Tomb Raider is the same way. We are getting Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered, and from what I've seen of the Tomb Raider I-III Remaster, it's in about as good of hands as you could reasonably expect these days.
>>1027193 So, you didn't care for Shadow of the Tomb Raider? The huge puzzles certainly felt like a blast from the past.
>>1027227 It was a great Uncharted game.
>>1027123 Remember when people thought Embracer Group buying this IP was the start of a rehabilitation for the IP?
>>1027260 Anons were only so positive on them because they did an AMA here years ago. Their level of industry consolidation was never a good thing.
>>1027123 >How much did China pay Netflix to include that? I'd like to know Look who wrote the shit and production history, Tasha Huo. Sound like chinese already. >Wrote The Witcher: Blood Origin. And she sucks hard.
>>1027261 Embracer group isn't the same thing as THQ Nordic.
(48.30 KB 720x480 Carlos_Ramon.jpg)

>>1027262 >Look who wrote the shit and production history, Tasha Huo So literally "who"?
>>1027163 I already accepted it died a long time ago. I just tune out all the new cancer at this point.
(33.14 KB 480x409 tbraps0f.webp)

As an OG fan from way back this shit boils my blood. Lara Croft has been sacrificed on the altar of the fabled "Modern Audience". At least I have the original games and their remastered forms to keep the memory alive. This new shit can get fucked.
>>1027288 Will 4-6 remaster get a new Lara model for porn
>>1027328 I'm not going to bother playing the IV-VI remaster, though I have the I-III remaster. The Last Revelation, Chronicles, and The Angel of Darkness aren't as good.
>>1027328 Aren't the 1-3 models really constrained by the need to fit the original skeleton/animations/hitbox? Interested in seeing what they do with 16 year old Lara though.
>>1027362 If Aspyr has source code for the Tomb Raiders they remastered, Aspyr could have made a new skeleton with new animations and the old hitbox. Developers can separate models from hitboxes.
>>1027436 Too much work
>>1027436 But then you're fucking with gameplay mechanics since Lara would be different size, which fucks with combat and platforming.
>>1027676 Gameplay mechanics can stay the same and another Lara model can stay the same width, height, and depth.
(317.61 KB 1280x720 tomb raider joke.webm)

This is probably the only joke to land in the entire series and I doubt the creators intended for it to be read that way.
>>1027123 >Rihanna Pratchett and Gail Simone finally got their dyke carpet munching retard Lara Croft. wew
>>1027792 >another Lara model can stay the same width, height, and depth And that's what they did with the 1-2-3 trilogy. The problem is that to do so you have to work within a width, height, depth and proportions that were never intended for anything but that one specific model. Can't change how longer her arms are, or how wide her hips are etc. The 1-2-3 trilogy has very cartoony proportions as a result and isn't what I'd pick for porn.
>>1027833 Paris is terrible trash but Marseille is getting a hell of a lot worse.
>>1027971 For people 5 and younger, what's the Muslim % in France?
>>1027154 You gotta ask yourself, do these shows/nu-games turn any actual profit? I believe that maybe 1 out of 10 of them are actual success stories, even though 9 out of 10 are treated as such. >>1027833 Joke is fine but all modern comedy sucks at tempo. I guess if the entire story is joyless then it might get a cheap laugh out of you, but the fact they have to spell out the joke kind of kills it. Can't be all Naked Guns and Laurel and Hardy I suppose. >>1028076 It's incredible how all displaced Ukrainians could immediately get a job in European nations but Moslems who have been here for decades are still at the hunter/gatherer murderrrape part of their skill tree. Even the Africans can at least do menial jobs. Only Islamic group that I've routinely seen doing any work is the Pakistani, and that's only because it's cheaper for the Chinese to pay them to do their job for them.
(608.94 KB 480x360 Take Him To Detroit.mp4)

>>1028106 >You gotta ask yourself, do these shows/nu-games turn any actual profit? No, but that's not the point of why they're made. >Can't be all Naked Guns and Laurel and Hardy I suppose. The jokes are all copy-pasted from every other series almost 1-to-1. Yes, this has been a problem with comedy since forever, however people still tried to be creative in how the joke was executed or at least there was some understanding of WHY it still worked. <Contrast the Paris joke to this scene from Kentucky Fried Movie. Almost practically the same joke, but what's so terrible about going to Paris? The only reason I can think of is because it's populated by the French.
>>1028106 >do these shows/nu-games turn any actual profit? Tomb Raider reboot might be one of the earliest examples (along with Bioshock Infinite) of the now industry wide terminal problem of game budgets being so high that even having respectable sales still resulted in a loss.

>for all their talk the retards making miss say about respecting native cultures bullshit, they chose Chile to set the first part in >the South American country that does not have jungles and doesn't have native ruins like the ones featured >South Americans are mocking the shit out of Netflix's ability to fuck up such basic research
>>1028121 >what's so terrible about going to Paris You've never seen that picture of that one Parisian shop in the 50s being pristine and surrounded by happy and clean looking Frenchmen vs the one from 202x being surrounded by garbage and muslims? France has imported hundreds of thousands of shitskins over the past 40 years, and most of them have settled in Paris. The City of Light is now the City of Garbage, Sharia Law, and no-go zones.
>>1028121 >what's so terrible about going to Paris Look up "Paris Syndrome" for a funny parable of Japs coming across the exact reality >>1028286 describes.
(9.05 MB 1920x1080 Paris.mp4)

>>1028294 >>1028286 >You've never seen that picture of that one Parisian shop in the 50s being pristine and surrounded by happy and clean looking Frenchmen vs the one from 202x being surrounded by garbage and muslims Anon, watch the clip up here: >>1027833 Which version of Paris are they depicting? The "real" Paris that's in the process of committing cultural suicide and bringing the rest of the country down with it, or the "idealic" Paris that French and travel companies have spent billions on advertising and maintaining a clean and high-cultured image of.
(21.88 MB 1024x576 Bioshock.webm)

>>1028172 If they were so worried about raiding other cultures, then just have Lara steal some European artifact, like King's Arthur's sword. Legends even had a somewhat clever idea, in that the real sword was actually hidden in a amusement park with a King Arthur theme. Or maybe get the Antikythera mechanism, oh wait the latest Indiana Jones already did that, then Roman Dodecahedron and make some bullshit story about them. Or do Angel of Darkness and have her steal the Mona Risa in some sort of Da Vinci code rip-off, and you can still keep the Paris joke. Or maybe the weapon Satnt George used to slay the dragon, and make some story with that, but I guess that is too Christian for them. Maybe there is some sort of ruin beneath Stonehenge or it is used to point to some other ruin or ancient civilization. There are plenty of ways of doing a Laura Croft good stories, just by keeping her in Europe, of course they lack imagination, but also wanted "to respect other cultures". >>1028286 >shop in the 50s being pristine and surrounded by happy and clean looking Frenchmen That version of Paris didn't exist in the 50s, and it probably never existed, except in carefully constructed French fantasies. t. (((Philip Kennicott)))
oh, i get it, they made her a dike and the chicks she's with had an abortion, she is still a tomb raider

>>1028297 >>1028311 >Symptoms of actually visiting Paris include: anxiety, dizziness, tachycardia, depersonalization, and vomiting.
>>1028354 If you or a loved one suffer from Paris Syndrome, it's time to talk about a cure, cause right now there isn't any. Consult a doctor if any of the above side effects last longer than one week, or if you have pneumonia, rabies, kidney failure, SARS Cov 2, itchy and burning eyes, or are suffering from blood loss caused by "surgical opening". Paris Syndrome worsens, nothing can help.
>>1027123 >(Daji is not fucking misunderstood) I've not seen this show and I have no intention to but unless it went with the explination that actually Daji was possessed by a wicked fox demon then any attempt to launder her behavior is bullshit of the highest order.
>>1028304 Speaking of death and decay and Paris, there's miles upon miles of catacombs under Paris which is usually blocked off to the public because so many people died down there either due to thugs/hobos or flooding. Who knows what traps and artifacts and whatnot could be hidden in those tunnels and tombs. The catacombs are pretty famous, so it'd be easy to tie them to some ancient legend and still have a point of reference for the audience. What other games have taken place in the Paris Catacombs? The only one that comes to mind off the top of my head is Medal of Honor Underground, but it seems like it'd be a popular spooky setting.
>>1028361 There is no cure for Paris, there is only a Final Solution.
>>1028380 Deus Ex, of course
>>1028380 Someone stole a skull from those catacombs to literally skull-fuck it then blogged it online.

>>1027123 Here's a bit of an update: Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft didn't break into the Top 10 TV Shows on Netflix during its release week. For the week of October 7th-13th, #10 on the chart had 1.8 million views. The Tomb Raider series premiered on the 10th, so even after 3 days, its views stayed below 1.8 million. https://archive.md/2xodK This isn't because the other shows released earlier and had an advantage. On the most recent chart, which shows October 14th-20th, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft is still missing from the Top 10. #10 on the list has 2 million views, which means that even after being out for almost two weeks, the show still hasn't generated at least 2 million views. https://archive.md/PLHWw

>>1031890 The Japanese are going stir-crazy for Digital Circus, which is unusual since they usually steer clear of (western) queers. I guess it is hitting the same niche as Undertale did, and Homestuck before that.
>>1031895 >last pic >turning her human COWARDS
>>1031901 >her I guess the VA is, character is probably a male tranny though.
>>1031890 >>1031895 >The disillusioned Glitchfaggots. Those are low numbers shill.
>>1031890 Considering how many shows there are on Netflix, and how many of the customers probably aren't the target audience of the show, it is pretty impressive indeed. >>1031895 The show is quirky, but not enough to put most people off immediately at least I think so, I'm never going to actually watch it. And there is a cute factor, especially with Pomni. Quirky and cute sells big in Japan and it's easy to make merch for. All those plushies and pieces of plastic will rake in a lot of money. Funny thing is, if you look at the Top 10 most popular shows on Netflix in Japan, Digital Circus isn't on there. >I guess it is hitting the same niche as Undertale did, and Homestuck before that. Japan likely has a large demographic of teenagers who don't necesarily like "mainstream" entertainment, and thus gravitate to series like the ones you mentioned, just like in the west. >>1031908 Apparently she's "nonbinary." Seems like the creators of the show have confirmed that the character she voices is too. It's fitting that the character who is canonically nonbinary seems to be an amalgamation of nonsensical parts. Doesn't really convey the message they thought it would.
>>1031937 >Seems like the creators of the show have confirmed that the character she voices is too. Archive?
>>1031938 Here. The creator of the series got a couple of questions regarding the character's gender and answered them on tumblr. >The subtitles say "he'll" but the script says "they'll" so I think that was just an error on the subtitler's part. That being said, I think Zooble's pretty alright with any pronouns. https://archive.md/yh0nQ >Also is zooble agender? >Zooble is Zooble. https://archive.md/jRJ67
>>1031908 Pretty sure the creator of the show Gooseworx is a tranny itself.

>>1031888 >Unsolved Mysteries, a show from 19-fucking-93 got more viewership than the "hot new" Tomb Raider show. Holy shit, what's next, is Season 2 going to lose out to ALF?
(53.33 KB 686x386 SMG3 Mah boi.jpg)

(140.63 KB 1192x670 SMG4 did 911.jpg)

>>1031895 My best guess is the flashy and colorful artstyle, same with RWBY despite its obvious poz. >Homestuck Homestuck was fucking popular to the point of oversaturating Pixiv's algorithm? >>1031914 >Neo-Elsagate Productions <Using bots to show that indie shit remains popular because their crayon eating audience is a minority That is so anti-semitic, bruh >>1031947 <OOPS IT'S ALL TRANNIES Not to mention the shitty Gmod videos that put Glitch productions in the map are such cancer, even more cancerous than Skibidi Toilet because they have the brilliant idea of producing "touching and provoking" moments with half-assed animation.
>>1031962 With how these animated series are usually produced, Season 2 is probably already made, or very close to being done. The odds that we may see ALF beat out Tomb Raider are high. What a world we live in.
>>1031888 Another tiny update: the most recent list of Top 10 TV Shows on Netflix has been released. And to no ones surprise, the Tomb Raider series is not a part of it. The show has been out for over 17 days now, but it was still unable to garner over 2.2 million views this past week and get into at least the 10th spot. It was clear as day before we even saw the first episode that this show would be a total failure, but now there is data to show it, and from Netflix themselves no less. https://archive.md/IPsdm
>>1032045 I hear Homestuck in its heyday was so malignant it inadvertantly killed that Webcomic project Bandai-Namco was running (Shiftylook) to revitalize old series like Wonder Momo, Klonoa, and Bravoman because they hired Hussie to add Trolls as guest characters in a browser VN called Namco High that caused the site to get so many visitors it crashed only for those visitors to leave the moment they got what they wanted, convincing the execs that the site had no growth potential because it couldn't retain that pop without understanding why the pop happened (because nip boomers are retarded)
>>1032923 They literally had a strong female woman that everybody loved and they butchered her into a simpering weakling so they could "subvert expectations" and punish the "chuds" who liked her for the wrong reasons. They have no standards. At all.
>>1031888 >>1032923 I've never even heard of any of these shows except for Circus, this show's publicity is purely from the IP and it being another woke failure, if it wasn't for the Tomb Raider name and the show were instead a new IP it would've been forgotten within half a day.
>>1032980 > its heyday was so malignant Must be the first instance Nips saw their tumblr scam Homestuck fags were notorious for using spam bots.

>>1034949 The proceeding court action not so much.
>>1033015 Only one I've heard of is The Lincoln Lawyer. It's a Bosch spinoff that can't actually say it's a Bosch spinoff because the author's two book series have been licensed by different streaming services.
