Otherwise GOOD games with bad music Anonymous 04/12/2025 (Sat) 17:00:46 Id: 3a6e43 No. 1088454
Are there any (otherwise) good games with bad music overall? There's a lot with forgettable or bland music, and certainly some with a few really crap tracks as well as some with no music, but all the ones I can think of with bad music don't even have bad compositions, but are just (at worst) decent compositions completely undercut by technical limits like poor audio hardware/storage space (pic 2 related) or specific to certain versions of the game. Pic 3 (It's essentially a level pack for THPS4) music is one I turn off, but Is suspect the target audience in 2003 would have been more appreciative.

Hylics 1's music in general. I don't know if this was an artistic choice or not considering Mason Lindroth would later ask Chuck Salamone to make (really good) music for Hylics 2, but the songs are painful to listen to.

It could've been at least a half decent game if it wasn't for the music.

Completely fucking unmemorable orchestral music for 80% of the soundtrack. It doesn't help the OST largely doesn't fit the game,
Oops, accidentally hit Reply too early. Take this track for example. It's alright, but it sounds like it belongs in MediEvil game, not Ratchet & Clank. Unfortunately, the OST never improves from here and the games continue with this cinematic orchestral theming. I have no idea why Insomniac picks this for their pulp sci-fi series famous for its electronic soundtracks.
There's only 3 good tracks in the entire game, and one plays so often I got sick of it, while the rest play for just about 2 missions each. It's the only AC game I've played thus far, so I've got no idea if I'm insulting the entire series' music or if this one was the outlier.

>>1088454 Voxelibre. Not the main music, but the collectable music discs. They're unlistenable, even for volunteer work it's surprisingly bad >>1088521 Jesus that does sound like a MediEvil track
>>1088454 Pic rel Granted it's a rage game so "good" is really only if you in relation to the rest of the genre But yeah the music is some of the worst chiptune diarrhea with regular sample shoved in it cause why not. It's extra baffling in that the guy obviously can and has done better.
>>1088454 Conceptually and mechanically it's a fantastic game. But the one singular song it has sucks massive amounts of dick, it's insane.
>>1088454 Magical Vacation. Really charming game but the music is just really bad, even compared to other GBA games, it sounds like they fucked up and made the instruments out of tune with eachother or something. First time I booted the game up I thought there was something wrong with my system or something. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KsamzrTk1g&list=PL7R80LC052Wn1OfUU1fSfX9WkB8t1SsKb&index=6

Obviously one of the best cart racers ever, I've played it so many times. Yet I could not tell you what most of the soundtrack is like. It's just completely forgettable and downright unfinished sounding. Save for a few examples like the intro or hub music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXcGc1eBf38 Seriously this would sound primitive on SNES hardware, it has no business being so simple on Playstation.
>>1088478 This game was such a tragedy. Sonic exploring other planets and fighting aliens is such a great concept. It could have been Sonic's Paper Mario if not for the incompetence of Bioware. That and the subsequent lawsuits mean we will never get Sonic RPG kino again. >>1088578 Hard disagree. There may only be a few standout tracks but the overall quality is definitely not bad and is much better than shit like >>1088519

Not bad, just extremely out of place in general (as good as the Malak theme and Manaan ambience are). Mark Griskey did a much better job with music in KOTOR2.
Sekiro There were like 2 good songs in the whole game
Metroid Dread. Only track I remember was the one in the lava factory area that sounded like "Something's Up With Jack" from Nightmare Before Christmas, only for how unfitting it was in a Metroid game. Good game, dogshit soundtrack.
>>1088454 Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun
