Necrodancer thread (and cadence of hyrule I guess) Anonymous 04/16/2025 (Wed) 09:40:48 Id: 51983b No. 1095298
Discuss Crypt, Cadence of Hyrule and Rift of the Necrodancer in this thread. You love rhythm games and roguelites right?? Brag about beating the game if you did. I finally beat Aria, Bolt, Monk and Nocturna all zones modes recently, in that order. It felt great, clocking in around ~100 hours of playtime in Crypt. Only got around 20 hours in Rift, the songs on hard difficulty really get difficult after a point. Charming rhythm games, I regret not learning about them until recently. Now I'm not sure if I want to actually try to unlock Coda and attempt the ultimate challenge Crypt of the Necrodancer has to offer. Get the games on your favorite russian forum >Crypt https://cs.rin.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=65142&hilit=necrodancer >Rift https://cs.rin.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=125772&hilit=necrodancer
>>1095298 I love how the characters really shake the game up. They are all so unique. Eli is my favorite, and both Bard/Chaunter are cool. Posting best song as well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SPb4130v7g

>>1095460 Wish there were more stages or boss fights with a similar gimmick. You wouldn't believe how many times King Konga killed my aria runs when I least expected it. When you're hyperfocused on surviving enemy patterns, BOOM you forget about the 7th silent beat. OST-wise for me it's: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHm_NiSdrbc Especially the first 20 seconds or so. This song screams OBJECTIVE: SURVIVE
>>1095298 I really, really, really like Cadence. Such a great design, I've been in love with her since 2015. All her games are great, too bad I suck major ass at Crypt. I managed to clear everything until Aria back in the day, but I could never get past the Golden Lute boss, no matter how many times I tried. At least with Rift I can brute force my way through the songs by sheer repetition.

>>1095739 >I really, really, really like Cadence. Sex with her to the beat. >but I could never get past the Golden Lute boss, no matter how many times I tried. I had this and a few freeze items to help me. I have no shame. Even after practicing the fight for a while I could never defeat it.
>>1096132 >Sex with her to the beat. To the beat of what song? Answer carefully, because you know what happens if you miss too many beats. >I had this and a few freeze items to help me. Good advice. Thought it's been almost a decade at this point so I feel like I'll have to relearn the whole game fro scratch if I want to get to that point again...
>>1097838 >what song? https://youtu.be/SanxcMGBHY8 >almost a decade Still can't believe a game this good eluded my knowledge for so long. My fault for not giving a proper look at indies and being a casul. I think if you play it again you might find it's like how you never forget to ride a bike. Your body probably still remembers...

>>1108475 Good choice. For me it's probably https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjyMXmPmefQ >Still can't believe a game this good eluded my knowledge for so long. Better late than never, anon. I'm still finding old hidden gems all the time and I'm sure we're not the only ones either. >I think if you play it again you might find it's like how you never forget to ride a bike. Your body probably still remembers... We'll see... I'm definitely planning on going back to it soon cause I haven't played any of the DLCs after Amplified.
I wonder if the unused classic Cadence sprites that were in the demo of Rift are going to get used eventually. I was hoping there would be unlockables of some kind in the base game.
>>1121527 These look really nice damn Maybe they could be modded in?
>>1128299 Probably, but it's not all the animations and there's a bunch of missing frames in the ones that are there, so it would look awkward at best sadly. I'm still optimistic they'll add it as downloadable content someday, maybe along with a pack of classic songs from Crypt.

>>1131958 Damn, amazing sprite work, those look really cool. Guess I have one more excuse to replay now.

>literally impossible
>>1154555 >character forces you to be constantly on the offensive, deleting your ability to buffer and collect your thoughts when there are no enemies around >you don't even have the time to think about what items you can pick at all times Tempo is a fun gimmick character but yeah, it can be harder than Aria because you can't go at your own pace and depending on the layout of the levels. Aria dies if you don't reach the exit in time (this can be negated with food) but with Tempo unless you have an item your windows of opportunity to have these "stop and think" moments are limited. I recently tried Reaper and it's a surprisingly funny comfort run by the end, even if it's a little gimmicky in zone 1 and 2. By the time you reach zone 4/5, you just annihilate everything with your army of ghosts off-screen. It's broken but very satisfying. In a way you become a necrodancer in the proper sense of the word.
leave king conga to me
>>1128299 >>1131958 Turns out, someone DID make a mod for custom portraits for Rift of the Necrodancer. But from what I've gathered, it can only be used in custom levels, meaning that modders have to specifically pack the custom portraits into the modded track and users with the mod will see them in game. I don't think you can replace sprites in any of the vanilla tracks (yet). https://github.com/96-LB/CustomPortRifts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29wiIiOfLn4

>>1173188 The two hand taps didn't have to go so hard. I kneel. >>1175517 >But from what I've gathered, it can only be used in custom levels Bummer. How did you find it, by the way? I knew this existed and saw a thread on reddit discussing it, then started looking in the workshop to locate it and found that other mod instead.
>>1177491 Ran into this video while randomly looking for Rift mods https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGlnWcVBKhc
Not a huge fan of the gameplay in Rift. Imagine creating the best dungeon crawler ever made and switching to a basic ass rhythm game
>>1095298 I wish there was a character that had to move on your more classic type of beatmap, would take a lot of effort and fuck with the multiplayer tho also is rift literally just a guitarhero type?
>>1188040 Well, there is Melody Madness if you want to know what that would play like. It was last updated in 2014 so it only works for the first 3 zones and the default soundtrack. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=354270907 I like it in concept but it's a lot to manage when you're also playing a dungeon crawler along with your rhythm game. Still, it would be nice if there was a finished version of this, but I haven't been able to find anything else like that on the workshop.

>>1178012 Thanks, makes sense. >>1178823 >>1188040 Rift somewhat plays similarly to guitar hero or DDR with only three inputs but to say it's basic is a massive understatement. The enemies/notes have their own separate patterns, and by that I mean each of them is unique. It really feels like playing crypt in that sense, there's that satisfying feeling of getting used to their behaviors when playing a song. I've seen a lot of complaints about chart reading being difficult, and while I partially agree, it's just part of the game. One gripe I have is how some songs are too easy on normal but are a little too autistic in hard mode, reminds me of the Aria difficulty spike kind of. You can only tell if you play it. The yellow armadillos and the traps give me the most trouble.
>>1190043 >Merlin lewds Whew, I didn't know I needed that. Cadence has always been my top pick but I'm hoping we'll see more art of the other girls. Especially Dove and Harmonie.

>try an all-chars run for laughs >expect to fail, pick aria >actually beat her part without much trouble (is it easier in all-chars?) >game black screens after I defeat the golden lute >restart, redo the boss fight again but with the lobby music instead >game bugs out and locks me after I kill it one more time >stuck epic game I didn't mean that double post above by the way.
