Mega Man thread Anonymous 04/16/2025 (Wed) 21:39:13 Id: 4fd284 No. 1102594
Since 4chan is kill lets talk about other dead things.
The most memorable thing about megaman for me isn't even the games. Its okkusenman. I cry like a bitch everytime I hear it.
>>1102664 A common sentiment, I bet many anons feel the same. You could feel the despair escape the singer's voice.
i usually a contrarian about well regarded games but mega man 2 was a good time
>>1103355 MM2's quality drops off a cliff after the first Wily Castle stage imo
I think Mega Man Battle Network is pretty cool, one of my favorites is Colonel.EXE
>>1102594 Good god Roll does things to me.
megaman x corrupted never ever
>>1103448 it just really helped for me to know about the bullshit like quick man's stage (without time stopper), buebeam trap, and alien wily's weakness ahead of time
>>1103577 Also forgot to add that MM3 and MM5 had the best title screen themes.
>>1103448 The only thing I don't like about MM2 is introducing the "Ha ha you don't have enough of this one very specific sub weapon? FUCK YOU! RE DO IT ALL!" mechanic
>>1104295 It even does it twice.

(114.68 KB 699x737 1718210767220278.jpg)

>>1104295 MM2 is good but very overrated, it makes sense since it was the best selling tittle untill 11 so i imagine not everyone tried many games after, but 3 adding the slide was a vast improvement. Also people sleep on how good I and specially V are because they are Game Boy games.
(16.15 KB 996x890 technicolor iron golem.png)

>>1104958 >I and V indeed IV is the best of the GB games >ceal /mmg/?
>>1114535 I liked the punch the charge shot in IV had, it pushing you backwards when used in middair had a nice feel.
Wish ZX did its own thing and stop this robots vs humans autism that started in X. Zero finally put an end to it since the plot was really about Neo Arcadia being nuts and Weil being a sore loser then ZX goes back to BUT BUT THE DIVIDE BETWEEN HUMANS AND ROBOTS IS CLOSING blah blah blah. Sigma btw
>>1114602 Z4 had plenty of human and robot racism though and the plot of the first Zero game was that robots were seen as second class citizens and Copy X chose to throw them under the bus during the energy crisis just to make human lives more comfortable.
Any decent fan games or spiritual successors? Really liked Gravity Circuit and the later GVs.
>>1114664 He did nothing wrong, reploids can be mass produced infinitely where as human meatbags are a limited existence making them more special and valuable.
Why do they never tell you how much reploids annihilated human reproduction?
>>1114906 >Any decent fan games Rock force assuming you haven't played it yet SFR is pretty fun too.
>>1114906 Virtua Unlimited Project is pretty good, it kinda steals some of the best level design of Mega Man in some places. Don't care about the story or vtubers though so i just skiped that.

>>1114602 It has to be the middle step between Z and Legends, which has no real humans left. What ZX needed was more Aile and her wife.
I've never played Mega Man, what's the best game for newbs? I think the closest thing I tried was Shovel Knight, I guess
>>1115610 The biggest problem child in that thread alleged to be pro-Inti however
>>1116253 MM2, X1, X4, Zero 3, and Battle Network 3 is the usual newfag pack. Maybe add MM11 in there nowadays.
Are there any games that uses the ATB system that BN did, it felt like the best way to have dynamic turn based combat, though the grid was too small. Dont say One Step from Eden please I already know that one, its fucked over because the hack who made it made it rogueslop instead of something with a linear gameplan. It took place in an interesting setting too some planet devasted by an apocalyptic magical war or some shit. The main girl makes me think of Ciel so much
play 8bdm
3 style change can't be your current element right?
>>1116139 You can do so much fun bullshit in white because of getting so many freebie stages in shops and ground style I like white more than blue because of this
>>1116976 you can't go from wood to wood if that's what you mean
>>1116976 Correct. Your next style will always be a different element from your current style.
>bugstyle movement bug doth bugstop stop this
>>1116388 Chrono X demo.
(438.64 KB 480x621 Mega_Man_community.png)

>>1116253 Mega Man Power Battle :^). Unironically this was my introduction to the franchise through a Mame pack of some sort a but I was too young to recognize what it actually was.
>>1117549 Bugstop works for navicust bugs only. Bug style bugs are fixed to chance no matter what. The best you can do if you got that is to modify the field for better movement, like digging a hole or putting an object on the top or bottom right tiles for middle row spacing.
>>1116253 MM3 is a good classic game for newbs, it introduces the slide, gives you plenty of E-tanks, and doesn't do the double castle thing at the end.
>>1118194 > doesn't do the double castle thing at the end. Doc Robots were the start of the double castle thing.
>>1118194 3 is possibly the worst classic game for newbs
>>1114602 Did it not? Thought the four fuckheads with the guardian medals in Advent were a mix of humans and reploids
>>1115610 would that happen to be the guy who says there's a "Mega Man 2 cult" or whatever I don't remember if it was on /v/ or /vr/
>>1115054 >>1115123 I tried the demo for this last night and while it's impressive just how accurate it is to the Zero and ZX games, it also feels TOO blatant to the point of feeling very unoriginal. Like I don't need the highway level from X1 with the same exact Buzz Bomber crashing down gimmick to enjoy a Mega Man game. It's kind of a problem I have with a lot of fangames, they stick a bit too close to the source material sometimes to their detriment.
(135.31 KB 424x464 1590253553179.png)

10 & 11 are the best Classic games (9 is just a tier below), can't think of another old-school IP like Mega Man where the most recent/modern entries are the best without completely changing what they were. V and &Bass are excellent too though, a bit rough but underrated.
>>1121530 Yeah, there's a lot that's stolen from Gunvolt too, like the not-astrasphere you get as your default super. The ripping off is so blatant that it loops around to being charming in a way.
>>1120844 >Because Mega Man is supposed to be a family friendly franchise. And by Asian standards you can do violence but sex is icky. Japan used to have this completely reversed. This used to be almost exclusively an American thing. That's why inafune, grifter he is, still pushed for Roll's panties in MvC
>>1120705 We need robots NOW, is the moral of astro boy. Making self-sufficient machines is the end goal of the most rapidly developing fields of engineering, and the consequences of such decisions are only considered after they've already been made. Astro Boy is about humans out-engineering themselves and the dangers of rapid progress. Mega Man just inherited that lesson by being Astro-Boy lite.

(38.79 KB 512x381 type_chart.png)

>>1116388 Shanghai.exe is Battle Network meets Touhou. It's made for experience fans so it is pretty challenging, especially with the type chart with double weakness and effectiveness. It also combines the style system of 2 & 3 with 6 drop down menu to allow you to switch styles during fights. The Doctor style in the pic has a passive that allow you to have up to 12 chips. >>1122015 Seconding this. It has pretty much every mechanic that was in BN.
>>1122015 Shame development stopped.
>>1122533 Yeah, it's a real bummer. The anon working on it seems to have stopped. At least the main game is done, so it has a beginning, middle, and END. It just lacks a postgame iirc.
(150.24 KB 480x320 Whisky.gif)

>>1122015 I keep forgetting to download this Do you have the patch that restores all the BN references or does this version already have it
>>1121686 I remember Megaman and Bass being horrifically difficult. Was that just me as a shitty teen or was it actually proper bullshit?
>>1122805 If you played the GBA version you suffered from worse controls and atrocious screen crunch. The SNES version can still be rough at times too, King Stage 2 is a contender for the hardest stage in the whole franchise.
>>1122836 Played on GBA first as a westerner. Then saw the SNES version so screen crunch was a big issue. GBA ports were a crapshoot in that way. Wasn’t there also a Megaman 8 port that got fucked up too? From an old collection?
>>1122882 The PS2 collection was probably the fucked up one, since the Legacy Collection version is fine. But yeah play &Bass again on SNES, King 2 is a bastard but all the prior stages are really well-made and the OST is excellent.

>>1122882 >>1122907 The GC version of the Anniversary Collection had a fucked up MM7 port, the audio was completely ruined. The Proto Man Whistle made my CRT's speakers groan in pain. >>1122956 That's a shame
>>1122611 The lastest release in that GitGud adds back the BN chips. I didn't know what it changed until I looked in my chip folder.

>>1125142 Being able to post .Webms with sound and more than 4Mbs of size, it's amazing.
>>1123773 The gap between Megaman 10 and 11 is only slightly longer than the gap between Megaman 11 and now.
>>1117046 Dam shame they nerfed stages 4 onwards, gotta throw fucking seeeeeds.
>>1125469 It could be MP4 too but you have to worry about breaking the 32MB limit for these longer videos. You could also split 25-25 just fine.
>>1125469 Man, as a longtime poster here that never fails to make me smile whenever somebody finds out about that. >>1125537 Wait 'til you find out about SVT-AV1-PSY and how much you can pack into that size limit.
>>1125469 >>1125142 does it support Mp4 too?, also nice capture card, i assume its taken from real console judgin by the pillarboxing.
>>1126764 Yes, you can either mux a video into the container if it has a Opus audio stream or encode the audio with AAC, although webm following in the matroska model is more universal. Also, with Avi/Vaporsynth scripts the pillars can be cropped out for a perfect video frame (I use Staxrip). Heck if I put my mind to it I could probably encode the Megaman.EXE anime episode by episode and upload it onto here with hardsubs.

>>1128690 I wouldn't hold my breath of them making one any time soon. You're more likely to get a fangame at this point. Capcom is likely just done with Megaman as a whole since they want ALL THE PROFIT RIGHT NOW rather than small investment small profit with small effort that the Megaman games have, let alone one starring a secondary character.

>>1128955 It's sad that the MegaMan gacha was a complete failure, even though everyone has been asking for decades for a Battle Network EXE type smartphone game where you can raise your own Navi but nooooooo it had to be a by the numbers platformer based on X cause that's the most marketable one and crammed with the most mind numbing grinding I've ever had to endure for a gacha.

Haven't had a chance to try out Inti's newest metroidvania yet, how was it?
>>1134291 Just ok. The maids play fine but the map is pretty barebones.
>>1134291 I think it's pretty fun, but it's got several sticking points. Unlike most metroidvanias, you unlock navigational tools from leveling up. Also unlike most metroidvanias, in order to level up, you have to use up a key item (bones) at your home base, which necessitates returning there. You can do that at any save point you find, but the real problem is getting back to where you were. There are boatgirls who let you fast travel between points where you've found them, but they tend to be in some inconvenient spots. The subweapon system is fun and can get absurdly OP, but you'll end up with a lot of trash items and getting rid of them to make inventory space can be a pain because you have to do it 1 at a time. The actual gameplay itself is solid and fun, though. Inti is good at the actual platforming part of their action platformers imo. Shotgun jumping is satisfying and fun, and the whip girl can just do tons of damage by just staggering and doing the first hit of her combo again and again and again. I think the game is kind of unfinished. There's an arena area with nothing to do in it but visit a vendor. Last I played the online multiplayer hadn't even been implemented yet, and the npc that shows up in your base has all of its options greyed out.
It's been a while since I last touched this game so I'm going to replay ZX Prequel. I have two versions in my harddrive 1.1.14 and 1.1.5. I hope that there isn't any special meaning about why I have two versions in my harddrive.
>>1103448 Really, you can see the cracks start to form even with Wily Castle 1. Not as bad as the rest of the Castle stages, but definitely already a step down from the Robot Master stages.
>>1103448 >>1134413 I'm probably the odd man out about this but I wouldn't mind a MM clone that's basically all castle stages. As long as it avoids the more autistic and tricky stuff.
>>1134631 I think the genesis wily wars kinda teased that idea. After you beat the 3 megaman games on it, you get an extra mode where you can pick any 8 weapons from the games and then go through some new castle stages to fight the megaman killer bosses from the gameboy games I think.
>>1134650 Mostly correct, except the bosses in Wily Tower are originals.
>>1134631 >>1134650 Yeah, Wily Tower is that idea put in pratice. I think there's even a demake in NES style made in the Megamix engine for that one.
>>1134631 The gameboy games often have the second half of robot masters take place in the castle, though that's just an aesthetic as it's otherwise still the normal Mega Man gameplay loop.

>>1137832 It'll never be as bad as 7

>>1137868 >>1137869 they at least gave me a slide in MM9 goddamn.
I like 7 capsule

>>1129277 >even though everyone has been asking for decades for a Battle Network EXE type smartphone game where you can raise your own Navi but nooooooo it had to be a by the numbers platformer based on X cause that's the most marketable one I think it was because it was made from the leftovers of that canceled MMO Rockman Online from just before the Total Mega Man Death (including Legends 3 and Mega Man Universe the MM Maker) caused by Inafune quitting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QZGXr02h04&list=PLZ7cQMwMCd-taAJYYgOPyFTh8PV2r4A5S&index=11
>>1144547 >>1144557 >>1144569 does >skip saturday >finish last week's china hack on sunday >move in to /vg/ if shit isn't fixed by next friday sound good
>>1144623 There's a new X1 randomizer in development that I've been interested in. Don't think any of the absent players would be too upset over missing that, since we've hosted X1 randos a thousand times already (and this one is probably worse than the old one in its current state). I'll take Saturday for that if there's no objections. The rest sounds fine.
>>1144623 >move in to /vg/ if shit isn't fixed by next friday Yeah, as long as stay here it might be better to settle for a thread over there.
Megaman11 is 7 years old already. Surely Capcom has got a Switch2 game lined up, right? Right?
>>1144758 Look forward to Mega Man X DiVE Offline (Switch 2 Edition)
>>1137524 Sonia easily.
>>1142694 it's also the title track of rockman YJ which is another chinkhack that takes all its soundtrack from other hacks
>>1144864 RiCO no longer has any power over me
>>1144758 Any semblance of the Capcom who would make a proper new Mega Man is dead. RE8 made sure of that.

From the drawthread
>>1144623 I would be okay with that >>1144758 >Surely Capcom has got a Switch2 game lined up, right? Right? When watching the direct I joked to myself that Capcom would make a switch 2 version of 11 so they could use it as an excuse to not make a new entry for another 8 years
>>1153528 Fittinv
>>1144623 Sorry it took a while to find the bunker but i guess that should be it then, if ""we"" are still alive by next fri should the phone saga keep going or infinite filler until normalchin revives in anycase i'll just look at the schedule rentry for further news Also yt title should be updated if you want
>>1153528 Now I need to see him get his back broken by Zero.
well, looks like there is a /vg/ thread and of fucking course the fucking faggot had to axe half of it because god forbid >we aren't wading in that shit even here

memes aside, lets be honest, did you liked that back in the days of the NES and SNES megaman games keep coming almost yearly? Also i do agree the series feel off during the 16/32bit era except for the first 2 megaman X titles.
>>1161967 I wasn't alive back then
>1 vidya board, 2 general boards, 3 flavors of /mmg/+/inti/ threads across them I suppose I'll be posting the telemelt here since that's where the last one went
Get ready for the apeX of 2D action! It's time to check out Ver.009 of Route MatriX Randomizer! >Room https://telemelt.com/?key=6526be743e1d4ce6957d71df8db2738e If you're not a /mmg/+/inti/ refugee, the Settings button at the bottom-right will explain what all this is. >Controls Y - Shot B - Jump A - Dash Weapon Select - L/R X2-style walljumps and X4-style dashjumps have been toggled on, as this randomizer allows. Starting in 10 minutes.
>>1166706 From what I understand gacha generals all went to /gacha/ meanwhile this /v/ is kinda both the old /v/ and the old /vg/ at the same time. The current /vg/ traffic is basically just /dng/.
>>1166806 do we want this streamed/recorded
>>1166848 So you're saying we can have a fourth thread in /gacha/
>>1166903 I don't know if this is interesting enough to stream, but go ahead if you want to
>>1166906 Time to create /dive/! (mainland China only)
>damage numbers Talking about daibu.....
Feels really fucking weird to get told to go to /v/ from /vg/.
I already forgot this started us with a subtank
>>1166926 I'll just record in case something funny like hyperpeng happens then
b-but I can still host KH, I didn't know we were hiding here...
Is it really just two stages
>>1167345 too late, now play the sabe jape
>>1167345 Surely as MM profesionals, the randomizer can be cleared in 45minutes as the pregame
so what is this anyway
>>1167345 Let's restart melts officially next week now that we know that everyone is here.
>>1167395 X1 rando but sabe'd

Megaman X at its worst is better than Classic Megaman at its best. X completely shits on the classic series and should've been what the series was about from the start. Alia is best girl.
>>1168511 No wonder they had to lock away peng until the very end
Thank you for eX[/doom]periencing Route Matri[doom]X Randomizer Pretty different feel from tokyoscarab one, not nearly as chaotic. I wonder if they can be combined.
>>1168601 wtf you can't double doom
>>1168601 the real question is can it be combined with hardtype
>>1168601 Hatless ending achieved
>>1168601 fun piece of shit at the start and then got easy
>>1168601 Neat experience
>>1168601 I wish this was possible with X3. The game has so many upgrades that it can become a pseudo-metroidvania
>>1118946 it was the first megaman game I could beat
>>1118946 I'd love to see what a ROM hack that just removes the Doc Robot stages looks like, to see what that does for the flow of the game from both a newcomer and veteran perspective (or if I wanted to be sophisticated, expand the Wily stages a bit and throw the Doc Robot bosses in as part of them, like the MM1/MMX1 rematches). Those stages were blatant filler.
>>1177379 Better flow but 3's fortress is pretty underwhelming, so it'll have a different issue instead >if I wanted to be sophisticated, expand the Wily stages a bit and throw the Doc Robot bosses in as part of them, like the MM1/MMX1 rematches X1 fortress would be my route if I had it my way, having some original elements and remixed stage bits but with doc robot instead

Why yes, why would a chinese hack have secrets
>>1180157 That reminds me, you can host streams right here. Might be worth looking into if we're sticking around: >>1081753
>>1180323 isn't the primary function of >our streams archival
I suppose needleman isn't weak to himself but rather that the triple needle works like blademan's weapon in 10
>>1180392 That and because of the 8-player limit in telemelt rooms because there's clearly so much interest in chinese MM3 and all >>1180446 If it's like default MM3 they all have secondary weaknesses to their own weapons
I've been playing all the mega man games and am currently up to 5. Gravity man is bullshit. I somehow managed to beat him once, but now I'm on the level where you have to refight all the bosses, and I cannot manage to kill him. I try to use the star power, but his bullets end up hitting the shield using most of my bar for that ability. He's probably my most hated boss so far
>>1180516 You have to use the barrier when he's about to switch gravity so that you do contact damage by staying close to him when that happens.
>>1180516 Just focus on dodging and nail him when he flips gravity. Use the slide if you've gotta cover a lot of ground quickly.
>>1180516 >I try to use the star power he's easier with just buster
45minutebros...
>>1180516 Isn't Gravity Man a meme? like, you can just use your shiny charge buster to hit him when he's flipping the gravity and he does that before being right next to him so his bullets rarely hit me
>>1180580 >>1180587 >>1180630 Thanks guys, managed to beat him. >>1180929 Yeah, I'm just retarded and didn't realize it was so easy to hit him with the mega buster. I thought the star power was needed to hit him
thanks for playing the least chinese china castle so far pretty good hack besides certain parts do these things even have available concept art

>>1181208 I hope no other chink dev is obsessed with these platforms.
>>1181208 On one hand, it wasn't the usual Chinese romhack fortress. On the other hand, the hacker put as much effort into the fortress as the original MM3 devs did. The rest of that romhack was pretty good though. It's funny how Spark Shock still ended up as the most useless weapon, despite being buffed so much.
>>1181236 surely this gemini shotgun will be a staple in future chinkhacks just like anti gravity weapons, stolen soundtrack and THAT level

>>1197488 >Or is it the one with the game engine saveroom bug, i can't remember well I don't know any technical details, I'm afraid. The first area of the game got glitched after my first visit and the tiles won't show the sprites but otherwise every other area of the game seems to play normally.
