/Neverwinter Nights/ Anonymous 04/18/2025 (Fri) 03:21:34 Id: 4f4b92 No. 1125174
New patch dropped for BG3 that broke all mods and saves so I am revisiting this classic. Halfway through the episode 1 prison section using a dex rogue build, it's been so long bros. Post favorite builds, modules, or anything relevant to NWN.
>>1125174 Some of the premium modules are pretty neat. I think NWN is awfully ugly but the 3.5 systems are good and some of the themes in those stories are really cool. My favourite is the one where Mephistopheles shows up.
>>1125246 It's pretty bleak graphically during the prologue and episode 1 until you get outside of the city, then it's not so bad and works pretty good for being a virtual DnD graphics engine from around the time Israel attacked NYC and took down the WTC
>>1125292 My main issue is not the models themselves but the UI and all the other small things like that. The visuals are whatever. I do hate that some effects are terribly optimized and make a modern gaming pc run at 30 fps. As for the main story, I never liked it too much. Collecting magical creatures is boring and the lizard plot gets really close to being interesting but falls flat. >works pretty good for being a virtual DnD graphics engine from around the time Israel attacked NYC and took down the WTC I think the Infinity Engine games and PST are better but the 3.5 ruleset is superior. Now that we're talking about NWN, I never got around to playing NWN2. I wonder if it's any good.
>>1125348 NWN2 was great, but it was clunky as hell at release and had high system requirement. It was when bioware and obsidian were starting their prime.
NWN has a small and dedicated fanbase that have modded and manipulated and masturbated every DnD module in existence. It's more autistic than skyrim coomers.
There was a good Keep on the Borderlands module I played a while back, it seemed slightly broken but was good fun. I also played on some persistent world server that was themed around Dark Souls and had each of the areas from the 3 games and it was just an EverQuest grinding hell, but cool nonetheless.
>>1125348 NWN2 is weirdly sluggish to respond to inputs. graphics aged very poorly and the story takes a long time to get going while being too vanilla. Terrible performance at launch and awful tools for custom module creation never allowed it to bloom as much with user content, so it stayed obscured. Expansions are great on their own, overall worth checking out.
>favourite build Paladin/Cleric/Bard where you go Divine Might + Divine Shield with the epic feats for it. Battle Bard with the defensive spells of a Wizard, 16BAB, ungodly AC, and obnoxious dmg output. >favourite module A Dance with Rogues. Best city adventure I've ever played.
>>1125174 I finally played the Kingmaker module after eons of avoiding it like the plague since >paid DLC in 2000 fucking 3. It was alright and stupid short. I'm glad that I avoided the rakshasa girl nakama back then otherwise my teenage years would have been ruined. I really liked her and she was suprisingly a bro.
Played it like 6 months ago and despised the tutorial area
>>1130509 It's stopped me from replaying NWN a few times it's absolutely horrible.
>>1125348 > I wonder if it's any good. I replayed NWN1 countless times. I couldn't finish NWN2 even once. Not sure why, it just never clicked for some reason.
>>1131388 Missing out, Mask of the Betrayer is one of the best RPG campaigns ever made.
Best modules?
>>1136391 I like the swordflight series but it's pretty brutal. Designed to keep you reloading saves.
If anyone hasn't seen it yet: Neverwinter Nights 2 Enhanced Edition spotted on SteamDB https://steamdb.info/app/2738630/depots/ EULA credits Aspyr https://store.steampowered.com//eula/2738630_eula_0 These have literally been there for weeks and Beamdog has officially commented on it to confirm they're not involved.
>>1158949 Forgot ask: >will Obsidian still get royalties? >will they fix the camera? >will they add turn based support for single player? >what character creation things (class, feat etc.) do you expect they'll add? >how will they fuck it up?
>>1159109 I don't think anyone can tell if obsidian will get anything out of this. From what I remember, nwn2 was a cluster fuck of legal agreements and licensing. I'm hoping for a camera fix since it was a very common complaint. Personally never had a problem with it, though. Other than that I doubt they'll add much of anything. WotC doesn't seem to like shilling anything that isn't their latest trashheap.
>>1158949 I'd be excited if it wasn't aspyr. How does this dogshit studio still get work?
NWN2 campaign was pretty crappy. It had a FEW mods, but not many. Its rep rides on the Mask of the Betrayer xpac. It could be okay for a playthrough for old times sake, or if you never did MotB, but I wouldn't hold high hopes for anything besides just listing the current GOG Complete Edition up for sale on Steam.
>>1158949 I miss my /crpg/ general
>>1158949 I went and bought current GoG version just in case they remove it when enhanced edition is out. Getting remasters is such a gamble, man.
The module maker was pretty cool. Spent more time fucking around with that than I did the main game. I had expected a quasi-sequel to BG2, following the same design. What we got instead was the most half-assed dogshit I ever paid $60 dollars for: "now that you've graduated from HERO SCHOOL, go fetch ye four macguffins from four dungeons, each in the four cardinal directions." In hindsight, the game I was looking for was KotOR.
>>1170596 The story I heard was bioware's original plans were scrapped by WotC. I think bio wanted to kill Nasher and there was a potential patent issue with the madness system.
