Games with the "Soldier of Fortune" spirit Anonymous 04/19/2025 (Sat) 11:17:59 Id: c1e91a No. 1145712
It's gonna be a specific thread, but bear with me. Basically, I'm looking for more games with the whole "mercenaries doing mercenary things" aesthetic, with people dropping into areas of conflict for a huge paycheck, and perhaps to end in the cover of the Soldier of Fortune magazine (which also had a video game that I liked a lot). Recently, I decided to play Jagged Alliance 2 for the first time. While I'm still learning the game's mechanics, I'm having fun with it, controlling a bunch of guns for hire with distinct personalities and skills, shooting nigs and be paid in handsomely for it. There were also other action games like Mercenaries, where you could buy airstrikes to bomb well guarded areas. I basically just want games where the setting is a bit like an action flick about poeple who made warfare their job.
picrel is a great one if you haven't tried it.
>>1145784 It looked better in co-op than in solo. Does it still hold up alone?
>>1145839 i played it solo, would definitely be more fun with someone else but it's still really fun solo. the partner AI isn't completely retarded but it's hard to strategize with it for flanking/supressive fire. worth playing alone if you've never played it before though for sure.
7.62 and all it's connected games are pretty rad. Basically jagged alliance with super autistic bullet trajectories in a semi turn based pause combat system

>>1145712 I would not class Mercenaries as a game that belongs in this specific area of games. This is how i see this area of games.
>>1145839 >>1145908 Give your partner the big guns to draw aggro while you sneak around headshoting with a silencer.

This is me trying to meet your request a little more closely. I'd also might suggest looking into the new Commandos game or a polish game called War Mongrels. They both have mixed reception on the other hand.
And obviously Ghost Recon Wildlands and Breakpoint which should be close enough too.
>>1145712 mercenaries is so fucking good
>>1145927 I feel like I should play Jagged Alliance 2 before 7.62 Getting a grip with 7.62 controls and mechanics is quite a a task. I should really read a guide, or the manual

>>1145712 Brigador Mech Warrior 5: Mercenaries (as well as any other Mech Warrior game that has the word Mercenaries in it)
>>1145712 Mercenaries was the shit, its a real shame the PC port never happened. I would love to play it without all the forced fog from hardware limitations.
>>1157895 Finally revisited the game a month ago or so. I actually liked the forced fog, makes it feel like it's a genuine bleak battlefield out there. I quite liked playing as Mui utilizing stealth as much as humanly possible in this game.
This is my daily prayer that someone can take up 7.62's engine or core mechanics and port them into a game that's more moddable, more stable and slightly more accessible and doesn't crash every 30 minutes. >just play hard life I tried. It still crashes. I reinstalled, I changed hardware, it's just cursed for me which sucks because the game fucks hard.
>>1158626 Try silent storm
