There are a lot of stardew valley/cozy life clones out there, why isn't there a sims clone? It can have all the non-pg stuff in it plus women will buy it in droves. Easy money
I've never actually understood why not. My best guess is because The Sims has already cornered the market (and possibly threatened legal action on companies that did try to compete). There are a ton of civ/base sims that let you customize and focus on individual people and characters but that's not exactly the same thing.
It's because if they named it OpenSim(s) no one would find it on Google
>>3193 So name it something different, duh.
For awhile, it was probably because of the way Sims cornered the market. It's one of the top 10 best-selling video game franchises, on top of being deeply nostalgic for many people. No well-run company would think it profitable to compete against it. But these times are changing. Many are disappointed with The Sims 4, including long-time fans. The ridiculous price for all the add on packs only makes people more disgusted with the franchise. And I'm sure many fans raised an eyebrow in reaction to the newest one where polyamory was officially added along with other weird romantic relationship mechanics. I remember seeing some indie Sims clones somewhere, but the biggest competition comes from Inzoi, which is clearly challenging The Sims, and is developed by Krafton, the people behind PUBG. It does include the Body Type 1 and 2 propaganda, but since the studio is South Korean, there may be a chance that there isn't much nonsense besides that. We'll just have to see. Either way it's bound to be interesting to see how things pan out.
>>4586 The Sims 4 could have been great if it wasn't based off the foundation of a scrapped social web browser game. Sims 4 has less features than 3, I can't imagine why anybody would play it. Anyway, the issue I've seen with Inzoi is its realistic art style and how the looks like it runs very poorly. "The Sims, but real" doesn't sound like a great combo.
>>4587 There's no doubt that a huge part of what makes The Sims work is the somewhat cartoonish art direction. But I do think a realistic looking life simulation game can work. It's just that the development team has to go all in on good looking textures, lighting, modeling, everything to do with graphics. Without the dramatic expressions and cartoony effects, this is what will draw the players in and impress them. And it seems like the people behind Inzoi know this, but that's where we run into the issue of the game's performance with all these 3D realistic models. One look at the trailers and you think "how can any computer run that?" Maybe some of the issues will be handled before release.
