>all these shitty takes on Eva
I'm home, wouldn't be a proper imageboard without arguments about Evangelion continuing almost 30 fucking years past when it came out.
Its impressive how pretty much the entire internet becomes retarded when Eva comes up.
As a homage to Evangelion, I'll post pics including certain overlooked (but actually very important) characters when it comes to these discussions and let the reader see if they can figure out who the most important ones are for understanding Evangelion's positive (as opposed to its negative) messaging.
>End of Evangelion
Anyone who unironically defends this (besides the ending) is retarded.
I didn't know jackshit before I went into this movie besides watching the original show, and I could
immediately tell something was seriously wrong, like someone completely different had made it. It was only the last 10% that felt like it was actually made by Anno, and lo and behold, it was his shit protege Tsurumaki who fucked it up. EoE was a fucking dumpster fire besides its actual ending.
The storytelling, themes, plot developments and character behavior in EoE was almost completely arbitrary bullshit. It was basically steering the plot into a meaningless death spiral until Anno made his final mark on what he wanted Evangelion to be:
A tragic, cautionary tale with some truthful messaging sprinkled throughout, but ultimately not a nihilistic one or a hopeless one.
>Rebuilds
Haven't watched 'em yet so I have no real opinion on them besides skepticism since they were made so far after the original series that there is automatically a lot of distance between them and the OG creation. I heard they were basically Anno trying to make NGE into something like TTGL (but worse ofc), but I'll come to that conclusion when I eventually watch 'em.

>and was about how people could never truly understand each other.
Only partially, and that wasn't its ultimate message, it was a commentary on it.

To be fair, the "Eva audience" is shit I've found.
Anno is (or was, dunno how he is nowadays) actually intelligent, in spite of some people trying to portray him as 2deep4u. Ironically, its the pretentious part of the audience that hurts people's willingness to understand Evangelion.
Anno laid several "intelligence traps" in Evangelion. This is to catch the people who think they're too smart for they're own good. Things that like to stimulate and whet a reasonably intelligent (and especially pretentious) person's appetite, things that people like art/film critics, theorists, redditors, certain types of imageboard users, and current-year leftist video essayists salivate over. However, the true point of what he was doing with the use of the trap escapes them. They take the trap at face value as "wow this is evidence this is a deep show" rather than understanding what he was
actually trying to say.
The science and scientific theories in Evangelion is a strong example of this. Anno put in serious effort into the science background of Evangelion, but he explicitly
derides and condemns science's inability to understand the human condition. (think people who cream over "SOYENCE" as the type of people he was basically mocking with this shit).

Haven't watched the Rebuilds yet, but
>I guess Anno thought those retarded otakus and gaijin weebs wouldn't get it unless he screamed it at his face.
Yes, that's true it seems.
I haven't seen the vast majority of people who publicly talk about it actually understand Evangelion, its fucking embarrassing.
There are a
lot of people who think Evangelion is completely open to interpretation when that's not true. Just because he was somewhat cryptic or hidden in some of its messaging doesn't mean you can make Evangelion about whatever you want it to be.
Evangelion has several core messages in it. Ironically, one of the messages in it is that you have to find and uncover the truth for yourself in a world of lies.

>that screencap
>all that assumption about the angels
>taking End of Eva as evidence of anything
Man people are dense.

Shinji isn't the narrator of Eva. Afaik there is no narrator in Eva.
The parts where Shinji isn't in the story actually help explain what's actually going on in the world of Evangelion, so you're technically right there, but that's because Shinji is living in a world of lies and he doesn't know how to escape it or make sense of it.

>abusive absentee father
Anon, that's a massive understatement. Gendo is literally the villain of Evangelion.
>the end literally spells out that everything you see is face value, it's why Shinji chokes Asuka, to make sure it's the real thing and not a figment of another one of his mental breakdowns/LCL induced introspections.
Those weren't mental breakdowns. Those were the end results of Gendo's machinations and his plan coming to fruition to create a collective human consciousness.

Taking Anno's words about Evangelion at face value is retarded.
Literally he filled his work full of obfuscation and lies on purpose to make a point about how you should find the truth yourself (and one of those channels of lies was the horrible mass media in the Evangelion world), why the fuck would you expect him to give you the answers
through a mass media channel like fucking journalists?
Though the irony is that people are extremely retarded and seem to be incapable of finding the
actual truth for themselves and instead invent games to play for themselves to avoid facing it, or just focus purely on the shallow aspects of Evangelion (though to be fair, they're also well-made so I can't blame that crowd completely for it).
