I'm afraid to make a Luanti thread because the game is much better than Minecraft. It's the definitive block building video game. (popularity is not a measure of quality). I'm afraid to make a thread and advertise it's existence for fear of it becoming too popular (normalfags ruin everything). I'm going to make 1 thread about it (per imageboard) and that's it because the userbase is a bit TOO small for my taste and this game could use a bit more players. >How is Luanti better than Minecraft -it is a self contained and simple application. The audio always works, the game always runs reliably. -simple and intuitive Linux and Windows support -it is a convenient platform for mods. This is a big deal. Mods are a 1 click install. There's been times where I didn't like something about the base game so I immediately went and downloaded a mod and the problem was fixed in 5 minutes. -Open source for maximum customizability -every aspect of this game is free as in costs no money. -no corporate faggotry overlordom from micro$oft -Online play is simple and intuitive

Thoughts on Veloren? It's one of those voxel based Minecrafty games, but looks a million times more ambitious than Minecraft. It looks like what Hytale was planning to be before they rebooted it and it turned to vaporware. It looks more like "3D Terraria" than "better Minecraft". In fact, it sounds like it's aiming for what Minecraft originally set out to be - a Dwarf Fortress style voxel game. A quote from a dev. >From Dwarf Fortress, we'll be borrowing emergent gameplay, procedural systems and world simulation. Veloren simulates the entire world in realtime (unlike most voxel games) and this will allow us to simulate complex systems like trade, resources, civilisations, war, migration, natural disasters, etc. In the future, you'll be able to explore and experiment with the complexity of this world, discover its secrets, and interact with people and creatures that live in it. It's entirely open source and you can actually play it right now, but it's only at version 0.17. >>1055818 first I'm hearing of it, it looks pretty identical to cubeworld, but if it's open source I hope to see it actually go somewhere instead of evaporate like so many of these projects one thing that annoys me is that so many of these 'voxel engine games' either try to add way too much detail with smaller cubes, or stick to the very limited alpha minecraft aesthetic, like they're afraid to take a middle ground, they could keep the world geometry simple cubes, but why stick with blocky models for players and mobs? it's so limiting for kinematics, like movement animation, attacking/blocking, etc

Been playing it for a while. Have amassed over 150 mods with slight tweaks. I need to learn Lua so i can mesh the mods together in better ways and to fix all the broken piece of shit WIP mods i like. Why is this game's performance such absolute ass if you play longer than 20 minutes? I start out over 120fps, but it quickly creeps below 60 and after an hour it can drop as low as 20. It happens even if I go underground, exit the game, re-open it, and spend a while branch-mining.
I never played Minecraft. It varies, and there are a bunch of variables. Debugging it is probably a matter of resetting your config to defaults and disabling whatever mods except the primary.

>>1081539 In VoxeLibre, bedrock begins at roughly -55. Diamonds are down below -40 or so. I've never bothered trying to go all the way up because terrain doesn't generate above roughly 150… I think. As for the super low numbers, that's where the Nether is. It's not a separately generated realm; you just teleport through a nether gate all the way down there. There's bedrock above (so you can't fly up to the real world), and if you break through either in creative, you start taking auto-damage if you fly up too far.

Also you should be really careful about building over lava in general. Fire enchantments can help you survive in the Nether.

>>1081560 Distance warping is still in place. Honestly not sure how it works, given that the nether isn't a separate world. The gate at my base spits me out at -28972, so that's about how far down it is. I'd say it's roughly… 200 blocks up or down from that depth before you hit the bedrock borders for the nether. Not sure why the distance between needs to be so great when there's nothing but empty space and a kill-field between them anyway.
>Luanti It's always going to be Minetest to me. I recommend Voxelgarden for a "game" to play if you like it simple. Enable sneak jump and add some mods that work with the game you decided to play, like Magma Conduits. Some mods have configuration variables you can adjust as well in a config file. It helps a lot to know how to tweak or fix some bugs in a mod because this is kind of like going to a junkyard and pulling things out. If you want a fully ready premade game there are some, but generally the more complex the concept the better it is to be ready to fix or adjust things. Spawning minerals is really game/mod dependent. You can build sneak ladders if you re-enable the sneak jumping with a mod, probably the best physics bug in Minetest. No longer a bug really but a re-implementation you can toggle on from what I remember. >>1081473 Never happened to me pretty much ever except on really poorly performing mods. Often relates to map generation stuff done in Lua done the wrong way or an old way. Something is usually really wrong with some mod or function for that to be happening.

It sticks to the original /x/ idea of endless strange environments. I remember when it was only at a few thousand downloads, it's over 150k now. Cool to see it take off. There's no "game" to it, but that's not the point of a project like that, is it? Some of the later levels are really surreal, I like the nightmarish jungle of concrete.

I made a mod for Luanti, nothing much because I am not that good in Lua scripting yet, I borrowed a lot of code from other mods. I got only 2 firearms, 4 objects, a water mineralizer, a salt maker, crafting table and a stone transmutation table. I have yet to update to newer Luanti version I am on 5.8.0 right now so I can't take advance of the newer model format yet. And I just made this mod to make some random shit, I have no idea what kind of direction I should go for.

aside from minetest luanti needing a drastic graphics overhaul (even for programmer art the assets are horrendous everywhere) and a better looking UI, there's something about movement that is just so god damn choppy and it annoys me every time, even when minecraft movement was very basic it still was smooth >>1081926 I tried the infinite ikea one, it was neat but basically nothing to do although you could break some furniture and boxes and place them as barricades, probably for a future update they had the scp ikea workers planned

Everything in Luanti is done through Lua scripting, right? Do you think the engine should create a proper API for things like mobs? So many games have really janky mechanics due to a shaky foundation of user-made script implementations.
