Ninja Gaiden 4 by Platinum Games and Team Ninja Anonymous 01/23/2025 (Thu) 18:20:17 Id: 203eed No. 1064333
Massive announcement at the Xbox direct just now with Ninja Gaiden 4 being announced by Platinum Games and Team Ninja. The information we have is fairly limited and all we really know is that the Dark Dragon is fucking things up again and that there's a new Ninja known as Raven. I was just playing through Sigma myself so this is huge news for me. Are you guys also looking forward to this one? Or do you expect it to be more like Ninja Gaiden 3. https://youtu.be/IzLhxMlkcrg
>>1072616 it's also weird how Alma 1 is harder than Alma 2 Alma two is legit "wait for her to land and joust her until she gets hit", and aside from her grab, all her attacks are incredibly easy to dodge, even easier than on the first fight because the arena is bigger.
>>1072616 In Chapter 1 there is that room with the Ninja's that jump out of the walls right before the first save point, it'll take some time, but you can grind up to 99999 Essence if you wanted. Doing so will likely have you miss out on Master Ninja rank, but if you're good enough for a chapter 1 MN Rank you would need to rely on grinding Essence anyway.
I recently completed a full playthough of NG 2004, since I was curious how the first release compared to NG Black, so I have list of some differences I found interesting. As shown here >>1070132 Murai has a small tutorial for you in Chapter 2. >The Shinobi Shozoku mask in the 2004 version is Purple, this is actually Inconsistent compared to the FMV cutscenes where the mask is Black, This was fixed in NG Black. >Ayane does not appear in Chapter 2, so there is no foreshadowing the fight with Doku >The Bow instead just appears on the ground at the exit of this Building >Ayane does not throw a Kunai message at the flyer telling you to go to Muramasa's shop for a "Ticket to the Party", this was added in NG Black to guide players better >The safe requires you to actively press the correct Combination, instead of just twisting it
>The Zombies are a much greater threat in NG 2004, because you can't charge UT's without Essence. It makes them more menacing, and the upgrade to lv3 Dragon Sword very satisfying. >The Guillotine Throw use to just be a Y input instead of X+A, this was likely changed in NG Black to make GT and Flying Swallow more deliberate choices for the player. > I noticed the reason mechanical drone enemies do not drop essence is because they don't have souls, this was actually changed in NG Sigma. > Kitetsu can not be Leveled up, and it drains the players health/soul when in use. >The Armlets of Tranquility is not in NG Black/Sigma's campaign, this armlet can cancel out the Health Drain of the Kitetsu, making it more viable.

>Ayane does not throw a Kunai message recommending the player to use the Flail to deal with Ghost Fish. >Ayane's little cutscene, right before Ryu enters the final tower area, is not in NG2004. >Collecting all 50 Golden Scarabs gets you part of Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, instead of the Arcade game like in NG Black. >You actually need to find NG2 and NG3 SNES Separately which you can see how here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Jcgc44jDoY >The fight with the Vigoor Emperor does not tell you that Blocking will move the Platform up and down, that instruction was added in NG Black.

After 13 years. My sick curiosity finally got the better of me. I played Vanilla Ninja Gaiden 3. At the very least, I emulated the game with RPCS3 and didn't actually pay money for it. I make no exaggeration when I say this is one of the worst video game products I've ever seen in my life. Anyone who takes any issue with Razors Edge? You have no idea just how good you have it with that game, that is an actual video game. Sure, there are worse things out there than NG3 on an objective level, but there is typically an Explanation of some kind a reason they exist in the manner they do. Sonic 06 had its dev team cut in half twice, on top of that had its production rushed. Super Man 64 had its production straight up sabotaged, so it didn't even get the chance to be a better game. Some games don't get the Resources they need to reach greater potential, other games are just scams or cash grabs and aren't worth even being given a second thought. But Ninja Gaiden 3? This game was not a mistake, everything that went into making this was purposeful, and Calculated. They genuinely thought that making this game the way it is, was the right move. This game shows a complete and utter lack of any respect for its audience. NG3 commits the worst gaming sin possible, it's not bad, it's boring. Every single fight in this game is the same thing, you combo and kill some enemies, it doesn't matter how as it Barely matters what you do, the game practically plays itself, that is at least until it starts “Literally” playing itself. You kill enemies until your arm glows, you hold Y to UT and automatically kill a set number of enemies regardless of their Position, OR you kill enemies until you have a full meter, and you use Ninpo to kill a bunch of enemies automatically. Want to save your Ninpo for a Specific part of a level? You can't. It drains after every encounter, sometimes it drains in the middle of an encounter for no reason other than they don't want you to have full Ninpo at that point. You are not allowed to formulate Tactics. So If you don't want to waste anything, you have to use Ninpo or a UT Immediately every time you get a chance, the Alternative is continuing to partake in the boring combat. This game also has no progression system, so there is no benefit to unnecessary combat, it's just there to waste your time. The story of NG3 is the least of its problems, at least when the cutscenes are going on you get to not play this game. The most fun part of playing NG3 is realizing the way forward isn't blocked, and I could just run away from a fight. You want to know what the best aspects of NG3 that aren't in Razors Edge I could come up with, I've got a few points. >The opening shot of the game is actual genuinely good, as it starts though the eyes of Theodore, undoing the Grip of Murder on Ryu. With the context of how the story goes, that actually nice in terms of Narrative. >The first time you ever use Ninpo, Art of the True Inferno, the one where Ryu turns into a Dragon and eats people, The rest of the enemies in that encounter just give up Immediately, that's just funny and realistic. >The game has the Decency to give you bullet time every time you fire the bow, so at least dealing with airborne and ranged enemies isn't more annoying than it has to be. >There is a pitch black cave on day 3 gets lit up by the Bioluminescent blood of the bug enemies. Those bugs are the only enemy in the game where killing them benefits the player. >The lack of a health bars during the bosses really help highlight just how Hilariously stupid the T-Rex boss actually is. And that's it, that's all I've got in terms of Positives. Ninja Gaiden 3 gives no Agency to the player, they are not allowed to make any meaningful decisions, you have to follow the exact path the developers set for you. This game was intended to Appeal to a western Audience, and if this is what they thought the west would eat up? It's insulting to our Intelligence. The kind of people who could be entertained by this game are the kind of people who'd be entertained by linearly anything with flashing effects. This game is the Embodiment of everything wrong with the 7th generation of consoles. Taking a well respected franchise, and reducing everything that made it Unique and enjoyable in a fruitless effort to appeal to an audience that doesn't exist.

>>1073008 >>1073009 >>1073010 Nice going anon, I'm saving this on a text file. >>1073206 >This game is the Embodiment of everything wrong with the 7th generation of consoles Pretty much, I have been really vocal for years about Doos Sex and how it's a disservice to the original, but you know what? Considering the consoles it was on and the amount of depth it has compared to everything else on the market at the time, it has actually grown gracefully. It's a goddamned miracle it came out as good as it did considering T4ief came out and was such a disaster that it's Remember Me tier.

>>1073334 I never considered the connection between the Wolverine game and NG3, that's pretty interesting and explains a lot. Coincidentally, I saw this list of Itagaki's top 5 games durring 2005, and seeing him call Ocarina of time a Masterpiece, made me take another look at NG1, and I've just been seeing a ton of Connections between NG1 and Ocarina of Time. I've started making a list and I've found like 60 points of Comparison between the two games. Itagaki was just able to make NG1 Unique enough that it wasn't so obvious what his Inspiration was until you see him almost say it himself here.

>>1073206 Be glad you didn't pay any money for it. I paid for the collector's edition & it still haunts me.

>>1073334 Thinking about it all, it seems like this was the full picture of how NG3 came about. Without Itagaki they brought back the NES Ninja Gaiden writer Hideo Yoshizawa for the story of NG3, as an attempt to seem like NG3 had some Legitimacy as a true NG game, but the NES NG games really aren't the same style as Itagaki's NG they're much more focused on Drama, and Ryu is much more emotional. 3D Ryu wasn't that character so he anymore so he seems out of character when taken back to that NES writting. In their attempt to appeal to the western market they looked at Call of Duty for part of the Aesthetic which can be plainly seen in the loading screens being just like CoD level Transitions, and the game having a focus on The military and Briefings, and Terrorists and Mercenaries being many of the enemy types. When it came to the level design they looked at the Wolverine game as what was currently a popular western action game, and took a bunch of design cues from that, Add in an obligatory Mutiplayer mode similar to how Dead Space 2 had Multiplayer tacked on, and the desire to sell more game features as DLC, leaving the base game only having one weapon. And this all is how you get the "Japanese hamburger for the West" that is Ninja Gaiden 3.
>>1073544 I haven't started razor's edge yet, but that doesn't fill me with hope for the game.
(23.99 MB 640x360 z622xe.mp4)

>>1073546 Razors Edge is actually a good game, it can even be great at times, but it being built off the base that was Vanilla NG3 there was only so much they could do to fix that Disaster. The gameplay gets really fun once you get over the learning curve, as it plays fairly different to NG2 and you need to reconsider how you approuch fights in NG3RE. Once you get in that flow state it can be great, but there are plenty of lingering issues that cause many people to bounce off of the game before the game starts getting fun for them.
>>1073597 How do you do that technique in 0:55 and 1:39?
(9.68 KB 202x255 i do not comprehend.jpg)

>>1073206 >>1073544 I've heard the horror stories surrounding this game, but I didn't think Vanilla NG3 would be THAT bad. What the hell possessed the people in charge of development to make it like that? Even most action games had at least TWO different weapons. I get the series was more popular in the west because Xbox never had good standing in Japan, but that's no fucking excuse to make it "baby's first action game". >Hideo Yoshizawa Looking around, the guy had nothing to do with NG3, his last work in gaming was Muscle March in 2009 (outside of being a chairman of the board and "Senior Vice President" for the recent Age of Empires IV). He also directed the first Klonoa, that was a surprise. The person you're actually thinking off was Masato Kato, who was the writer for NES NG2, as well as the director for NES NG3. He was also responsible for the story for a lot of other games, including beloved ones like: >Chrono Trigger >Chrono Cross >Xenogears >Baten Kaitos 1 How the writer went from Chrono Trigger and Xenogears to NG3 is bewildering.
>>1073603 X, Hold Y, Y It's the same move Crimson Edge that the Tonfa had in NG2, but added to the Sword movelist. >>1073610 Yeah, my bad, I meant Masato Kato, I just was acting too fast in trying to get the name and made that mistake.

>>1073717 Oh yeah, forgot that guy was one of the directors for Vanilla NG3. Shame as he directed Nioh 1 and 2, which were great games and pretty hard in their own right. I finished Nioh 1's story mode, but haven't tried out the DLC nor Nioh 2. Guess I should start sometime soon. >>1073718 >producer for Bayo3 A disappointing game, but hopefully just a black mark on an otherwise alright track re- >director for three different Neptunia games Least I can't find anything terribly wrong with those games and they're all more action-oriented, but still, it doesn't leave a good impression.
So, i just got to the point where i first fight the catgirl demons after dealing with awakened Alma and i think it's a good time as any to farm some essence to upgrade/buy everything. i heard that ghostfish is the best farm in the game, is that true? >>1073731 Nioh 2 is my favorite of the games like dark souls, it has the best combat, everything is well explained in game so you don't miss a important mechanic and most enemies make sense. <director for three different Neptunia games you gonna need to be more specific than that, neptunia games range from turn based jrpgs, tactics, musou all the way to hack and slash ones. which ones he directed?
>>1073810 >i heard that ghostfish is the best farm in the game, is that true? Yeah, the fish respawn constantly in the maze, but the most convenient group of them is at the end of the maze you can make it back to the main city though the big door, there is a group of Fish that keep spawning there, and you can grind them, then make a quick Trek to Muramasa's shop and full stock up before the final Section of the game, and if you've been getting all the Gold Scarabs you'll be making that trek back regardless. >you gonna need to be more specific than that They look like they're some of the hack and slash ones, but nothing too impressive for what I imagine are budget titles.
>>1073826 >They look like they're some of the hack and slash ones, but nothing too impressive for what I imagine are budget titles. well, most if not all neptunia games are budget titles, the only hack and slash one i played was 4 goddess online and that one was fine, not ground breaking, but the combat was good enough for what it was trying to do.
started playing razor's edge, and i hate it >combos got longer for no reason >enemy arena after enemy arena, not exploration at all >the enemy arenas feel more like puzzles than combat encounters, has a dark souls vibe to it >dodging feels iffy and blocking is less responsive than in 1 and 2 legit feels like dogshit playing this, if 4 is going to continue like that (and with platinum on the helm, the lords of the enemy arena) i have no hope for it. I'm actually sad, ninja gaiden 1 is such a good game, it's basically my perfect hack and slash game, how did it like this garbage that is NG3?
>>1074047 BRING HIM BACK
>>1074047 When you compare NG1 and NG2, to Sigma 1 Sigma 2 and NG3, you can see the direction for NG's design make an obvious change, with a greater removal of adventure exploration elements each time. Sigma 1 removed some puzzles and some platforming Sigma 2 removed nearly everything that caused the player to deviate from the main path, removed the Tests of Valor, even simplifyed the players choices of upgrading weapons. Finally, NG3 removes all player choice entirely, and the entire game is on rails with only NG3RE eventually adding a tiny bit more exploration here or there for finding the Test of valor challenges or Gold Scarabs. The combat also became more combo focused starting with Sigma 2 since they buffed up all the enemies health bars, and that followed into NG3, but it's not quite as egregious with Razor's Edge.
>>1074183 Whatever the fucj Team Ninja is now they really don't understand that NG2 is about killing as many enemies as you can as fast and efficient as possible. They think it's some sort of fucking DMC style spectacle fighter where you combo hitsponges to death.
>>1074183 >>1074188 This may come across as a weird segue, but what's your opinions on Ninja Blade and The Force Unleashed? The former was suppose to be From's "Not NG" game, but I'm playing TFU2 on the Wii and it's throwing me for a loop. It plays nothing like the first game, instead going down the path of being a character action game, but it plays nothing like the DMC/GoW style games that used to rule clutter that format.
>>1074194 I haven't got around to playing Ninja Blade, but it Certainly looks like an interesting relic of that era of games, I never rented it back in the day because of the not so positive reviews it got, but knowing Fromsofts Style now it does seem like a game that's worth checking out if just for curiosity's sake, I attempted to play the PC version before, but I decided if I do try Ninja Blade Xenia Emulation would probably be more stable eventually then the stuff going on with that PC version. Force Unleashed 2 I remember being disappointed in, The bosses in general felt like they had an absurd amount of health, and the lightsabers felt even more like Wiffleball Bats than usual. It's probably a less Janky game than the First game, but it's less ambitious, like it was a sequel that got made out of Obligation instead of the devs feeling there was more that could have been done. I probably wouldn't mind it as much if I ever do go back and give it another shot, but I'll always have much more fond feelings toward the first game.
(103.80 KB 900x675 weeb.jpg)

God I fucking hate how inconsistent the bosses are >Hit him right as he's vulnerable >He gets staggered and take a big chunk of his health >Hit him even more precisely on his vulnerable timing <Either he doesn't get staggered or just has RNG invincibility frames I fucking hate it so much, you can learn the bosses as much as you want but most of them are just broken.
>>1074669 Are you still suffering through Ninja Gaiden 3 ?
>>1074676 Ninja Gaiden 2 "Black"
>>1064333 I hope its good but to release Ninja Gaiden 2 Black and falsely advertise it as the definitive edition when it clearly is not doesn't really give me reason to have much faith in them to make NG4 as good as it should be. I think most likely we can expect it to be better than most action games by today's standards but it won't be as great as the best games in the genre from the past. I get the feeling their new edge lord protagonist is probably going to be lame. If they wanted a new protagonist they should have made a new sexy ninja girl. This would have went a long way in building trust for old fans and ensure potential new fans that they aren't going to DEIslop the game up with stupid shit. Plus the character being brand new to the series could have allowed them to sort of have that fresh take they seem to want for the franchise with the edgelord gen Z protagonist. And the other NG girls could always have been included for the story or as cameos as well. I guess we will see how the game is soon enough. Its not like the hacking and slashing action genre has even really been much of a thing in gaming in the past years. The combat will likely at least be decent but I really hope they don't try too hard to force a story that takes itself too seriously.
>>1075221 It's published by fucking Microshaft so I have zero hope. I think the new character will have Platinum mechanics and movesets and Ryu will have his old movesets and mechanics. That's about it, the boring art design and the titless Lamia boss were blatant red flags as well.
