The Sims 5 cancelled Anonymous 09/25/2024 (Wed) 22:25:36 Id: 9d52a1 No. 1018780
YOU WILL PLAY SIMS 4 FOREVER AND YOU WILL LIKE IT https://archive.ph/mrD6X This is actually old news now, having officially been cancelled last week. Seems to have gone under the radar. Their reasoning is such bullshit. >EA vice president and The Sims general manager Kate Gorman explained that rather than starting over from scratch again and 'replacing' past games, "You'll see there are more ways to experience The Sims on different platforms, different ways to play, transmedia, and lots of great offerings within this universe." EA has also stated they're not going to be making any more Sims sequels, saying they've "moved beyond" that. This broken, janky piece of trash will be the last numbered Sims title. Did you know they forked it from some scrapped web MMO, and that's why it's so feature limited?

Watching the AAA industry crash and burn is so much more entertaining that their games nowadays, this makes me happy.
The Sims 4 has been a genuine fucking curse on this franchise
>>1018780 >Seems to have gone under the radar. It was in the minor news thread. Sims 4 is a trashfire and no amount of (broken and overpriced) content additions are going to get me to move on from Sims 1/2/3. Maybe one day that inZOI game might be worth it, and then EA might actually be forced to put in some degree of effort again. >Did you know they forked it from some scrapped web MMO Honestly explains a great deal.
FOSS re implementation of Sims 3 when?
Releasing a half-baked game 4 times and re-releasing the exact same expansions is truly the apex of jewry they've been doing well before the advent of shit like freemium, lootboxes and gacha. >Sims 1: Unleashed >Sims 2: Pets >Sims 3: Pets >Sims 4: Cats & Dogs The Sims was never good and is one of the worst series ever made. Fuck everyone who developed this shit, even Will Wright.
>>1018785 InZOI's minimum requirements are too fucking high for The Sims' base audience (women) and ParaLives will take forever to make. Paradox's Sims clone was cancelled two weeks before product launch a 100% completion, so who the fuck knows.
>>1018780 >transmedia What the fuck does this buzzword mean?
>>1018786 I've tried playing several Sims games before and preferred Animal Crossing and that's barely a fucking game.
>>1018788 >Paradox's Sims clone was cancelled two weeks before product launch a 100% completion Seriously? Why did they do that one?
>>1018780 If they do anything with that IP I expect they'll make Sims a subscription service like most shit on mobile & workstation shit on desktop have done. If EA can get suckers to pay every month for Sims they will. Screenshot this. It's gonna happen. Their anemic content packs were already suckering paypigs to buy the game over & over while adding very little to it.
Despite all of its flaws, TS3 is my personal favorite of the franchise. I'll stick to it for the open-world environment and the horny mods.
>>1018792 That is bizarre. Makes you wonder just what the hell was going on over there. >>1018796 The open world sandbox was great even if the game had issues. >>1018795 >It's gonna happen I'm surprised it hasn't already. Subscribe to avoid paying the hundreds of dollars to buy all the dlc, and I'm sure you will get retards who bite. Though I guess technically they already have with their subscription service which includes Sims 4 last time I looked.
>>1018789 It's media with an axe wound in the groin area that starts rotting and gets infested with maggots and you have to repeatedly force it open with a dildo.
>>1018796 The open world environment and Create a Style, plus the ability to move items outside of the grid system easily make TS3 the best in the franchise. None of the others can hope to come close. CAS alone blows every other game in this series out of the water.

While this news is inevitably going to be disappointing to a large group of people, it's for the best that Sims 5 is never going to happen. In the hands of current day EA and without the passion that made the first 3 games enjoyable, the series can only rot, fall apart, and become more of a phantom of its former self than it already is. The people currently working on the dev team wouldn't be able to handle making a competent entry in the series. Most likely, to create The Sims 5, they would make a game based on The Sims 4 engine, which would be a disaster for several reasons. Even if they add "upgrades" to the system, because of its spaghetti code, anything they tack on will do more harm than good. And there's absolutely no way that the devs would be able to create a new engine/code from the ground up. They don't have the skill. This was talked about a bit in the minor news thread, but Kate Gorman said that one of the reasons why the team isn't making TS5 is because she doesn't want players to feel like they have to reset everything and lose their progress. Thing is, the only reason fans would be upset about having to start over is because they spent over a thousand bucks on the DLC for TS4. Which is the most anyone has ever had to pay for Sims DLC. Of course, it's partly the fans fault for being idiots and buying it in the first place, but mainly the fault lies with EA and their infamous predatory DLC practices. So it's a bit ironic that they are blaming the fans for something that is clearly a decision made to try and maximize profits with minimal effort. https://web.archive.org/web/20240917183918/https://variety.com/2024/gaming/news/the-sims-5-update-multiplayer-creator-content-ea-interview-1236142010/
>>1018786 >even Will Wright. To be fair. Will Wright is the kind of person to immediately move on after creating a project. He stepped back from the SimCity series after creating The Sims and he stepped back from that when working on Spore. >>1018785 I think we need to wait for a FOSS re-implementation of the first game. I know Simitone is a thing, but there are still a few things it doesn't support yet like the Fame career track from SuperStar. I would also like to see someone actually replacing the assets and have a fully FOSS Sims clone.
To be fair there is no reason for The Sims 5 to exist when a korean superior competitor is coming. If they didn't went full retarded with their expansion policy it wouldn't be so bad.
>>1018931 >korean competitor Wasn't that one cancelled? Regardless it pains me to see one company monopolizing an entire genre.
>>1018957 Not that I'm aware of. The only thing I'm not happy with is that noone managed to replicate the full Sims 3 freedom to make your own town.
>>1018957 inZOI had a character creator that was available for a week as a beta thing, but that's closed now. the game is still in development.
>>1018903 To make a FOSS clone of the Sims, first you need to design an architecture simulator. Then you need to tack on a dynamic system for texturing walls. Then decide you could make this an interior design simulator, and so you tack on system to pick and drop furniture. Then someone suggests "why don't we simulate people?", so based on what you already know from working on other games where you already kind of simulated people, you think "this shouldn't be too hard". So after you get the easy stuff out of the way like retroactively creating pathing weights to every tile and work on sims pathing to objects, you add in basic needs, oh now you gotta add in food, oh but how do they get food? Guess they need to buy it, but wait they need money to buy food, guess there needs to be a job system, eh it's kind of unrealistic to buy takeout all the time, better add in a cooking system, hmm but they should have to learn skills so lets add a skill system and animations for interacting with objects like mirrors, the mirrors really should be able to show their reflection bah I'll figure that out later... etc, etc It's going to be a lot of work to "just make a sims clone", and for how many things have to be handled by the engine, I just don't think unity, godot or unreal engine are going to be performant enough, especially if towns are open world and it simulates all the sims in the background so the world doesn't feel frozen when you're focusing on just your sims
>>1018796 Same here. I always heard people say 3 runs like shit and is ugly, but 4 is just as bad and with a worse foundation and less shit to actually do.
>>1018805 >>1018792 Given how completely broken Cities Skylines 2 was at release (to the point graphical options were reversed in some cases) and most CK expansions were released, I wouldn't be surprised if there were totally unfixable issues Paradox deemed it not worth releasing.
>>1019091 If Sims 3 could be reverse engineered and better optimized it would see a renaissance like with Daggerfall Unity.
>>1019134 >Sims 3 gameplay with Sims 2 graphics, and none of either's bugs or stability issues YOU WANT IT ALL BUT YOU CAN'T HAVE IT
>>1019137 Wait, I never really played Sims 3. But the one thing I'd expect to be better would be the graphics. How are they worse?
>>1019156 They're technically better but most people prefer 2's art style.
>>1019137 >>1019180 this anon gets it. How bad is sims 4 i see the thread complaining but I stopped early on due to how bland the game is without dlcs
(79.70 KB 680x631 IMG_6640.jpeg)

>>1019248 The DLCs just give you more options for things to do that are bland, really. Everything feels hollow and superficial. Like the majority of Western women, honestly; it's a perfect "game" for them.
>>1019248 >How bad is sims 4 Pretty awful. The DLC stuff is only one of several issues the game has. <Graphics/details are in many ways worse than TS3 even though it is the newer game and not open world. <Oversimplified animations, devs cut corners by having objects teleport into and out of a sim's hands. <Sims consistently pause during animations to just stare into space like they're lobotomized, causing actions to take longer than they should <The Emotions system is totally broken. A wife will walk in on her husband cheating on her and will automatically clap, smile, and cheer because sims are hardcoded to be happy when witnessing romantic events. Later, all the husband has to do is say something saucy to the wife, and she will become Flirty, completely overwriting the anger and sadness from having her heart blasted to pieces. A sim will witness the death of a relative, take about 10 seconds to recognize what happened, and about an hour later he will be laughing to himself as if his mom didn't just die. <A sim's capacity to make memories and form family connections is lessened from previous entries. In TS2, if a toddler is scolded a lot by her grandmother, she will remember this when she becomes a teenager, and will resent the grandmother for it automatically. In TS4, negative interactions often have to be forced or chosen in settings, so when the strict grandma comes over to visit, sims just get a little moodlet popup to read that says "Oh no, grandma is annoying! -5 happiness!" <Sims are always smiling. Always. It's like their mouths are stuck that way. They are also very quiet, there isn't as much chatter as their was in previous games, making things feel more empty and robotic. Sims also look very cartoony and smooth, which doesn't look very good, but this is more up to personal preference. <Many things in DLCs don't work. Weddings are glitchy even though they worked fine in the other games. Eating out almost never works as expected, despite, again, being fine in the other games. <More "rabbit holes" than ever. Sims often teleport somewhere then return later, the only details about what they did appearing as a text box.
>>1019297 <Sims consistently pause during animations to just stare into space like they're lobotomized, causing actions to take longer than they should Oh, that's a widespread thing? I thought it was maybe a glitch caused by my piracy/mods. I've experienced that since day one and they still haven't fixed it literally ten years later.
(1.26 MB 1253x1167 werewolvs.png)

>>1019291 It ironically is it brings their subconscious desires to the fore. I've seen eugenics, gentrification, racism the works basically. For all their lies at the end of the day theyre equally as hateful as the people they hate if not more so. >>1019297 Boy am I glad i didnt waste hundreds of hours on that. But no im nostalgic for 2 and 3 Also wow these models are hideous this isn't even a subjective thing.
>>1019297 ><The Emotions system is totally broken. All of this actually sounds pretty realistic.
>>1019303 Yes, it's something that happens in all copies of the game. Even if a sim has everything he needs, his animations are not fluid and he'll just pause at least once during a process. Like holding a frying pan above a counter just looking at nothing, before finally tipping the contents onto a plate. Even if the devs wanted to fix it, they probably can't because of how badly coded the game is. >spoiler 2 didn't have this problem and it was released 20 years ago now. >>1019306 >Also wow these models are hideous this isn't even a subjective thing. Many people over the years have said the sims in 3 look bad, but the models in 4 are a whole different kind of awful/boring. Not even the werewolves are allowed to look intimidating or have the slightest hint of realism. They're more like fursonas than monsters. >>1019307 Those situations would be interesting twists if the sim had some sort of trait that made her react to cheating differently. Or if a sim had a bad relationship with his mother so her death didn't affect him much. Great for players who want drama without having to imagine most of it on their own.
>>1019331 >Those situations would be interesting twists if the sim had some sort of trait that made her react to cheating differently. Or if a sim had a bad relationship with his mother so her death didn't affect him much. Great for players who want drama without having to imagine most of it on their own. I was thinking more about how women don't actually care about cheating sometimes because really it just means their man is a chad. As long as she doesn't think he's gonna leave her, then it's fine. And well people grieve is strange ways. Sometimes instead of just crying all the time, a grieving person's emotions just become extreme for a little while. Plus, people adapt surprisingly fast to some emotional things.
At least it means the mods will never become outdated for Sims 4.
>>1019331 I was one of those that said 3 looked bad, but it grew on me, I still consider 2 peak. But theres so much mods for 3 it almos feels like a nonissue, except those load times fuck were they horrible. >spoiler Thats because they are thats not a werewolf
>>1019297 Amazing I believed you when you made this post, but looking at some of these sims comparison videos its clear you made zero exaggerations, 4 looks like complete garbage with its lack of animations, 0 soul. Its starting to make sense why there are so many wannabe sims clones were being made even if they failed to launch. If sims 4 is the competition they probably thought they could steal a share of the market. Part of me can't believe 4 was that bad but it makes sense why they gave it for free and why 3 is still selling for 20 bucks.
>>1019307 They did literally add cuckolding to the game though. Oh wait, they call it "polyamorous relationships". This is not a joke.
>>1019297 >Many things in DLCs don't work That surprised me when I was skimming through DLC reviews a while back. Sure I expected to see low effort content, but I didn't expect so many of them to be outright broken to some degree. Some were broken for a year+ and just left like that. I'm not sure if this is just general incompetence/laziness or if they really do lack the skills to fix their own game. The fact they have the audacity to keep adding more DLC to it when so much is left broken is crazy. >>1019358 >except those load times fuck were they horrible Yeah I have a heavily modded game that takes around 5 mins to load. Not to mention the annoying delays when you have a lot of custom outfits/patterns/hair/etc in CAS. This was also the only game I've seen that warns you to turn off DLC when you have it all enabled.
(88.93 KB 254x273 1463457422945.png)

>>1019442 I heard you have to pay for that feature however, which just makes it all the more amusing that there are faggots who will pay to get cucked.
>>1019481 Maybe some of them want to cope they can form a harem in a sims game, as if the devs would allow something so problematic.
>>1019297 Correct, but I can't believe you left out the worst aspect in the game: trannies. <chest binders <surgical scars <"please select whether this sim can stand up to pee/whether this sim can get pregnant" instead of choosing an actual biological gender <tranny NPCs Anything with transfaggotry is an automatic no from me. I'll be happy with my Sims1/2 thank you.
>>1019297 Don't forget that your Sims can die if they have too extreme an emotion. This wouldn't be a problem if emotions didn't change on a dime and stack as easily as they do, so it can be very easy for a playful Sim to laugh themselves to death if you're not careful.
>>1019488 which ironically you can achieve in the sims 3 using the kinkyworld mod, although I'm pretty sure it's actually because of how buggy the game gets that you can do it I was able to get an entire household fuckin' and suckin' and as long as I kept telling sims to join in they all just lived with it (I think the only time this didn't work was when sims were married and they would end up divorcing immediately after being in an orgy)
>>1019455 > if they really do lack the skills to fix their own game. You should look a the Sims 2 side by side comparison videos with Sims 4 Its clear brain drain is what happened, the people who made the original left and now theyre stuck with people who have no idea what theyre doing. >Yeah I have a heavily modded game that takes around 5 mins to load. Definitely one of the many flaws that hold it back >>1019481 KEK
>>1018931 >>1018957 >>1018796 >>1018792 >>1018788 I think its more likely that EA is gonna send lawyers up your ass nintendo style after any game that tries to copy sims. Cities skyline showed that you don't need a superior product to eat up your audience and sales, just a viable competitor.
(34.62 KB 478x269 Pump up those numbers.jpg)

>>1019543 >was able to get an entire household fuckin' and suckin' That some rookie sith dude! I made half of the town an incest cesspool, seeded fantasy (not) egypt and fantasy (not) china. AND even had a whole fucking harem in 3 different future! The game family tree just gave up showing the "relatives and offspring" in my international interdimensional cluster fuck.
>>1019570 I tried man, my save file corrupted itself when a loli that moved into the household got pregnant from the man of the house and it broke the setting to not advance age and forced her to give birth to a glitched out baby that destroyed reality.
(316.25 KB 720x557 especially utopian.png)

>>1019570 > harem in 3 different future You rewrote at least 2 of those future so they dont count. Whilst i liked the premise of the future expansion The decor and neighborhoods were shit. possibly the most dull. Especially in the utopia setting.
I have never played a Sims game in my life. Am I missing out? Should I start and where? I am familiar with most of the memes like the 18 hour hedge maze, the guy burning the house down with his lover in it, the ayyliums, etc. but just never got into it. I guess it's cause my parents never bought it for me all those years ago when the first game came out.
>>1019622 The memes are more entertaining than the game itself, you have to make your fun with these kinds of sandbox sims by screwing around with it, not to say that can't be fun or anything, they're basically parody social town builders in a sense.
>>1019622 >Am I missing out? Yes. But you need to start it smart. Like star with TS2 or TS 3 vanilla no expansions. Yes expansions they didnt shitted out DLCs until TS4. Character crreation beats any modern AAA game CC. Skill system on par with Morrowind. Instead of steam-like jewish braindead achievements you have in game challanges which reward you with traits and gadgets. House building is top tier still this day! Expansion are wild and i strongly suggets to try them one by one, but not all at once. They are huge with unique themes and have a huge impact on the gameplay. If you want to start with TS3 then skip the last expansion, the one with the mermaids and the boat houses on the sea. The concept is good, but the game cant handle it too long. Propably was released to fuck over every Sims 3 player before Sims 4 came oubot linkrmaids are a lost, but you can clang robots, zombies, ghosts (wide variety), vampires, werehoes, dickrider faires, witches and cumslut mummies. >>1019576 Im sure i had the option to turn it back with the time control gadget, but i played the game nearly a decade ago. I dont know. Anyway the waste land part of the city was kinda neat, and the robots just made the whole expansion worth it.
>>1019622 Start Sims 2 and then go to 3 with all expansions. Not that sims 1 is bad but it just requires a whole bunch of imagination with how lackluster the graphic is. Which is the keyword how much imagination do you have to create your own story. >>1019629 >i played the game nearly a decade ago Yeah im looking back with nostalgia, can't believe i lost Sims 3 but managed to kept sims 1 discs Except now my computer doesnt have a disc reader
>>1019628 https://yt.artemislena.eu/watch?v=nsxoZXaYJSk&t=4200s Dollhouse Sims These games really aren't all that good but they can be fun if you can make your own fun with it.
If you have a penis and play The Sims, welcome to the LGBTQIAP, and congratulations in advance on your upcoming transition!
>>1019687 I like SimsAnt, that's about it, SimCity is ok I guess.
>>1019622 I played Sims 1 and 2 when I was a child/early teen. It is a unique experience, as there is no other game that does as good of a job as The Sims in recreating the feel of a dollhouse that Korean game hasn't released yet. Now what does that mean? Well you have a few playstiles available: >recreate your life with slight modifications Maybe you want to recreate your highschool/college experience, but now you get to date the hot emo GF childhood friend who is secretely a vampire. You can do that in Sims 2, with the University expansion you go to campus and live a campus life with the emo GF. Or maybe you want to recreate an even shittier version of yourself, who fails at everything in life and drowns himself in the end, you can also do that in the Sims. >be the director of your own slice of life or drama TV show This requires a bit more creativity and planning, and it's what most of those famous memes boil down to. Basically you either play one of the pre-generated families from the game with their own backstories and drama, or you create your own Sitcom/Drama. Maybe you want to do something like F.R.I.E.N.D.S. or Braking Bad or whatever slice of life anime you like, it is somewhat possible. Or just go for something simple like two sisters who hate each other and want to kill each other(one of the families from the base game of Sims 2), search for aliens and as a male get impregnated by one(vanilla Sims 2), maybe you want to be a landlord and see how the tenants interact( there was an expansion pack for Sims 2 about this). The game, just like a doll house, gives you a lot of stuff to fuck around with, but you also have to want to engage with it. Or again, just recreate your life, but idyllic, that's also valid. >go for a self imposed challenge run Maybe you want to run a pet store and have every Sim in the neighborhood adopt one of your pets, you can do that. Maybe you want to impregnate all the married women in the game, probably can do that even without mods. Maybe you want to do a from rags to riches story, you can do that. >fuck all of that shit, I love AutoCAD You can also just build houses, restaurants, schools, campuses, night clubs, shops and much more. There are plenty of people who upload maps and buildings on the net, so there is a target audience for this as well. As for missing our, considering how unique it is, I think it's worth giving it a try, either go for 2 or 3 if you can run it, or wait for the Korean one if you suffer from extreme yellow fever.
>>1019694 it should be noted that with TS3 there are quite a few tweaks that can be applied to improve performance, the obvious one is to have it installed on an SSD there are several init tweaks needed like changing the memory limit to 4gb, or according to the ini file: [ResourceSystem] MemoryUsageLimit = 40000000 you can't go higher than 4gb because it's only a 32bit application, it's hard capped to 4gb you also need an fps limiter because TS3 tries to run at an ulimited framerate for some reason and it makes the game run even worse there are probably more tweaks I've forgotten about that if it wasn't for the kinkyworld mod I'd never have known
>>1019900 >it should be noted that with TS3 there are quite a few tweaks that can be applied to improve performance, the obvious one is to have it installed on an SSD Better hardware improves performance? No way!
>>1019900 >you can't go higher than 4gb because it's only a 32bit application, it's hard capped to 4gb >you also need an fps limiter because TS3 tries to run at an ulimited framerate for some reason and it makes the game run even worse This explains so much
>>1020036 >you also need an fps limiter because TS3 tries to run at an ulimited framerate for some reason and it makes the game run even worse You don't need one, who doesn't want Sims on crack?
>>1020041 >on crack No thats sims 3 on some other drug that makes you feel slow as shit.. I almost never customized characters because the loading screens were that bad Of course this was 10 plus years ago
>>1020041 it doesn't make the sims feel like it's on crack, it literally slows the game down while working your hardware as hard as it can, older hardware it didn't really matter because the game was made to utilize that slow hardware best it could, but newer hardware actually gets overburdened because it wont limit itself to processing just 60 frames per second, not all frames are going to be rendered so it's literally just wasting your hardware's time by processing several hundred frames ahead of time
>>1020161 You'd probably get better performance just framecapping it and using a speedhack.
>>1019900 >you can't go higher than 4gb because it's only a 32bit application, it's hard capped to 4gb That's very bad, especially for a game like Sims 3 with it's map size and all of it's expansions. That will be a permanent bottleneck to it's performance, regardless of what new GPU and CPU you have. At this point, the best hope is for some mad lad to make some OpenSims game engine that allows you to port the assets from Sims 3, from your "legally owned copy" into the engine, same with Open Morrowind and Open Tomb Raider.
>>1020168 some of the expansions are just outright game breaking too, like makes the game unplayable broken
(1.44 MB 1364x652 Nah Cunt.png)

It finally happened. EA is nothing but a Niggerball company now! They have nothing else, no capacity for growth even.
>>1020181 Performance-wise or "balance" (in a "life simulator" with aliens and vampires)-wise?
>>1020209 Sadly performance. All this nostalgia posting made me reinstall the game. The old pirated complete edition still working. Thats good. Porn mods still maintained. Thats good. Skin and better looking sims mods need some really tiresome search. Thats okay. Launch the game and my rtx 3080 starts to scream like someone ass raping her without lube. Thats fucking bad! If it wasnt for >>1019900 anon i would accidentally burn out my card. But that not the funny thing! The fucking dog comedy is that this issue was solved by modders for years! It even has its own steam page with extra autistic wall of text guide how easy it was to fix and how the devs are fucking jews for purposely letting it in its state! If you want the game for the porn then (just like Skyrim) its not worth it. If you want to play doll house then this is your only and best option until the chinks step up.
