Chinese Character/Art Design Anonymous 10/29/2024 (Tue) 03:17:55 Id: cdb5a2 No. 1032677
I want to discuss a certain phenomenon that I have noticed particularly with games funded by China or appealing to their Chinese demographic. I can't really describe exactly what it is which is why I wished to make a thread about it to get some perspective. Maybe it'll make sense to others more than me. All, or most Chinese-appealing characters have this 'sameness' about them. They all look generic in a way. Soulless is another word to describe them. Almost like they have no real character for themselves. They all have very similar attributes that make them cookie-cutter. The thing is, I can't really name a specific attribute that does this, but I can feel it. I know it's there, I just can't put my finger on it, like a 6th sense. If I were to take a guess at the specifics, I'd say it's almost like they're 'safe' in a way, not meant to offend and not meant to have any hugely defining characteristic that might set them apart from other characters. That, and they're overdesigned, making it presumably very hard to make any fanart for the character. The simpler designs always tend to have more fanart. But does correlation equal causation? I don't know. Anyone able to help express what I am noticing here?
>>1032677 I call them "Dreamworks rejects" or "gay ass Frozen artstyle", you know despite the game being produced by the state they certainly have a fascination with white people (specially with aryan features) it's like lefties in general suffer the same inferiority complex as snowniggers or sodoamericans to basically rip the face of a normal human being and wear it, just to hide their mixed race repulsiveness. It's worth mentioning something similar with freemasonery in where they need white men to represent their kosher cult while giving out meaningless ranks to shitskins to also extend their power.
>>1032688 People like the guy in the third pic actually do evoke pity from me, even though I know he'd irrationally hate and try to destroy me. But look at him. He's clearly actually disabled, and really has no chance in life. I mean, the people on this site probably feel that way about themselves, but I bet most of us are less disabled and fucked than this guy. I can understand why he'd be broken and try to escape into fantasy, trying to pretend he's the furthest thing from himself possible. What do you get when you cross a physically disabled loner with a society that abandons him and treats him like trash? You get a mentally ill freak like this.
>>1032708 In terms of society providing and accommodating for disabilities, the west is the most advanced society has ever been. He obviously has a harder time of it than most people, but there are those who actually strive for greater in spite of their disabilities. The /v/idya fitness thread's OP shows one such example in the pics.
>>1032677 I agree in principle and in general but I don't think you picked the right pics for any of em. >>1032688 > being produced by the state they certainly have a fascination with white people (specially with aryan features) I completely disagree, its all soulless they don't care they only care that you like it and that it doesnt make em recoil in disgust.
>>1032677 Chinese games have "safe horny" elements to them. Meaning they're all lewd, (in the sense the females are indeed woman shaped rather than butch dyke or troons) but they're all covered up all over and their clothes stick to them like superglue. The chinks probably have a ESG/DEI like guideline to keep track on how they design their characters.
>>1032677 >The thing is, I can't really name a specific attribute that does this <Anime/animesque <frequent use of bright colors <Spiky and/or over designed Simple as.
>>1032726 >The chinks probably have a ESG/DEI like guideline to keep track on how they design their characters. They do, literal missives from the communist party telling them not to make the designs too sexy because anything too sexy is degenerate makes men weak and decadent and thus poor soldiers for the People's Republic. It's basically the exact opposite of the "Sexism and soggy knees" arguments in the West.
Another good and substantial OP? Man, we're getting spoiled. I'm going to be the contrarian and state that China does in fact have worthy talent. A lot of indie donghua basically split from trying to imitate anime and instead use very sketchy line work that's incredibly distinctive and readable; see Wolf Smoke and Flint Sugar. Hell, some Chinese animations go full on in on replicating danqing ink paintings. Bilibili and Haoliners also do a good job of imitating an anime art style without going overboard in greebling on the characters. What I *think* might be happening is that the Chinese people are heavily influenced by a fashion movement pushed by the CCP called hanfu, which purports to promote the "traditional" attire of the Han Chinese, except that the Cultural Leap Forward destroyed a lot of records pertaining to how Chinese people actually dressed back then and so what the CCP is promoting is more like a warped parody. If you observe some hanfu outfits you can detect a lot of ornate elements tacked onto a simple robe much like what we see in Chinese character designs. Japan, meanwhile, was able to acclimate in developing yokufu (Western-inspired fashion) and having it coexist with wakufu (traditional Japanese fashion) during its Meiji period, and thus has a more universally appealing and refined aesthetic. I should look into this more but I think I'm onto something here considering Việt phục and hanbok are also visually distinct.
>>1032677 Ancient Chinese Proverb "Imitation is sincerest form of flattery". They copy and steal. A decade back they had this Pixar craze and made derivative unoriginal movies that sold well enough in their domestic market. You also have "Donghua" aka Chinese Animation, you can look hem up and judge for yourself.
>>1032677 >Dota 2 <Chinese >>1032708 IIRC, that guy managed to give up on trannyism and accept his sex. >>1032766 Nothing that you posted looks sketchy, though. While chink drawings tend to be recognizable as such, if you really want soulless art just look at what Worst Korea puts out.
>>1032775 Hey man, the gooks can put out good shit too. I feel like discussions like these miss the wider point of things. It's usually not a given race's or nation's art that is soulless on its own, it's the artists in that nation choosing to ape a trend or not put in effort rather than make something truly their own or do work they enjoy rather than chasing a paycheck. You can tell when something's just a trend chaser, knockoff or a ripoff of something better, even if you've never seen the original. You can also tell when an artist doesn't put effort or care into a product that they're working on. That's soul-less ness. soullessness? How do you spell it?
