Game of the Month #16 (January 2025): Iridion II (GBA/PC) Anonymous 01/15/2025 (Wed) 11:21:10 Id: cd86ae No. 1061108
>What is this? This is exactly how it sounds: A game is chosen each month (which will be relatively or totally obscure on purpose) with hopes of bringing new avenues of playing potential to anons with narrow video game perspectives. The goal isn't necessarily to pick bad games, but obscure ones nobody, or as few people as possible, have played. You can play the game and then use that fact as bragging rights to others! You can use it to broaden your backlog horizons! or you can forget about it. It's up to you. THIS MONTH: Iridion II (PC) >Where do I get this? 7E2A1BD9 Alternatively, for the GBA experience: aHR0cHM6Ly9kbDFhLnJldHJvZ2FtZXRhbGsuY29tL2Rvd25sb2FkLnBocD9maWxlPUlyaWRpb24lMjBJSSUyMCUyOFVTQSUyOS56aXAmaWQ9MTI2NDMwJnBsYXRmb3JtPWdiYS1yb21zJmtleT0xNDEzMzk1MjQ4Ng== GUIDELINES FOR FUTURE GotMs: Poll for February 2025: [removed] If you do not like any of the games in the poll, you can either add a new entry manually, or reply to the OP with a different suggestion. Don't come crying to me if you don't like the game, blame democracy. If you DO suggest a game though, please, report all relevant information on the game (magnet/dl link, interesting mods, guides, tutorials on tech, speedrun etc.). Feel free to suggest any and every game you can think of, bonus points if it's games that barely anyone has played or talks about in the [Current Year] or that fit the month thematically. However, try and follow these rules: 1) No game that relies on modern hardware. If the game cannot be pirated or emulated properly, or no working emulator for the game exists, most people won't be able to enjoy it, rendering the thread kind of pointless; 2) No always-online games, meaning no live service games or mobile games that are dependent on external servers, unless a backup instance of said servers has been created by its fans or the offline content is significantly larger than the online content; 3) For multiplayer games, provide only free to play games that let players create their own servers, or games with local multiplayer that can be set up to play online (requires someone to be a hostfag, or, and may Allah forgive me for uttering these words, using Parsec); 4) No game that requires gimmicky controls to be enjoyable (guitar pedals, Wiimotes, cameras etc.) unless they can be easily remapped or translated into some other control scheme. >>1061108 This month, (You) choose the next game. Rigger takes it all, loser takes the fall. It's now or never, I don't want to live forever. Mark please whitelist the damn rentry links this time
>>1061110 >Rigger What game did some even go schizo about with that, was it the shitty gacha?
>>1061114 t. the rigger, still discrediting the same way
>>1061110 I know they're rigged, you do too OP, and everyone who followed this before does, but still, can we not start this way? /v/ discussed the last game fine, without the guy caught rigging them derailing everything and declaring everyone schizophrenic. This invites him and his samefags to demolish the game's discussion, fating the thread to catastrophe.
>>1061108 What exactly does this 'PC version' add to the fame?
This is a fucking GBA game
Seems a scrolling shooter by Shin'en Multimedia released on GBA in 2003 and on Steam in 2020. Steam and GBA links. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1132230/Iridion_II/ https://github.com/vbaemulator/GBA-Roms/raw/main/Iridion%20II%20(USA).zip It's short, 2 hours. Might have a go later.

I remember plaything this game on my hacked 3DS (which runs GBA games natively believe it or not). It's one of the few notable GBA shmups, I guess most devs didn't want to develop shmups for handhelds back then since the screens were tiny, even the 3DS version of FZII had to compensate by making the bullets bigger.
>>1061141 Your point being?
>>1061275 >>1061160 The OP should have >Iridion II (GBA) Instead of >Iridion II (PC) So that I can set my expectations accordingly
>>1061145 Damn, they really put in the bare minimum with this. Does it at least still have the music editor on the title screen?
>>1061317 I'm sure OP can put in some trigger warnings for you next time anon.

Just tried the GBA version of Iridion II. There are 3 difficulties: Starter Pilot, Advanced Pilot, and Ace Pilot. 3 modes: Story Mode, Arcade Mode, and Challenge Mode. And 3 options: Gallery, Jukebox, and Credits. I picked Advanced Pilot and Story Mode. Iridion II told me this story in a Star Wars intro scroll. >More than a hundred years have passed since Earth has been attacked by the vicious IRIDION forces. >The legend tells a single brave SHN Fighter Pilot found his way to destroy the evil IRIDION mainframe. >After this glorious victory all remaining enemy ships disappeared from known space. >So humans began to colonize the Planet Systems of the IRIDION home galaxy. >Peace and freedom came back to mankind. The IRIDION menace was history. >... until now. Then a commander told me this story. >Here's the situation. The evil Iridion forces have regrouped after their defeat on Iridion Prime a hundred years ago. They have come to reclaim their planets. We can't allow this to happen. We need someone to defeat them once and for all. I was told you were the best. Complete the Virtual Reality Training program to prove that you know how to handle your SHN fighter. Once familiar with the controls of your ship, head to the ALPHA Galaxy. The tutorial explains the mechanics: your space craft is capable of autofiring by holding down A. If you double tap and then hold A you can release a powerful beam. To upgrade your weapon system you need to collect power-ups. Power-ups are carried by special enemies. Those enemies must be destroyed before they'll drop power-ups. After collecting power-ups press B to upgrade your current weapon. After you upgraded a weapon your spacecraft will be extended by two satellites. The satellites can be moved up and down when releasing A. By holding A the satellites' position is fixed. Press Select to lock the satellites to their current position. Press Select again to unlock them. After collecting a power-up and before pressing B you also have the choice to change to a different weapon. Press R/L to select your desired weapon. Each weapon can be upgraded three times. You can change to already upgraded weapons at any time by pressing R/L. Whenever you start in a level you are equipped with one smartbomb. Smartbombs are also occasionally floating around and waiting to be collected. To release the smartbomb press R and L simultaneously. In the ALPHA Galaxy I chose and completed Azuki Canyon in 4:16 with 11370 points before bonuses, like a life bonus of 4500 and a smartbomb bonus of 1000. My rank sucked (rank C), as I spammed bullets, which ranks punish with an Accuracy bonus. Iridion II's a fun shmup I'll probably finish.
The Iridion games aren't bad but they basically classic eurojank shmumps (German) for the GBA so there really isn't much to take from them beyond that.
I'm half tempted to bite the bullet and just make the March poll a voting-only experiment, taking the obscure games as requests from the thread itself, to restore the "obscure titles" part of GotM. How do you guys feel about that?

>>1064656 If you're going to hand pick the candidates, consider including Tempest of the Heavens and Earth, it's a 2hu fangame with autistic cuhrayzee combat: https://store.steampowered.com/app/994020/Tempest_of_the_Heavens_and_Earth/
>>1064704 That Tenshi ate loads of indian curry before starting that game.
>>1061108 Due to the obvious rigging, I would propose to Zoom to make Boktai: The Sun Is in Your Hand the next Game of the Month, although the decision is entirely up to him and only him. Please do not derail the thread further over the rigging issue.

>>1066450 Holy crap that's some schizo tier rigging, I really want to know how he managed to do that. Throws a wrench into my plans for what I wanted to do next
>>1067624 Same, it really sucks though
>>1067624 Also if this is zoom then log onto matrix when you have time. No rush
>>1067627 I gotta do that darn it's been 3 months already
>>1067630 No worries, you're good.
