3D Printing Anonymous 02/16/2023 (Thu) 06:18:41 Id: 0ef303 No. 784384
A thread for anything related to 3D printing and video games: figurines, controller stands, battery covers that keep getting lost, cool cases, mods and enhancements, etcetera. What cool enhancements, whether practical or just aesthetic, should I print for my old consoles? Say, for example, my Sega Genesis model 2?
>>784405 I'm not even sure if you're talking about fuckin' video games any more. I don't get what you're saying.
>>784385 That looks like an even more ghetto version of the TEC-9. Also this isn't /k/, OP is talking about 3D printing things, not guns to add to vidya. You should make a thread for that though, we don't have an active /k/ here and it can be fun talking about the guns in gaming, both real and fake. It would probably turn into 70 IQ vatniks deepthroating Russia but what can you do
>>784385 Why not just remove the buffer tube and "stock" and turn it into a pistol instead of an ATK anal expansion lure? It'd look better too.
>>784436 Anon seriously, just make a thread for guns. Don't derail OP's thread just because you want to talk about one.
>>784438 Or just post on >>>/k/
>>784436 God how I hate the AR platform.
(25.29 KB 474x474 th-841781214.jpg)

>>784384 is ender 3 v2 a good option for small plastic jobs? I just want something cheap and maybe print once a month for fun
(131.68 KB 891x886 2023-02-16 at 14.09.47.jpeg)

>>784450 Yeah, that's exactly the one I just bought and tested, Cheap, but good enough. I just printed these two spooky things and they came out super good. If you's gonna use it for small jobs once in a while, I say go for this model.
>>784510 How's the quality of the make? Sturdy enough? And by the way, is there any resource, tutorial, book or anything else for someone who wants to learn the craft of making and printing items with one of those?
(7.08 KB 300x200 Chad Daddy.jpg)

OP, you should 3D print a Wii controller
(4.98 MB 2160x2700 Bayonetta004_Camera-32.png)

>>784520 >How's the quality of the make? Sturdy enough? Yeah. See the skull I printed? It's pretty darn solid. I probably did something wrong while setting up the file because it tool about 10 hours, and I know you can achieve the same quality in less than half that time, but I'm still learning. Next I wanna print me a Bayonetta. >is there any resource, tutorial, book or anything else for someone who wants to learn I'm sure there are, but I'm just asking my friends, who already have experience, how to do this. If you can't ask someone that already knows, then there must be tutorials and stuff. That's a good point, maybe someone could post here some basic tutorials?
>>784450 It's perfect for beginners.
What's a good resource for 3D printing models that are otherwise pay-2-use? Assuming that I am not a good 3D modeler and must use what other people create.
>>784583 >What's a good resource for 3D printing models that are otherwise pay-2-use? That's a good way to say "piracy". And yes, we need those resources. I guess there are MEGA links that those in the know have?
Is anyone interested in 3D printing a Sonic Man helmet? I got the model from a FFXV mod and was able to manifold the edges to make it 3D printable but I don't know shit about 3D modeling so you can see the faces when it's scaled up and printed at full size. I guess it's fine since I was just going to smooth it out and slush cast it but maybe there's a way to make the model higher detail so it comes out smoother. If anyone wants to take a whack at it I have the original model https://anonfiles.com/D9l97bY2yc/Sonic_Man_Helmet_obj as well as the one I worked on. https://anonfiles.com/fam274Y3ye/Anon_s_Sonic_Man_Helmet_obj I'm going to continue working on it but if there's anyone that might know how to make it look better I'd really appreciate the help.
>>784645 That's pretty good!

Check it, I just printed a battery cover for my old GBA. Now I can paint it and it'll look good. Not that I'll ever use it, but it's good to know it's not missing a part. Took the pictures before I cleaned the borders, because I think printed objects with the borders still on look kinda cute.
Resin printers are pretty good. Actual detail for 40k figurines that you've obtained full written permission to reproduce. The fumes are worth it. What's a bit of cancer if you already live in Ohio anyway?
>>784782 I've only seen one of them, and yes, the results are pretty amazing. But I don't know if they're for beginners, and most of us here seem to be that. >The fumes are worth it. What's a bit of cancer if you already live in Ohio anyway? Funny, but brings up a good point. Aren't resin printers a pain in general?
>>784790 Meh, beginners can do it. They just have to not be a retard. Watch a couple hours of videos on youtube, spend a bit of time understanding 3d software and that's about it. It's even easier if you join some normie tier group on facebook/telegram/discord whatever, where they have pre-prepped 3d files for resin builds.
>>784782 >The fumes are worth it. What's a bit of cancer if you already live in Ohio anyway? thats a quote worthy of resin printers.
(57.96 KB 800x700 Original-Onahole-Image-1.jpg)

Can you 3d print onaholes?
>>784884 Technically yes but it's a bad idea, sex toys are usually made out of silicone and most 3D printers use polylactic acid. PLA is not a material you can stick your dick in, it's hard and rigid. I suppose you print a mold to cast them out of, but it's cheaper and easier to buy just one. The only time it makes sense is if you're designing your own.
>>784887 Are there not exotic 3D printers that can work with other materials?
>>784916 >>784887 >>784884 You can 3D print meat.
>>785013 can I then fuck the meat?
>>784884 You can print them with your dick, if you're a special robot.
>>784884 https://ourobooru.booru.org/index.php?page=post&s=list&tags=fleshlight+%2Fmonster%2F&pid=0 An anon from /monster/ 3d printed a mold to make an onahole with.
I wanna print me a Samus. Anyone has a cool Samus STL?
>>784673 Thanks. It's still a work in progress but I plan on uploading it to Thingiverse when it's done. >>792691 I know a couple good helmet STLs but I don't have any full Samus models. Also, I uploaded a Moon Man model in the Streaming thread if anyone is interested. I've been meaning to print a Moon Man mask from the model but I'm too busy working on the Sonic Man helmet and a Zamorak Godsword to make one at the moment >>769755
>all STLs I find for Dragon Quest are slimes Why must life hate me so...
>>792707 Nietzchefags get what they deserve tbh
>>792707 >Dragon Quest Something like this?
>>792715 Neat. Although the "parts" makes me think it's a giant statue thing. Looking for a smaller size (or maybe I'll resize it and see if it works lol)
>>792719 >the "parts" makes me think it's a giant statue thing Yeah, it seems pretty big but you can re-size it. So, you want it? I deleted the file because I just downloaded it so I could show you, but I can download it again.
>>792723 Sure I'll take it. I'm finding it on those scammy sites that charge you money blah
>>792726 >those scammy sites that charge you money Well, the artist has a right to charge money for it. But since I downloaded it for free, I'll just ask for 15 dollars. I'll send you the link once the money has been transfered. Just kidding, I'll upload it for you. But, where can I upload it? catbox.moe is OK? The ZIP is 73,4 MB I don't know what the size limit is in catbox moe, but if this is too bit maybe I can upload the independent pieces there.
(110.00 KB 850x515 uploading.jpg)

OK, so, the max size is 200 MB. So the whole thing can be shared in one go. So, now we just wait...
>>792719 It's more likely broken into parts so you can print them individually in different colours, or paint them without worrying about getting paint on other pieces. Printing a single model that looks like it needs quite complicated supports also tends to not go well.
>>792767 Yeah I've not done a "large" print yet, but I've seen some do their own statues with that multi-part method and they turn out well. I'm just not interested in big prints t. dnd / miniature fag
(345.32 KB 431x846 moonman.PNG)

Keep a copy of the files and share them if someone requests. 2, Post pics of the model once you've printed it, and also pics of the process. We all will want to see it.
>>793871 You could try raising your hot end betetween180c- 220c and if your PLA filament out in room temp it will take on moisture. It looks like that's what's happening at the bottom section of his coat, tiny pockets and bubbles of steam would explain the pitting and poor surface quality.

You see how these particular models come with built-in supports? I think it's because they were made with resin 3d printers in mind. I'll be printing it with regular plastic. I don't need these supports, and they're only gonna get in the way. The worst part is, the system is makinf supports for the supports, which if I print will waste a lot of material and time, and also I wanna rotate the models freely. So, could someone please remove the supports? Or at least trim them so they're tiny?

I didn't notice how small this thing was before printing it. It didn't come out right. It's clearly for resin printers, or better printers than mine. Humble as it is, I've had good results with my printer, but not with models this small. So, I'll make it bigger and try again, but later. Or maybe I'll just buy a resin printer. I wanted to, anyway. Mostly because a friend of mine showed me how he prints in regular plastic the body of sculptures, and with resin he does the heads, hands, and whatever needs extra definition.

How much does it cost today to 3D print waifu figures? Ideally something big, not shitty 2 inch figures.
>>814264 A $300~$500 resin printer + the filament which can be anywhere from $40 a roll to $150 or more depending on the quality. But expect there to be many failed attempts getting the temperature and molding right
>>814480 >resin printer >roll FDM is the one that comes in rolls of weed wacker, resin is the one with bottles of liquid resin. But yeah you got the prices about right with resin printers. Also buy gloves, you do not want that liquid on your skin and fumes are allegedly more nasty than FDM printers.

>>818557 I'm not printing the lewd version, though. At least not for now. By the way, I downloaded this model of Alita (stl) and I wanna print it, but I'll be using a humble Ender 3 and this huge model comes in one piece. So I need to separate the parts. I tried to cut it into pieces but I can't. Blender freezes when I try, probably because it's a huge model. Could someone please cut it into separate STL files so I can print them one by one? Ideally with pegs and corresponding holes for easier and accurate assembling? Name of the model as I downloaded is Alita_Gunm_Battle_Angel and it's easy to find on Telegram. I tried to upload it to catbox.moe but couldn't. Thanks!
I love the body the artist gave her, even though Fio probably doesn't look like this in canon. Them's some nice legs right there. Printing the other leg as I type. I think this'll take me at least two days just to print, and then the treatment with sandpaper to the paint itself and is gonna be another couple of days.

Would someone with more experience than me with the Ender 3 and Ultimaker Cura help me with the head? For the base, legs, shorts and torso I've been using standard quality, which is fine, but for the head I want as much definition as I can get. How should I set it? Please tell me point by point how to set it perfectly so her head looks detailed and nice.

>>799622 finally got around to it. Haven't added the brick due to not being 100% happy with the paint job, but it's where it's at for now. Thanks again for the file
>>824989 Looks really good anon, especially good job with the texture of the stone mask and her hair. If I had any critiques it'd be the blue lines on Midna's body are kind of rough and so are the lines on Wolf Link's forehead but other than that you did well.
>>825016 Yeah the lines on midna needed a lighter blue. I ran out of some paints and couldn't made do, so I didn't fuss with it too much. Main reason the stones are not on yet. Harder to reach her with them. Yeah the forehead will probably get cleaned up too.
>>824989 >>825025 God damn, that's beautiful! I wanna print it, too. Would the effect be cool if the hair was printed using glow.in.the.dark orange? If you're still working on it, please share pics of the progress. Also, pretty please, someone help me with this? >>818602
>>826499 Or you can get a better effect with transparent material and a small LED inside.
(129.67 KB 1200x1600 Image 2023-05-12 at 20.17.21.jpeg)

>>826585 Sounds like a cool idea but I'm still pretty new at this, so before I do fancy things such as using electric lights I wanna get used to the basics. By the way I printed Midna's body, and it came out pretty nice. Had to alter the size so I guestimated it, and I think the size is pretty acceptable. Midna is very cute.
dawg that is that
>>826764 what the fuck is that
I can't really tell from the pic and the color. How'd the PLA handle all the little raise sections and tattoos on the enlarged version? When straight to resin personally, so no clue how well standard printers do.
>>827171 I fucked a few hours ago, so I'm all serene and calm and I find that video cute instead of hot, Maybe tomorrow I'll see it and feel totally horny. >A lot of Indian women have those proportions I bet, and I bet lost of them are cute, but I prefer this kind of body in fantasy. In real life, I won't say I'd kick them off my bed, but it's far from my favorite type. What's she saying, by the way? I like her attitude. >>827144 >How'd the PLA handle all the little raise sections and tattoos on the enlarged version? Considering I'm using a basic Ender 3, I'd say it handles the tattoos pretty well! Now that I applied a primer there's more definition in the photo, so here. Can you see? I'm sure a resin printer (or a better PLA printer) would work even better with these kind of detail; but I think mine looks pretty good. Here, with and without flash. I printed the hair in parts, because I made the model big. It's why you can see in the photo her hair is incomplete. And speaking of cutting figures into segments >>818602 Pretty please, could someone help me with this?
With the hair (again, I printed it by parts) it came out pretty big. Over 29 cm, about 11.5 inches. I'm pretty happy about how it's going. I hope I can paint it beautifully. Oh, and I happen to have semi-transparent orange PLA, so if I print another one, maybe I will try to put a LED light inside. >>824989 How big is yours, compared to mine?
>>827405 >semi-transparent I almost feel if the best way with Midna would be to make her completely out of translucent material and then cover her non glowing parts with an opaque paint.
>>827621 >make her completely out of translucent material and then cover her non glowing parts with an opaque paint Hey, that really sounds like it could work! Could be the best effect for Midna, but it would probably be a lot of effort. The one I'm making now won't have any fancy effects, just paint and maybe some of the paint will be glow-in-the-dark (if Ican find any) for the glowing details. But after that, I'll try to print a new one with a light inside the hair. Let's hope it works. But although the one I'm making now isn't gonna have fancy visual effects, it will have sound effects. I don't know how, but something came loose during the process, so it came out with a rattle because whatever broke off is still inside. Should I try to get it out?
How toxic are the fumes of resin printers?
>>845989 bad enough that most people have vents leading to a window or have in an enclosure with a carbon filter inside of a separate room.
>>845989 safety information from one i've used in the past
The paint I bought was too low quality so I was getting frustrated because it wasn't working. I wanted to paint the whole thing by the actual colors, but that wasn't working. Since I wanted to see it put together, I just glued these parts in place and bought silver spray paint, and painted the whole thing solid silver. It's not what I originally wanted, but I can always print another one when I have more practice and better materials. The thing is, practice is important, and working on these pieces has taught me lots even though the final result it's not exactly what I had in mind. Still I need to print a couple of cubes, which you can see are missing. The whole thing is pretty darn big. Looks pretty good, I think. What do you think?
>>857255 >didn't even slapchop does the creative bankruptcy of 8moe know no bounds?
>>857255 Oh you know what would have been really neat? Electroplating it. Like those people who make custom Legos.
>>857273 >Electroplating That would be seriously cool. Specially for pieces that need to look metallic and vibrant, like armor and such. Any video showing the basics, pelase? >>857269 Well, as I said I just anted to see it put together. Considering the paintjob was the result of me saying "aw fuck it" I think it's OK. As I said, I can print another one later and this time paint it with the proper colors and do everything right, using what I learned with this one.
>>857287 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoJkduIoBF0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8m1kYK_U66I Apparently the process is not as complex as I thought it was.
>>857299 Amazing results, and legitimately fascinating as a process. I totally wanna do it one day, specially with projects such as Samus with her cool armor, and other things that would look awesome with proper metal layers. >the process is not as complex as I thought it was Still pretty complex, though. For now I couldn't justify such a setup, but hopefully one day...
>>857395 You could always try the ghetto version that I did as a kid with a 12 volt lantern battery. Electrolyte solutions aren't particularly difficult to make and copper is relatively cheap. You could get a little practice in that way anyway.
>>857414 You know what? I can't say no to that. Have any video tutorial that shows how to do it ghetto style?
>>857440 Here's a basic tutorial that I found that is basically the same thing I did when i was a kid. I would suggest using batteries instead of nigger rigging plugged in power supplies for obvious safety reasons. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-PtnwtOR24
>>857618 That's pretty cool. I may be able to try it before I thought I would.
>No big tiddie lolis shameful anons.
>>860202 Well, do you have any particular 3D models in mind? Video game related, of course. Also, anyone has good Mario models?
>want to buy a 3D printer that's currently on sale >on top of the sale there's an offer of 2kg free filament >but the filament is out of stock in the closest warehouse and they don't let you order from a more distant one >I have to choose between ordering the printer without the free filament, or waiting and just hoping it comes back in stock before the offer expires, at the risk of missing the sale I hate it. If it were just the sale I'd already have bought the thing and been content with the price, but knowing the filament offer exists would make ordering without feel like throwing away $40.

Does anyone print anything besides fapfigurines? I make miniatures for /tg/ pursuits not very high quality because I only have FDM and some practical things. Last major print was parts for a ghetto AR headset. >>784774 Nice, I need to see if anyone's modeled up a drive bay cover for my old laptop. If you're having trouble with bed adhesion I recommend an enclosure. You can use a big cardboard box if you're on a poverty budget, just don't leave it running unattended. I stopped using brims after I made one and just print skirts to wipe the nozzle.
>>862758 If I had a printer I'd probably print shit like mouse shells and keyboard cases.
>>862758 There's a bunch of minor household things I'd make, like organizer drawers to store screws, resistors, and so on that are designed to fit my existing shelves instead of just buying pre-made ones and hoping they fit. I want to grab a bunch of Arduinos with various sensors and other modules for local "IoT" equivalent stuff like temperatures (inside and outside) or a door camera, but without being pozzed by Amazon or Google, and I'd print cases for those. I also want to try handwiring custom keyboards, and would be printing cases and plates.
>>862729 >You guys are going to become plastic hoarder >going to become That's cute. >>862725 Fuckin catch 22. I feel your pain.
>>862729 You're going to become a retard. Oops, too late.
Friendly reminder to check your extruder if your prints aren't coming out correct. Mine broke at the same time I started using a new brand of PLA so I wasted about two weeks troubleshooting if the PLA was the problem. I don't know why the hell they wouldn't make the extruder metal right out of the box, having something that's under constant presser be made of plastic is just asking for it to break. It's a $10 part and really quick to replace so I'm not that bent out of shape about it, I just wish I figured it out sooner. >>792798 Sick. You should print smaller pieces like his glasses, hands, and gun as separate parts so they'll come out smoother.

>>862729 Shit, that's too bad, What did you do at the end? What choice did you make? Also, I printed this cute little Mario, which still needs to be sanded and hit with primer, but I have become obessed with the idea of electroplating! I wanna electroplate! I wanna electroplate! I wanna do electroplating at night and day! But I don't know where to buy conductive paint in my country, and I'm not finding this particular brand (which seems to be highly reccomended) in any site that exports to South America. Any help, please? Help me find this paint or one that is equivalent in quality?
>>864721 >Shit, that's too bad, What did you do at the end? What choice did you make? If this was meant for >>862725 the answer is that I ended up borrowing someone's Amazon Business account, since it had an additional discount compared to the manufacturer's website.
Since I haven't been able to find conductive paint locally, someone suggested I should make my own: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoB2ZQ-jFwA Basically, acrylic paint mixed with graphite powder. Right? You think it'll work for electroplating?
>>862725 It could be trash filament that you'll want to chuck anyway, depending on what kind of printing you'll be doing. >>865780 Probably?
>first print: the two interlocking parts fit perfectly, but a non-printed part I had to buy is slightly out of spec and doesn't fit >tweak the design to accommodate it, and make a few other adjustments to strengthen some areas that turned out too weak >second print: I'm a fucking idiot and forgot to make sure each side's changes lined up with the other side >also there's some minor imperfections, so I spend a couple hours calibrating the printer until all my tests come out perfect >third print: everything is fucked, the calibration that worked for the tests is suddenly wildly wrong >all my holes are printer smaller than they used to be so nothing fits, and the nozzle is gouging into the layers it just put down every time it traverses to a new area of the print, leaving massive scars >test prints still show it working so I basically have to guess my way through yet more calibration >also tried reverting to the first print's settings, but that fourth attempt was so awful I stopped it after the first layer and went back to tweaking the newer settings >fifth print: no longer leaving huge gouges and most of the holes work, but still some marks, and it's an incredibly tight fit since everything is still too big, and for some spaces I have to hack it wider with a knife 150g of filament later and the very first attempt remains the best. Fuck.

Meanwhile, when I decided to take a break from trying to figure out why my main model was being a fuck, I decided to try the "fuzzy" mode Cura offers to see what that does. Grabbed a dog model off Thingiverse or some similar site since that seemed like a suitable subject. I tried running it both with and without. It looks better in-person than in the photos, but it's not great. On the broad areas like the back it works, and helps to hide imperfections, but on the face it just looks wrong. Maybe it'd be better if the model were significantly larger.
>>869986 That sucks, it's hard to diagnose but it could be something like tweaking your feed and retraction settings on a pyramid stringing test stl or making sure your vertical axis stepper motor isn't overheating. Hell I printed a filament guide once and didn't realize the friction was making my extruder motor slip and gnaw into the filament.
What's fuzzy mode? What's the expected result?
>>870426 Looks like it made the dog fuzzy.
>>870426 Are you blind or just retarded?
OK, I bought graphite powder, Damn, is this thing fine and light! This powder gets everywhere, so I'll be extra careful. So, since I couldn't find conductive paint for electroplating plastic, I'll experiment with this. I'll start by mixing graphite with acrylic paint, and taste the conductivity on a piece of paper.

Because if it's super cheap, then it KINDA makes sense. Except it doesn't, because if I pay 1 dollar for it, it'll be most likely a wasted dollar. Why not just buy a controller?
>>872003 SMDs are a pain to solder at the best of times and those tiny little chips in the bottom corners look like they'd be a nightmare. >>872196 >What sense does that make? 3D print the case, solder components to the PCB. Seems pretty obvious to me.
>>872243 You can order the PCB with the SMD components soldered on it. >>872003 >5 PCBs with pre-soldered SMD components is 80 USD (including my shipping) >would still have to 3D print the case and solder the rest of the components Even ignoring my personal opinion of the controller, that still sounds like a retarded waste of time and money.
>>872249 I overlooked the fact that you also have to buy the rest of the components you need to solder. The components, which includes a Raspberry Pi Pico, for all 5 PCBs amounts to another 110 USD without any shipping.
OP here again, this time with a practical issue: I bought a Super Scope, works percectly but came without the battery cover. I downloaded the 3D model for the replacement, which you can find here: https://files.catbox.moe/wy8bz1.stl But this model is tiny. Tiny! I don't know what's wrong ecactly, but my printer prints it super tiny. Could someone pleaseresize it for me? It should be 3.3 cm wide.

>>914395 Yeah, later that week, I just neglected to follow up here. I don't remember what ended up working but it soon came out fine, and I've had no trouble with PLA since. But it has sat on the shelf since I finished it, since I never ended up learning Colemak. I ought to change it back to qwerty.
>>914410 That's really neat Do you have specific resources you could share?
>>914422 For the firmware, as well as how to go about wiring it, I basically just followed the QMK docs, as well as the handwiring guides it links to: https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/blob/master/docs/hand_wire.md I used keyboard-layout-editor.com to plan the layout, both physically and the different layers' keybinds, then I just recreated it in FreeCAD for the switch mounting plate. I had to split it in half to fit on my print bed; it's hard to see in the photo, but between the B, J, and G keys, and between the two spacebars, you can see the seam between the two halves is interrupted by puzzle-piece-like cutouts and overlaps. Then I made a basic case to mount it all in. The other components (switches, keycaps, microcontroller) were bought off AliExpress. The firmware is fairly straightforward if you borrow an existing board from the repo to work off of. It was a neat learning experience. Not a great result, since I realized after starting that my nice wiring plan was not so nice when I had to actually route and solder real wires, which were also thicker than I had expected when I ordered the spools. But it was fun to figure things out.
Vase mode (the "spiralize outer contours" setting in Cura) is wild. When printing in that mode you can literally tell the slicer to pretend your nozzle is more than double its physical diameter, and it will actually work. As a test I just printed a cube with walls 1mm thick, in a single perimeter, using a 0.4mm nozzle. The setting is only useful for specific types of model, but when it works it works surprisingly well.

Sounds like science fiction to me but maybe it does exist.
>>937217 >is there some 3D scanning tool which will, like a 2D scanner, capture a model of whatever 3D object you put inside it? Yes, 3D scanners exist.

>>937280 Does that work well?
>>937217 >is there some 3D scanning tool which will, like a 2D scanner, capture a model of whatever 3D object you put inside it? Do you have an Xbox 360 Kinect? There's a program called Skanect that will let you do exactly that. It's not a free program but torrents for cracked versions are easy to find. If you put whatever you want to scan on a spinning platform like >>937280 then you will have an easier time making a 3D model out of it, otherwise you'll have to manually move the camera or object.
>>784384 Is there any software that tells you whether a model you have made or imported will stand on its own feet/give accurate predictions of the centers of mass of a figure before printing it?
>>949291 I know of Solidworks, but it's proprietary software-as-a-service subscription crap. The software itself is supposedly good but I always avoid anything using that business model.
I recently bought a 12k resin printer (Saturn) since I wasn't able to get satisfying results casting epoxy keycaps for my custom split keyboard. I'm really surprised with the print quality. These are old pics where I was trying out various ways to fill out the key legends (paint, colored wax, play-doh), turns out the best way is with play-doh, although it can stain the keycaps and you need to sand them a bit.

Are 3d printers capable of producing stuff similar to this?
>>950056 Yes, resin printers are extremely good at details and wouldn't have any problems printing any of the pictures you posted, depending on the scale you might have to print the model in multiple separate parts and join them. They're also cheap and easy to use, the cleanup process is a chore though. Depending on the resin you're going to use it might get a little expensive. At most you'll have to sand your models a bit due to supports. Regular 3d printers are also getting very good, they're more expensive and you have to fiddle with them a lot more to get good results, but they're very low-res compared to resin printers.
>>950067 Forgot to mention, resin is very brittle compared to PLA or any other material that regular 3d printers use.
>>950073 >>950067 >>950056 The future is now!
>>949391 Be careful with resin-printed keycaps. Prolonged skin contact isn't great with some blends. Depending on the resin, skin exposure can cause irritation, and you get increasingly sensitized to it over time. You can essentially develop an allergy to it through overexposure.
>>950098 Oh shit, didn't know that, thanks. I'm using elegoo white, maybe I should add a few coats of nail polish or varnish.
>>950067 >>950073 Would it be worth it to use a resin printer to make a master mold so that you could have the definition of resin printing and the resilience of what ever material you used make the final product from?
>>950103 Sure, but molding and casting is anything but simple. If you're doing jewelry or small details, you'll need a pressure pot or/and a vacuum chamber. I tried doing epoxy keycaps and was plagued with inconsistent mixing, air bubbles (even after using a vacuum chamber before pouring and with the mold inside of it) and just very low quality results. Maybe I'm retarded, maybe you'll get better results for what you're planning to do, but it's almost a guarantee that you'll have to spend a reasonable amount of money on a good pressure/vacuum chamber.
>>950103 You could also try injection molding with resin printed molds, but that's another rabbit hole full of problems, nowadays it's cheaper thanks to some tabletop solutions, but you can only do small models.

>>963995 >flat thing gets dunked into vat of plastigoop <??? >models materialize on flat thing How the fuck does this kind of printer work?
>>978988 The goop is bombarded by UV light, layer by layer, and the light turns it immediately solid. I think that's basically how it works. A ray of light is used to draw each layer, and that makes the 3D object.

>>1031410 Tree supports for starters probably. Have you printed other things out to understand your filament better such as minimum layer time?
>>1031430 >Tree supports for starters Like this? >Have you printed other things out to understand your filament better such as minimum layer time? I have printed plenty of things, but I always had my sister to do this part for me, so I never truly learned.
>>1031435 I don't really have tutorials saved and haven't touched mine in 2 years, but minimum layer time should help when barely any material is extruded and it isn't solid yet. The individual layer render and enabling supports/viewing supports should help adjust supports but I don't remember anything else, just that supports are needed to lay the material on top of and it should be thin where it makes contact so you can snap it off.
>>1031439 Well, I tried to learn this on my own and I think I got it more or less right. Correct me where you think I went retarded. I'll try printing it like this. If you wanna try the exact GCODE file I made with these parameters, here it is: https://files.catbox.moe/u47ovx.gcode
>>1031537 Did you buy the model or got it for free? In general you guys buy them
>>1031537 Your settings are fine, but you kept the model too tiny. It's likely made more for a resine printer, because with PLA it's too little to have good definition. I was printing the file as you shared it and it's so small it broke off the plate because it had no surface (here's her boot). You could use PLA for that model, but you'll have to make it bigger.
