>>6669 Can't find the Miiverse post in which they make a callback to the meme.
>>6636 >>6669 Could Punchout get made today? Every character's a national stereotype.
>>6685 That was exactly why ARMS got conceived instead of Punch Out despite the buttplugs being the new wiimote with nunchucks, all this time they could've made a sequel or a miserable HD remaster but instead they shit out a mediocre shovelware gimmicky game that not even in Super Smash couldn't put it in a high pedestal unlike Persona or Minecraft, fucking Sans costume was much more of a highlight than all of ARMS.
>>6685 Probably not. The national stereotypes aren't even that offensive or outrageous, especially since Punch Out is meant to be a bit silly. For example, Piston Hondo. A headband-wearing fighter from Japan who says Japanese phrases and bows is far from a unique character design. He is a respectful fighter who lives by honor, though. The game never makes an attempt to taunt him or his culture. Disco Kid may be a dancing black guy, but that's really it, it's clear that he just genuinely enjoys dancing and it is a part of his culture back home. The only reason he is black is because he is probably based on another black character from older titles, and to make the game feel more like a world-wide boxing championship. But with how vidya publishers/devs seem to be afraid to angering that tiny minority of people who get offended at anything, there might not be anyone brave enough to make another Punch Out. Not to mention how these companies might worry about violating their DEI policies too.
>>6692 Wii Punch-Out got more offensive and outrageous with the stereotypes, especially in the animations. Still, the stereotypes aren't that offensive or outrageous. People get outraged easy, so people would still get outraged today. For ARMS, 1-Player in Punch-Out's better than 1-Player in ARMS, but ARMS shines in Multi-Player. It's a friends game, and if the shitposter makes those, it should dampen his anger. And had he tried ARMS, he'd know the gimmick's optional. ARMS is playable with a Pro Controller. It has official competitive events and a deep meta. It's not some game of the year or something, but a good experience with more family fun than AAA.
Do goblins and witches count as Jewish stereotypes? Hogwarts Legacy caught shit for goblin bankers.
