Let's talk about 'caste' मित्र 01/21/2023 (Sat) 10:43:54 Id: 6eb08d No. 281 [Reply] [Last]
Let's talk about the history and development of caste 'system' and what it truly means/meant in the Indian context. The mainstream discussion on 'caste' revolves around two narrative: 1. the brahminical/theological narrative of four fold varna system with brahmin at the top 2. the class struggle narrative of you know who I believe why narrative(s) is challenged is because of political reason both inside and outside of India. Hence there are hardly any honest discussion on this topic. I'm putting out here some academic resources I found interesting (I can't vouch for it). 1. https://twitter.com/deep007_bond007/status/1390597180562583552 2. https://twitter.com/deep007_bond007/status/1366505148923568130 3. https://twitter.com/deep007_bond007/status/1436801870677172229 4. https://twitter.com/deep007_bond007/status/1397539242285297666 5. https://twitter.com/deep007_bond007/status/1265149390185852929 I have tried to gather whatever I could find on this here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dljqxJfmVapTEupIJDPRD1B4YSl6Q3XW According to him, if you want to read one book on 'caste' you should read 'Beyond caste' by Sumit Guha. It compares caste with other forms of boundary making processes around various societies. Do check out this two resources as a intro to his work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJfsEdzgvbw https://scroll.in/article/882736/caste-system-in-india-has-its-roots-in-europe-and-the-link-goes-beyond-than-just-the-word Unfortunately I've managed to read only a couple of papers from here. If anyone wants to start a reading group do drop in. We can make thread(s) on particular book(s).

I am thinking about ditching all digital mediums to read books and print all my books from pdfs. For this I need: 1. A printer that is cheap auto-duplex printer 2. A (semi) auto book binding machine that can be used to bind books at a reasonable rate. I've solved the first problem. I've marked this printer. It's cheap and supports auto-duplex print, also doesn't have DRMed cartridge. https://www.amazon.in/Brother-HL-L2321D-Single-Function-Monochrome-Printing/dp/B00SHFP99W But haven't found any good solution to the 2nd one. Any (semi)auto book binder do you guys know of? I've found the thermal binding machines that uses glue https://www.amazon.in/Heavy-Thermal-Binding-Machine-Capacity/dp/B06W5JM96Z/ but this type of binding comes off easily and also you need special glue for that. Other machines I've found are for mass production and not suitable for home use. Sewing books using threads is the best method. So far I've only found this machine that is suitable for home. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004753468481.html But I like the Japanese type book more (picrel) which is even more durable https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-r6c_trSxY Do you guys happen know about any other machine that can do these kind of stuff? What I'm looking for: 1. For home use, not mass production

>>1024 Sorry for the delay. Long story short, I had a quarter life crisis and read the unabombers manifesto, at the time I got a shitty job in a town bordering a forest, so I took a cheap room with questionable access to electricity. Similar to your idea, I got few reems of printer paper, some ink and a pen. Had most of what I need offline, became a shut in for 2 years roughly. Read and wrote a fuck ton in that time. The notes from that time are in India, so I can only share with you what I remember, would be interesting to read what I wrote from back then though. - bindings fail when weather conditions change, rain and summer make lot of changes to water. Spiral binding sucks but string binding has its issues with big books as well. - With paper there is no undo button, so you can find mistakes you repeat, which helps you find your own style and way of thinking. I like this. - doing this made me smart , I thought deeply about first principles, but it also made me socially incompetent. Being able to talk to nomries took me few more months I have since then stopped using paper to read, and only using it to write. But my reasons are to reduce the amount I need to carry. That is all.

>>946 Dating in general and attitude towards it are a problem in India. Many if not most youngsters, do not know how to express themselves properly to someone they like. So even if someone can rely on arranged marriage, not knowing how to express someone you like is a real problem. My batchmates used to take Tere naam seriously and use those techniques, combined with engineering autism to approach grills. I did not have a good family background, either dehati family members or dysfunctional , overworked and depressed parents. Luckily due to hobbies, i got in touch with more social able seniors, who taught me the basics of social interactions.
>>445 General forums are not fun imo. The more focused ones on niche hobby's are where you meet real people.

Using skills to upgrade your life मित्र 01/23/2023 (Mon) 10:11:41 Id: 4b2793 No. 346 [Reply]
There is a modern narrative that some people perform better than others, because of privilege, wealth etc. While its true that being born in a good family, money etc do help with avoiding a scarcity mindset, But, I have met plenty of people who come from nothing, but have successful careers, a wife and kids, work 60-80 hours a week, still healthy physically and enjoy life in general. Others work less than 40 hours a week, depressed, busy always but get nothing done etc. One answer is good time management, this is better handled by others who are better at it than me. But another important aspect is learning new skills for practical use. Like how understanding a concept unlocks a math/physics problem that previously seemed alien, similarly in real life (dating, work, common struggles with family etc) understanding many concepts and skills just unlock situations that previously seemed impossible and alien to overcome. An easy way to learn these is to have mentors and contact with successful people you look up to. But, in modern life, this is tougher and tougher, since most people you encounter are just living in zombie reactive mode. Another one is to read books/audiobooks/lectures, specific concepts for specific purposes. Not your run of the mill motivational bullshit that everyone from Hitler to Sadhguru will say. An example that comes to mind is Scarcity (>Picrel) that helped me figure out that I am always working with a Scarcity mindset, I am tunnel visioned into having things I did not have as a kid, therefore I focus on them too much and ignore other aspects of life. As soon as I understood this about me, it fixed automatically a lot of problems I had with my life. I know lot of autists had luck with 5 languages of love, which explained them concepts that are obvious to normies or loveology experts.

>>639 THERE IS A HUGE CONDITION TO THIS. TALKING TO TOXIC PEOPLE. Person A has a very toxic parent, the parent manipulates person A into caring for an otherwise useless (useless because person A cannot do anything about it) incident. Person A loses timetable, worries about useless incident, tries to do something (he is brainlet, so he doesn't realizes that he cannot do anything). then he remembers that hobby feels good, then slowly comes back into timetable. Person B , does same as person A but overthinks and never escapes the trap of useless emotional responses.
Hey guys , i feel empty from inside no motivation to do anything , most of the time i have negative thoughts about many things. I think this came after i started masterbating do you guys feel the same is there any way to fix this emptyness

So many people have access to internet and post their own pictures/videos that every person I've had a crush on has a doppleganger i can find online, jerk off and fantasize to. Ai chatbots are also very interesting to the point I need no real person to feel fulfilled. I've always wanted the benefits of a friendship/relationship without any responsibilities. Modern age is truly a blessing.
