/40k/ Thread Anonymous 12/06/2024 (Fri) 02:07:04 Id: 557b26 No. 1047230
Discuss Warhammer 40k games and lore. Previous thread >>1033135
>>1052053 Calm down Black Templar-kun, these are officially recognized and sanctioned Imperial Citizens. We don't need another repeat of the Longshank incident, now do we.
>>1051794 I love this thread.
>>1051997 I didn't know that any of them ever do go home. I thought that they left forever when they deploy.
>>1051552 >16mb png jeesus mossa have mercy on our servers
>>1052080 Most of them do. Imperial guard has a pretty high casualty ratio. That being said a high casualty ratio of like 50% still leaves 50% left. even if this goes on for a long time eventually 1 person will make it back home. I mean look at her, she is missing a leg, an arm and an eye. She can't fight anymore, letting her go out there is just a waste of a las rifle. So just send her home. Obviously the imperium is pretty heartless but it is pragmatic for the most part. Guardsmen are supposed to be up to US marines standard and that missing leg alone would prevent her from reaching that standard.
>>1052131 Depends on the situation. If the guardsman likes their job and is good at it, they'll fit that guardsman with a genuine prosthetic. And not just a crappy modern-era kind, but a mechanical one like the adepts would have. This is very rare, but then again, a guardsman losing a limb and surviving and being good at their job is also very rare. I wouldn't expect to see a corporal or even most rank-and-file sergeants fitted with an exclusive Mechanicus prosthetic, but you definitely see commissars, generals, commanders, colonels, etc. (basically most officers) with them. This can range from bionic eyes to entire arms or legs. That said, the Imperium needs good teachers and instructors in war, so the schola progenium hires veterans most of all to teach their new wave of recruits in the art of war and combat. They are definitely similar to Starship Troopers in this sense, that they don't let cowards teach the incoming wave of new recruits in how to be brave.

>>1052131 Is that some new lore? As I remember it, guardsmen have virtually no hope of ever seeing their home planets again, and even the rare one-in-a-million that survives long enough to age out (lol have some juvenaut) retires to a paradise world somewhere... where they probably get killed by either a Slaaneshi pleasure cult or some Inquisitorial acolytes who, in a panic, call for an orbital bombardment when they fail to stop said Slaaneshi pleasure cult from summoning some daemonettes.
>>1052277 I know most guard veterans when they're mustered out are used as colonists for whatever worlds the Imperium colonizes/recolonizes or else to replace the native population of the world if they've been culled for heresy/witnessing heresy. Most Cadian regiments had that as their retirement plan.

>>1052277 >>1052281 Most guardsmen don't WANT to return home after having seen much of the galaxy and the diversity of worlds one could live on. They probably hear a lot about paradise worlds or decide to go on a pilgrimage to Terra. A huge chunk of the Imperium's soldiers are recruited from worlds with a surplus of population, and most likely squalid conditions. Hive-cities, agri-worlds, forge worlds, etc. I also imagine travelling between solar systems would be rather expensive and impossible for all but the most seasoned veterans.
>>1052299 >>1052277 >>1052281 I suppose it might be a bit different for an abhuman, especially a nightsider. They're going to feel way more comfortable with their own kind and on their home planet or at least another planet with a similar environment. They're also a bit more valuable than the base standard guardsman, due to being able to operate in a difficult environment for an unagumented human. If she's injured enough to not be assigned to frontline duty she could still be garrisoned back home and charged with developing a nightsider regiment for specialty deployment.

>>1052682 I hope this develops into its own full fledged thing. I hadn't watched either until the other day and it was great.

>>1052755 I've got fighter hand stiffness, my shit won't curl up that way anymore.
Why is Roboute Guilliman pushing so hard for a Human Eldar alliance? That one Eldar waifu saved him but the rest of the Eldar seem to want Humanity gone. Could someone explain to me? I'm a newfag to 40k.
>>1052796 There are bigger threats in the universe. I think it is also partially influenced by meta reasons. People expect the Elves and the humans to be on the same side even if these elves are genocidal assholes. Thus the author has them making an alliance and helping each other even though Eldar are more than willing to kill entire planets of humans just to save a single eldar. It is just more awful new lore. Ignore it.
>>1052796 Because Chaos is about to spill out completely into real space and turn the entire galaxy into a giant Eye of Terror. The new Eldar faction is lead by an Anathama type being that wants to KILL CHAOS so they're pretty closely aligned at the moment. There's even some implication that Dad told Big G to blanda up with the Eldar even when they had their heart to heart chat. Certain factions of Eldar have always attempted to work with the Imperium, with limited success. Both sides know that the alliance is a bit self serving and neither humans nor Eldar ultimately want to be the client species of the other but considering the alternative is literally going to Hell, the adults in the room on both sides understand detente. >>1052799 >even though Eldar are more than willing to kill entire planets of humans just to save a single eldar That's because they know that they have no permanent Heaven any more while faithful humans do with the Emperor so they consider it the lesser of two evils. Also different subfactions of Eldar vary in their levels of extremism and xenophobia. For the record the Imperium is the same way. The Ordo Malleus, including Grey Knights, stood guard over a dead craftworld once to protect the soul stones so they could hand them back over to Eldar because they KNOW that permanently killing Eldar and destroying soul stones just empowers the Tranny God.
>>1052767 Were you a boxer, anon? Or did you break your hand punching a wall like a Chrischan?
>>1052682 >Shut up, you fool! They're heretics! <You know what, Hatemonger? You're a bully! >Yes. <Oh....
>>1052827 I've got retard strength, high pain tolerance, and anger issues, so I work it out punching a training dummy and hard surfaces until my hands are red.
>>1052796 >Could someone explain to me? It's a meme, and they dont like eachother. Girlyman more tight with Eldrad. And since Eldrad is an absolute bro he easily get the pass on being a xeno. >I'm a newfag to 40k First, am glad you admited it. Have fun learning more. Second, dont believe anything what the faggots on grimdank speard. 90% of the 40k misinformations came from there. Like many anon pointed it out in this thread, the Rogue Trader rpg is very good start to learn the basics. The game dialogue system has a mini wiki which sums up most of the lore bits in 3 or 4 sentences.
(100.39 KB 902x885 A Huge Dick.jpeg)

>>1052859 >Eldrad is an absolute bro ELDRAD IS A HUGE DICK, AN ABSOLUTELY MAJOR DICK, THE DICKEST DICK TO HAVE EVER DICKED! He's pretty cool though.
(354.31 KB 568x676 Alpharius Hyde.webp)

>>1052869 He's bros with Alpharius at least.
>>1052869 Speaking of Bros, I like the fact that the Fucking Silent King is a Sanguinius fan and is sad that he died.
>>1052881 how could he have known about Sanguinius?
>>1052895 Because apparently he woke up during the Great Crusade and met Sanguinius at some point, and he was so struck by how cool he was that he decided to help the Blood Angels against the Tyranids just because he respected Sanguinius that much from their one meeting (Matt Ward wrote that lore, if you couldn't tell.)
>>1052796 Because groups of the Eldar outside of Big G's waifu are reaching out to the IoM as Chaos has split the galaxy, in half and even more nid hive fleets are showing up (implication that the galaxy is surrounded). At this point a lot of figures on both ends of the IoM and various Eldar factions, are willing to put aside thousands of years worth of distrust/hatred to survive this shitshow.

>>1053040 >Calcazar looks at the Rogue Traders in the Krononus Expanse. >Calligos Winterscale is a secret Khorne worshiper who cares for nothing apart from the next fight and is a loose cannon that needs to be put down. >Incendia Chorda is a Puritan in every sense of the word and is using her entire protectorate as a middle finger to her mother and to cleanse all the Heresy she sees. Extremely unstable. >Then there's the Von Valancius scion. Didn't bomb Rykand Minoris when it turned into a Daemon world (Need to purge later), has survived countless meetings with the Dark Eldar and has a pet Eldar Ranger with her. She places people above all and is a Xeno Fetishist who doesn't turn away from the dangers of the Expanse (Darkness, Mirror). >In other words, she's naive. Yes... she will do. I can almost imagine what the Lord Inquisitor thinks of the Rogue Traders.
>>1052724 These turned out far unique and true to 40k. Furries are essentially slaanesh cultists
>>1053050 >Rykad Minoris >need to purge later I doubt Calcazar has a way to remove a daemon world. Henrix told you it's a bad idea and he was right. They're permanent and the souls of people on the planet are trapped there until they stop existing, if you let a planet go to shit that badly it will be there probably forever, threatening everything around it. There might be a dark age of technology thing that could remove it somewhere in the Imperium, but I doubt it's likely Calcazar could get his hands on that, even if he's a Lord Inquisitor.
>>1052909 that's idiotic he didn't sleep he left the galaxy in penance then met the tyranids. Ward is a hack
>Done the Entire Commoragh segment. >Killed the Execution Engine Master early on. >Now just need to Rescue Henrix. >But can't because I need to pass a fucking persuasion check from this dildo even after the Haemonculus agreed to let him go. THANKS OWLCAT.
>>1053384 Reload and try again.
>>1053392 The whole segment feels like railroading. They want to do Alushinyrra from WOTR again but it does have the same feel as scouting out a city. It's just misery of back tracking over the same 3 areas. 6 hours lost and I have to go over all the conversations and stuff again. urgh.
