/40k/ Thread Anonymous 12/06/2024 (Fri) 02:07:04 Id: 557b26 No. 1047230
Discuss Warhammer 40k games and lore. Previous thread >>1033135
>>1047230 Got RT while on sale and was wondering if the system is based off an existing one?
>>1047238 Owlcat used the Warhammer 40k roleplaying system which is a d10 based system.
>>1047242 Sooooo wrath and glory or FFG?
>>1047243 FFG's Rogue Trader variant of the system.
Is votann still a strong army? I haven't followed balance news since this time last year.
>>1047253 I'm unsure as I've not checked myself.
(413.57 KB 240x240 Nova bored.gif)

>Waiting for the 1.3 patch.
>>1047167 ah, good to know, sorry
Who is your all-time favorite Inquisitor, and why is he Castus Grendel?
>>1047313 >Grendel Grendel was just an acolyte (and officially mentioned in the Dark Heresy sourcebook he was being investigated for suspected chaos collusion involving the intervention of a certain secret Khornate Sister of Battle)
(1.06 MB 1829x1612 Erebus0001.jpg)

How the fuck did Erebus hide his Chaos power level from everybody for so long? Even the Emperor? Is he just so evil that good beings just can't sense him?
>>1047316 Nobody knew what the warp was besides maybe 2 other primarchs and a few close to the emperor, his demon summoning stuff happened mostly where there were no psykers to notice, and the emperor wasn't omniscient or else he would have known about horus. Even 10k years later it's hard to spot someone possessed without either a psyker or visible deformities.
(185.96 KB 767x1251 Kharn-bloodied.jpg)

>>1047316 GOD I FUCKING HATE EREBUS
>>1047316 When a man has greek alphabet as a fucking tattoo on his face you know he's some tough psycho. >>1047322 Some things better not be reuploaded.
>>1047316 He wanted to surprise big daddy.
>>1047251 Dark Heresy was fun.
>>1047382 Wait till your heresy gets "yellower than black".
>>1047316 The Horus Heresy was a fucking mistake, over explaining and making it up as they go, and character assassinating the Emperor and going all "LOL IN UNIVERSE PROPAGANDA!"
>>1047384 >The Horus Heresy was a fucking mistake Look at the state of the Imperium after it happened.
>>1047384 I wouldnt call it a "mistake" but rather an "unfortunate accident". Let me explain! >It was only supposed to be a few books, but got super popular and ended up massive and convoluted >Because of this the main star (Horus) suffered the worst. His character depiction is all over the place. Charismatic good guy -> asshole -> clueless good guy -> victim ->meat puppet -> "ackhyully" not a meat puppet -> wayward son who solos Sanguinius and Big E, but at the end let himself unalived (as a final fuck you to chaos) >Authors have a (well know) unspoken rule: Dont touch others OC characters. WHICH IS FUCKING STUPID!!!! Specially when events are super close to eachother. This leads to many "and wtf Giorno did during Part 6" type of situation. >Also author autism: Not consulting on main characters. See Fulgrim beautiful charcter arc getting destroyed by a short novel where turns out the laer demon were banished and Fulgrim actually not body hijacked. >GW milking the living shit from the event, making the whole thing unapproachable I going to post a reddit graph just to prove how fucking stupid and insane the whole thing is! (Dont scream niggers! Be glad someone was enough autist to make this graph!) A contained more focused Heresy series would be good. But just like Disney GW didnt planned jack shit. Yes its a mess, but it is a beautiful one.
>>1047251 An extremely modified version of the system. I wish they'd stuck closer to the source material. They overcomplicated it.
>>1047401 I thought it was faithful to a degree?
>>1047470 They had to modify it for a video game's use.
>>1047316 AFAIK Erebus wasn't a psyker, just that later on in the Heresy, he learned how to use Chaos artifacts and Chaos rituals. These aren't detectable like psyker abilities are. >>1047391 This chart is missing a lot, as well. Not to mention the additional Siege of Terra books which came out later.
>>1047253 Who cares about the meta balance? Collect and play what you think is cool. Tourneyfags are gay. That being said the general consensus is that 10th edition is pretty shit all around, especially for neglected armies like Votann.
>>1047667 10th edition was another soft reset like 8th edition was, just it got dumbed down even more. Especially when it comes to actual customization for your minis. They're really pushing the "only whats in the box" rule to discourage kitbashing or any creativity people could exhibit. Combi weapons, which for years was a straightforward "Plasma/melta/flamer strapped to a bolter" now is just one generic anti-infantry weapon. Chaos got it the worst, with no dual lightning claws for more than one chaos terminator, and only a max of two combi weapons in a squad because that's what's in the box. You'd be better off playing Horus Heresy or any older edition. Hell, even Age of Shitmar is probably better at this point.
>>1047391 for me it was the Erda shitstorm, it was funny to watch from afar
>>1047230 Ah nice, a new thread. Here's a source of pride and jealousy of our franchise, from raycevik
(134.42 KB 735x651 pic unrelated.jpeg)

>>1047691 I personally think Erda was a missed opportunity, but the majority of 40k fans would skin me for this opinion. >>1047704 >lets cater to the minorities and tell the majority to fuck off >the minorities who notoriusly struggle with finances >get surprised when you dont make money because your trans fans are dead or burning money on charlatan "doctors" >see franchise aimed to rich autists and the majority >see company and fandom shitting out content for the money spending majority >get surprised how they have more lore and toys than you The left not just cant meme, but absolute abysmal with math. >>1047669 >tourneyfags are gay Man, the problem is deeper than that. You dont need to be a turbo autist to have problem with 10th. Some factions (im looking at you sisters) so fucking busted it just not fun to play against. You want a chill and relaxed gameplay with your old friends, but the game is so unbalanced its ruins the fun. Of course you could ban certain factions, but are you really going to tell your pal that the expensive figurines he bought, painted and loved are not welcome in your house because their rule set is broken? I dont think so. As >>1047669 pointed out most of the people play by the old rules, which is 4th for old fags and 8th-9th for the newcomers.
>>1047669 >>1047709 Wow it's really worse than I thought. The last I actually played a game was 8th to be honest, I've just been painting minis since then.
>>1047709 missed opportunity for what? Making the emperor look bad?
>>1047725 >She can solo 4 different chaos greater demon, You would think someone this powerful (few steps below Malcador in scales) would be more in the focus of the story/lore. >Fucks up the primarchs and Big E's main plan You would think she would be on the focus after this big fuck up, BUT 99% of the cast just ignors her. >Has a (presuambly) tight backstory with pre-empire Big E. Atleast use her to show how metal was the Emperor during the unification wars! Yoi know. The time when he was the fucking underdog on a fucked up Earth! I bet anyone in this board can make a better and more involved lore to her than the hacks at BL. >Making the emperor look bad? Like Jimmy Space needs anyone to make him look bad

>>1047709 >>1047704 Not just that, EA never licenses its property to anyone else. Other than to make Mass Effect mobile games. They have kept their golden goose hidden to release one mediocre rpg every 7 years and wonder why their IPs aren't making money. EA jew execs don't even know how valuable mass effect franchise would be if it was made into a legit sci-fi epic franchise with shooters, RTS, isometric rpg, space explorer sim, or even just Visual Novels to keep the tumbler fan fictions rolling. Meanwhile GW hands over licenses to bosnian ex-prison members to shit out a Gothic Armada over the weekend. Guess who's fanbase is alive and thriving?
>>1047704 Watching Leafs seethe is always entertaining.
>>1047734 Anon they did the same with fucking C&C
>>1047729 jimbo space is humanity's best hope. At this point I think the author (who loves neopronoms) just wanted to trigger "chuds" or something
>>1047734 Mass Effect is pretty dead after the 3rd game and then 40k had licenced one of the best CRPGs to come out in years.
Here to report that Murder waifu can become your official waifu who'll give you children if you fix her.
>>1048306 >tfw Chaos route and I plan on thoroughly breaking her
>>1047734 I think you're underestimateing the following that 40k had from the outset.
>>1047251 Um, I don't think so. My rpg group still plays that and its pretty different.

>>1048306 Only real choice for an Emprah fearing Rogue Trader, since the other options are a heretic, and abhuman, and a xenos (Not that there's anything wrong with the last two)
>>1048441 It's based off it not a 1 to 1 of it.
>>1048392 You monster.
Out of all the people to grab the W40K license, how come nobody else expressed interest in making something similar to Inquisitor Martyr once more. Heck, why hasn't Joe Mad and company not taken the license up for a spin given how much his style could work with an action game based on the series? Heck, I'd take a pseudo-DMC tryhard katana brandishing Tau game at this point. >>1047704 >Here's a source of pride and jealousy of our franchise, from raycevik Good. Fuck him. >>1047734 That would require Wilson and the other fuckwits at the top to aknowledge that things other than Sportsball.exe and Star Wahs make money amongst the public and maximizing profit is all about the end result not how many extra 0s you need this month to cover your retarded expenses on what is essentially a broken tech demo for the spaghetti code of a failing engine that hasn't been updated in 15 years.
>>1048725 >Joe Mad He went off the deep end with TDS and the sjw mindvirus.
>>1048726 Wait, really? Damn shame to hear about that, really enjoyed his Darksiders and Battle Chasers games.
>>1048728 I still really like the Darksiders games but he like a lot of artists really fucking lost it.
Amazons Secret Level show has a 40k. It follows Titus...'s black squadmate as they drag a priest in a box to go combat a cult of Tzeentch. It has the animator behind Astartes on it otherwise it's really dark. There are other episodes like Unreal Tournament but I don't recommend watching it. Plus it's Amazon, they push a black character whenever they can. https://files.catbox.moe/xwodr6.mp4

>>1048828 It's a great Patch.
RT 40k after playing the fit girls version for 5 hours I immediately bought it and the dlc. Owlcat made such a good game that I decided to reward them with a legitimate purchase.
>>1048813 What could a soul like that be capable of? Dislike that they shoved yet another Salamander in Ultramarine armor but whatever, I'll let it slide since the animation was superb and he kept his helmet on

>>1050398 I don't know her either.
>>1048813 >Ultramarine with chains around his arm >that style was only held by the World Eaters and certain Imperial Fists who later became the Black Templars >and the ONLY reason why they did it was to wrap the chains around both their forearm and the hilt of their melee weapon so it would always be within reach >chainsword-wielding chain boy doesn't even do that For fuck's sake.

>>1050405 Old /tg/ meme, annoying fucking chaos cultist hwo taks leik dis al uf de taim. Usually accompanied by a perpetually annoyed chaos marine named Dranon. Always getting into all sorts of hijinks. Dranon has if I remember correctly killed chaos-chan multiple times but she always comes back because the gods are massive dicks.
>>1050412 >but she always comes back because the gods are massive dicks. Yeah in retrospect she might be the first example of a perpetual and it comes from the fandom.
(209.83 KB 500x500 Angry Beakie.gif)

>>1050412 >chaos-chan CULTIST-CHAN YOU UNCULTURED NEWFAG SHIT!
>>1050408 Titus wears the chains around his arm to signify he came from a Deathwatch company. But in this short specifically, the chains are attached to the coffin holding the psyker.
>>1050472 Daemons and chaos champions always come back. Khorne, Lucius, basically everyone in the Thousand Sons, plus let's not forget about all the times the chaos primarchs have died (Magnus, Morty, Angron, etc)
>>1050472 >>1050499 It's the explicit /tg/ lore that the gods keep bringing her back because she's so annoying and they think it's funny having her torture the galaxy (and Dranon in particular) by being so annoying
>>1050497 So the Ultrasmurf gets "da kewl thing" without even using the cool thing it was intended for. Also, rewatch the video. He's pulling the coffin with one chain and he still has the chains around his arm. While I can somewhat appreciate it as >Captain Titus met a Black Templar in the Deathwatch and started doing X especially with the recent lore of the Raven Guard realizing that the chapters have stood alone too long to the point that they're willing to team up with the White Scars to fuck up the Tau, it doesn't really work when it ends up being >oh, here's this cool thing, but he doesn't do it right Therefore, fuck you. It doesn't change the fact that it's poorly written and bad.
>>1050536 Addendum: https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Deathwatch Ctrl + F "Chain" in lexicanum. ZERO RESULTS.
>>1050537 Maybe he saw a black templar beat someone to death with a chain, got jealous, got a chain.
>>1050474 Wait I called her chaos-chan? Why did I do that? I even got her name correct the first time, why did I call her chaos-chan mid sentence?
>>1050536 >Raven Guard >team up with the White Scars <to fuck up the Tau That's like the equivalent of two buddies going to "deer hunt" but in practice the just go out to set up in a tree, drink beer, tell old stories, and scare the shit out of all of the wild life. Because they both brought 50 cals.
>>1050543 You probably got Tzeentch'd
>>1050548 Short version - Farsight found out about imperial war-doctrine. He created his own version for the Tau called the Mirrorcodex. It became prescribed reading for the Tau when he bailed to create the Farsight Enclave. Shadowsun claims that you risk not only censure but death if you openly speak of it. The Tau managed to kill Severax, the former Raven Guard chapter master, which prompted the team up between Speed Forcers and the Wraithslippers. Both sets of information came from the 7th Edition of Warzone Damocles: Kauyon. They're trying to make the Tau a threat now.
Love the reworked ogre and orc factions in total war warhammer 3
>>1050632 Khorne is more my cup of tea, but I agree the new reworks and factions are awesome.
>>1050638 khorne is sadly too easy now especially skulltaker. Nothing beats the new gaze of mork orgasm
>>1050639 Khorne is easy as he's always been, but there's lots of challenges to be found on an individual scale, though not exactly on a campaign-scale. I had to fight lots of tight battles because I refuse to back down and will use every host to its fullest, and it feels very nice to beat the shit out of a much bigger army with a battered down blood host and then make more. Nothing so far has matched up to the fun of playing Chorfs though, those are the best.
>>1050641 Chorfs are basically the horrors of the industrial revolution crashing down on peasants I agree they are fun af. For me it's bloodhosts upkeep going from money to skull it has a snowball potential that is way too big. Also god damn those prices, glad I don't pay the dlcs

Soldier + Executioner. >Argenta is Soldier Arch Mili with heavy weapon focuses. >All combat boils down to me with Argenta and Cassia with Henrix. Will of Emperor, Voice of Command, etc stack all the buffs. Send Henrix off, kill in melee, activate heroic power, move around more and burn anyone he can't get in stabbing range. >if anyone is left alive, do the same to Argenta but stack range buffs, let her use burst fire with a heavy bolter (Found the gauntlets that negate recoil). 30 damage for 11 shots on target is insane, turning her into a Retributor. Abelard, Kibellah, Idira and Jae can't even compete. I used a heavy flamer with Argenta on that Genestealer cult and ended the battle before they could even move.
2248dfb8 The episode on 40k from amazon's secret level, made by blur studios. Its low on dialogue, high visual levels, and for some reason gamma is really low.
>>1051382 Obviously its a Rule of Cool Astartes styled movie, don't actually pay for this. The studio behind this actually made the cinematics for Dawn of War 1.

>>1051997 I didn't know that any of them ever do go home. I thought that they left forever when they deploy.
>>1051552 >16mb png jeesus mossa have mercy on our servers
>>1052080 Most of them do. Imperial guard has a pretty high casualty ratio. That being said a high casualty ratio of like 50% still leaves 50% left. even if this goes on for a long time eventually 1 person will make it back home. I mean look at her, she is missing a leg, an arm and an eye. She can't fight anymore, letting her go out there is just a waste of a las rifle. So just send her home. Obviously the imperium is pretty heartless but it is pragmatic for the most part. Guardsmen are supposed to be up to US marines standard and that missing leg alone would prevent her from reaching that standard.
>>1052131 Depends on the situation. If the guardsman likes their job and is good at it, they'll fit that guardsman with a genuine prosthetic. And not just a crappy modern-era kind, but a mechanical one like the adepts would have. This is very rare, but then again, a guardsman losing a limb and surviving and being good at their job is also very rare. I wouldn't expect to see a corporal or even most rank-and-file sergeants fitted with an exclusive Mechanicus prosthetic, but you definitely see commissars, generals, commanders, colonels, etc. (basically most officers) with them. This can range from bionic eyes to entire arms or legs. That said, the Imperium needs good teachers and instructors in war, so the schola progenium hires veterans most of all to teach their new wave of recruits in the art of war and combat. They are definitely similar to Starship Troopers in this sense, that they don't let cowards teach the incoming wave of new recruits in how to be brave.
(686.63 KB 506x764 =I=.png)

>>1052131 Is that some new lore? As I remember it, guardsmen have virtually no hope of ever seeing their home planets again, and even the rare one-in-a-million that survives long enough to age out (lol have some juvenaut) retires to a paradise world somewhere... where they probably get killed by either a Slaaneshi pleasure cult or some Inquisitorial acolytes who, in a panic, call for an orbital bombardment when they fail to stop said Slaaneshi pleasure cult from summoning some daemonettes.
>>1052277 I know most guard veterans when they're mustered out are used as colonists for whatever worlds the Imperium colonizes/recolonizes or else to replace the native population of the world if they've been culled for heresy/witnessing heresy. Most Cadian regiments had that as their retirement plan.
(63.00 KB 948x350 planet of guardsmen.png)

>>1052277 >>1052281 Most guardsmen don't WANT to return home after having seen much of the galaxy and the diversity of worlds one could live on. They probably hear a lot about paradise worlds or decide to go on a pilgrimage to Terra. A huge chunk of the Imperium's soldiers are recruited from worlds with a surplus of population, and most likely squalid conditions. Hive-cities, agri-worlds, forge worlds, etc. I also imagine travelling between solar systems would be rather expensive and impossible for all but the most seasoned veterans.
>>1052299 >>1052277 >>1052281 I suppose it might be a bit different for an abhuman, especially a nightsider. They're going to feel way more comfortable with their own kind and on their home planet or at least another planet with a similar environment. They're also a bit more valuable than the base standard guardsman, due to being able to operate in a difficult environment for an unagumented human. If she's injured enough to not be assigned to frontline duty she could still be garrisoned back home and charged with developing a nightsider regiment for specialty deployment.

>>1052755 I've got fighter hand stiffness, my shit won't curl up that way anymore.
Why is Roboute Guilliman pushing so hard for a Human Eldar alliance? That one Eldar waifu saved him but the rest of the Eldar seem to want Humanity gone. Could someone explain to me? I'm a newfag to 40k.
>>1052796 There are bigger threats in the universe. I think it is also partially influenced by meta reasons. People expect the Elves and the humans to be on the same side even if these elves are genocidal assholes. Thus the author has them making an alliance and helping each other even though Eldar are more than willing to kill entire planets of humans just to save a single eldar. It is just more awful new lore. Ignore it.
>>1052796 Because Chaos is about to spill out completely into real space and turn the entire galaxy into a giant Eye of Terror. The new Eldar faction is lead by an Anathama type being that wants to KILL CHAOS so they're pretty closely aligned at the moment. There's even some implication that Dad told Big G to blanda up with the Eldar even when they had their heart to heart chat. Certain factions of Eldar have always attempted to work with the Imperium, with limited success. Both sides know that the alliance is a bit self serving and neither humans nor Eldar ultimately want to be the client species of the other but considering the alternative is literally going to Hell, the adults in the room on both sides understand detente. >>1052799 >even though Eldar are more than willing to kill entire planets of humans just to save a single eldar That's because they know that they have no permanent Heaven any more while faithful humans do with the Emperor so they consider it the lesser of two evils. Also different subfactions of Eldar vary in their levels of extremism and xenophobia. For the record the Imperium is the same way. The Ordo Malleus, including Grey Knights, stood guard over a dead craftworld once to protect the soul stones so they could hand them back over to Eldar because they KNOW that permanently killing Eldar and destroying soul stones just empowers the Tranny God.
>>1052767 Were you a boxer, anon? Or did you break your hand punching a wall like a Chrischan?
>>1052682 >Shut up, you fool! They're heretics! <You know what, Hatemonger? You're a bully! >Yes. <Oh....
>>1052827 I've got retard strength, high pain tolerance, and anger issues, so I work it out punching a training dummy and hard surfaces until my hands are red.
>>1052796 >Could someone explain to me? It's a meme, and they dont like eachother. Girlyman more tight with Eldrad. And since Eldrad is an absolute bro he easily get the pass on being a xeno. >I'm a newfag to 40k First, am glad you admited it. Have fun learning more. Second, dont believe anything what the faggots on grimdank speard. 90% of the 40k misinformations came from there. Like many anon pointed it out in this thread, the Rogue Trader rpg is very good start to learn the basics. The game dialogue system has a mini wiki which sums up most of the lore bits in 3 or 4 sentences.

>>1052859 >Eldrad is an absolute bro ELDRAD IS A HUGE DICK, AN ABSOLUTELY MAJOR DICK, THE DICKEST DICK TO HAVE EVER DICKED! He's pretty cool though.

>>1052869 He's bros with Alpharius at least.
>>1052869 Speaking of Bros, I like the fact that the Fucking Silent King is a Sanguinius fan and is sad that he died.
>>1052881 how could he have known about Sanguinius?
>>1052895 Because apparently he woke up during the Great Crusade and met Sanguinius at some point, and he was so struck by how cool he was that he decided to help the Blood Angels against the Tyranids just because he respected Sanguinius that much from their one meeting (Matt Ward wrote that lore, if you couldn't tell.)
>>1052796 Because groups of the Eldar outside of Big G's waifu are reaching out to the IoM as Chaos has split the galaxy, in half and even more nid hive fleets are showing up (implication that the galaxy is surrounded). At this point a lot of figures on both ends of the IoM and various Eldar factions, are willing to put aside thousands of years worth of distrust/hatred to survive this shitshow.

>>1053040 >Calcazar looks at the Rogue Traders in the Krononus Expanse. >Calligos Winterscale is a secret Khorne worshiper who cares for nothing apart from the next fight and is a loose cannon that needs to be put down. >Incendia Chorda is a Puritan in every sense of the word and is using her entire protectorate as a middle finger to her mother and to cleanse all the Heresy she sees. Extremely unstable. >Then there's the Von Valancius scion. Didn't bomb Rykand Minoris when it turned into a Daemon world (Need to purge later), has survived countless meetings with the Dark Eldar and has a pet Eldar Ranger with her. She places people above all and is a Xeno Fetishist who doesn't turn away from the dangers of the Expanse (Darkness, Mirror). >In other words, she's naive. Yes... she will do. I can almost imagine what the Lord Inquisitor thinks of the Rogue Traders.
>>1052724 These turned out far unique and true to 40k. Furries are essentially slaanesh cultists
>>1053050 >Rykad Minoris >need to purge later I doubt Calcazar has a way to remove a daemon world. Henrix told you it's a bad idea and he was right. They're permanent and the souls of people on the planet are trapped there until they stop existing, if you let a planet go to shit that badly it will be there probably forever, threatening everything around it. There might be a dark age of technology thing that could remove it somewhere in the Imperium, but I doubt it's likely Calcazar could get his hands on that, even if he's a Lord Inquisitor.
>>1052909 that's idiotic he didn't sleep he left the galaxy in penance then met the tyranids. Ward is a hack
>Done the Entire Commoragh segment. >Killed the Execution Engine Master early on. >Now just need to Rescue Henrix. >But can't because I need to pass a fucking persuasion check from this dildo even after the Haemonculus agreed to let him go. THANKS OWLCAT.
>>1053384 Reload and try again.
>>1053392 The whole segment feels like railroading. They want to do Alushinyrra from WOTR again but it does have the same feel as scouting out a city. It's just misery of back tracking over the same 3 areas. 6 hours lost and I have to go over all the conversations and stuff again. urgh.
