The best Mario 64 decompilation thing is the Render 96 Project. There are lots of games that I've never played, and if I want to play a new game, I can. What I want is the best version of the original game. What I want is the original version of the original game. And that's what Render 96 is. Underage babbies won't get it, but this is what Mario 64 looked like back then. When you saw it, after seeing the game cover and the ads and the paintings in the game, your brain filled in the blanks, and when you saw a goomba, it looked like the one in the painting, not the one that the actual model had. Render 96 isn't changing the game, it's restoring it.
I also like the mods for Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 that fix almost all of the problems the PC ports added, and then let you do things like add fan-translated subtitles since the original subtitles are based on the dub and not the actual original script. Very minor, but I just want the best version of the game.
I can never shill hard enough Castlevania II Retranslation + Map, which does exactly what it says. Accurate translation, including the parts that are stupid on purpose, and a digital version of the map that was included in the Japanese manual. That map was very badly needed, and being able to press Select to look at it is incredibly useful. There are also options to do things like replace the fake blocks with real blocks, and let you jump off stairs, and other things like that, but I don't do those since that's changing the way the game was intended. I do like the option to add an opening cutscene that is a translated version of the story from the Japanese manual, with appropriate screenshots from the original game and this game to illustrate the action. That's a nice touch.
For one that is new content and not just restoring a game, Sonic Robo Blast 2 is pretty cool. It's Doom modded into being the first true 3D Sonic game. They've been working on it for over 25 years and it's still not finished, which is a bit of a problem, but what they do have done is very impressive. You probably all already know about it by now.
There is also a mod for this mod that turns it into a kart racer, Sonic Robo Blast 2 Kart, and it was very good, but a bit too simple in my opinion. It got a major update a few months ago that turned it into Doctor Robotnik's Ring Racers, and now if anything the problem is that the game is too complex, but I do like a pretty good amount of complexity in my kart racers. Just try not to be intimidated when you start. The tutorial is too long and throws too much info at you all at once, and frankly I think that's bad design and not needed. You don't need to know everything before you just go and play the first cup. I bet over time they'll do more updates that split up the tutorial so that more complex stuff is introduced after you've already gotten a chance to just play the normal game, and that alone will make things a lot better. Again, this is still getting updates and probably will forever, but it actually does feel like a full kart racer, and a very good one with an absolute ton of content, even if you don't add further mods to it. Because oh yeah, one of the biggest appeals of Robo Blast 2, Robo Blast 2 Kart, and Ring Racers, is all the mods you can add, or "Add-Ons," as they call them. People were mad at Ring Racers because it broke compatibility with all Robo Blast 2 Kart mods, but people have made a lot of new ones already. The only mods I cared about were new characters and new tracks. Ring Racers has absolute tons of tracks in the base game, and a lot of new Add-On tracks are already made. For the characters, Robo Blast 2 Kart had essentially every Sonic character ever from every medium, plus zillions of other random characters. I will admit it was fun to play as Inspector Gadget drawn and voiced by Mike Matei, and every time you win he says "I told you to shut up, but you wouldn't listen." That isn't in Ring Racers yet, and neither are a lot of the more obscure Sonic characters I liked playing as, but frankly, there are dozens of default characters (most unlockable, though, as the game has a lot of secrets) and hundreds of Add-On characters already, so I can't complain. Nobody ever made a SRB2K mod for the best Sonic character anyway, Sir Bartleby Montclair of Dresden, so I'm just waiting for someone to add him to Ring Racers, then it will be not just the definitive Sonic racing game, but the definitive video game in general.

Yeah but he asked the best mods, and that site won't have a lot of them since it's heavily censored.
