Steven Universe Consensus Anonymous 05/11/2020 (Mon) 17:50:29 No. 770
With Steven Universe finally dead hopefully how bad was the entire journey? Was it "Oh god throw it into the woodchipper" or "Oh god, light it on fire before throwing it into the woodchipper!" levels of bad?

>>39525 You can't rape the willing. Plus that's hot
>>39504 >Watching it as it aired and going through all that speculation and waiting was terrible Exactly. The series introduces a lot of concepts and then it doesn't do shit with it. For instance they completely forget that Lapis was one of the strongest characters in the entire series and not doing shit with her on the WD fight. I've always wondered if that came from the show getting axed fo Crewniverse's absolute incompetence, but considering the show was already a dumpster fire when the gay wedding aired I'd say the later is the correct answer. >The songs are good, though Agree. The songs and the background art are the only two things that stay constantly good along the entire series. Sadie's VA voice actress signs terrible, but she's the exception, most songs are solid. >>39505 A matter of taste, I guess, I think Deedee Magno songs are pretty good, and the only thing I don't like from casting Ebersole and Lupone is that they don't get to sing way more. Heck, people were hyping Christine Ebersole when she got casted as WD but she didn't get so sing on the series, only on the movie.
>>39531 I have no idea who any of these people are....
>>39531 The power levels and the actual abilities the characters have are incredibly inconsistent throughout the series. Lapis should've been able to beat the shit out of Jasper with her water powers but the writers decided on the fusion thing instead when that wasn't necessary. Aquamarine is able to easily overcome all the Crystal Gems but then when she's fighting against Steven with that Ruby, they act like she's a joke. I get the picture that those sorts of details were overlooked in favor of the emotional beats, which don't even 100% work, either.
>>39532 Steven Universe's voice actresses, Deedee voices Pearl, Ebersole voices White Diamond and Pati Lupone voices Yellow Diamond.
>>39505 Bro the music is 25% of why this show was ever popular. I know taste is a thing but come on.
>>39551 The show wasn't good, anon. That means nothing.
>>39551 >Bro the music is 25% of why this show was ever popular. Again, don't come up with fabricated data.

>>39556 I'd love to be in love with pearl and she'd make out with me while she's intoxicated
>>39555 He's not wrong. The official uploads of Stronger Than You have dozens of millions of views and it pretty much became a meme to make alternative versions of said song which also had millions of views. The series got really catchy music, that's the main reason why a lot of people got into it in the first place and as I pointed out before it's one of the very few elements that stays constantly good along the entire show. >>39553 Of course, the show is not good, but we are talking about the songs in specific and not the show as a whole. >>39556 >>39561 Pearl is not for lewd!

>>39571 Pearl isn't for lewd, but for love.
>>39571 >millions of views Nice try, you can loop youtube videos in discord.
>>39573 Just like any other song, what's your point? >>39572 I feel very bad for birdmon. Sucrose introduced a subplot about getting psychologically abused by Rose and turned into an terrorist, but then she didn't do shit with it; one episode she just showed up and she was like "I'm okay now, here are my hippy friends"; she didn't deserve such mediocre character development.
>>39571 The songs are also just not good.
>>39579 Why do you think the songs are not good?
>>39580 Because they're... not good? I don't know what you're hoping to here. It's all ukulele hipster music with no melody or skill behind it or terrible attempts at rock music when it isn't trying to be sad. None of it hints. None of the singers sound good. Spinel's songs are the closest to being good but that's in the movie so it doesn't count either. It'd be like complimenting the animation for the movie animation done by Trigger.
>>39577 For all the focus on emotional stuff, Sugar did a shit job with half the cast's development.
>>39580 They're shit, plain and simple. Take the chorus of a 70s pop song. File off all the good or interesting parts. That's the melody for your lead vocals. For the whole song. Add bare minimum background tunes that make elevator muzak feel engaging. Add some bleeps and bloops if you feel really daring. Write all the lyrics in the most stilted, I'm-12-years-and-I-just-started-writing manner you can. Remember: repeat early, repeat often. If it sounds like a broken record, you're on the right track. Make sure none of the vocalists exceed the passion levels of a 43 year old retail worker on their evening shift at the cash register at any moment in the recording booth. The fact that anyone even likes that crap is a testament to how pop music is dead and buried. Just like the show's animation, the songs aren't bottom of the barrel. They're scraped together from the chamber pot some comedian put next to the barrel.
>>39583 That's the failing of the Adventure Time "Let the show runners throw shit at the wall until something sticks" approach to writing. Remember there was one bitch who was trying to make the show a vehicle for her fanship until Sugar finally tard wrangled her. Now imagine how many speds (Including Becky herself) went unchecked in the writer's room.

How do you cunts find this any of this shit hot? These designs are so jewish and tumblr they make my fucking dick recede into the confines of my balls.
>>39594 Off model drawings & imagination.
>>39594 Everyone is ok with lesbians and the only type of art style that people feel repulsed it's hyper-realism
>>39599 >Everyone is okay with lesbians I'm okay with lesbians as long as they're willing to turn their lesbian relationship into a bisexual threesome.
>>39595 Can you really be off model when the show doesn't bother to even attempt to stay on model?

>>39607 >taking advice from Ian taking advice from Kent Butterworth It's interesting, because according to IMDB Kent hasn't animated since the 90s. However, he's credited as being a timing director and storyboard artist for many things since. "Recognizing the character" is the bare minimum for storyboards, which may be what he wanted to say. Anyways, in all my long 15 minutes google search, I couldn't find the actual quote "If you can recognize the character, it's 'on model'." It may have been in the context of the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog for which he was a director, and referring to Milton's design for Robotnik, cartoonishly expressive. But that's a specific cartoon and a specific context which is lost in Ian's alledged quote
>>39634 He could've gotten a job in the industry after all. >>39637 They're once again ignoring the circumstances while grasping at straws: DiC made half-assed cartoons as long the license of such IP was relevant enough, the times their animations did look competent enough was because of the japanese or the taiwanese getting involved.
>>39652 >He could've gotten a job in the industry after all. Just like his brother could have gotten a job in the federal government if his background check didn't bring up his autismo sibling sending death threats to the then president.
