Inktober 2024
Get ready for Inktober
The challenge is to make one drawing each day based on the prompts in the image. Inktober is traditionally meant for practicing inking, but any from of art is welcome and encouraged.
Some people do the daily challenge and aim for consistency, while others choose a specific set of prompts to focus on.
If you do not like the prompts here and still want to participate, there are other lists you can follow instead.
Regardless of what you do, the main goal is to encourage anons to practice. We are all trying to become better artists, so no matter where you are starting from, don't be shy to share your artwork. Also feel free to ask for feedback or constructive criticism.
Good luck and have fun!

The Last Hill
Has anyone ever actually done this? It seems like it's a little too advanced for the instructions he gives you previously. Like the fenceposts are in single point perspective while everything else is in two point and I think all but the first part are going towards a false horizon.
Thoughts? Any brave Anons out there who've already traversed this and have any advice?

Is there someone wants to donate this book so I can disassemble the spine and scan it? I used to have this book but it went missing when I move out from my old apartment to a smaller room. It already took up space before so a digital copy would be nice but for some reason, there's no ebook from the official publisher. I've been searching every nook of chans and normet socials and none of them have the scanned book so I guess I need to start it myself then. I'll give my contact if someone interested to participate in this because I have the access to an library archive scanner.

Learning how to draw in 6 easy steps
>What is the purpose of this thread?
The point of this thread is to establish for people the foundations of what is required in order to become a great artist. The people this thread is best aimed at are those so-called "experts" wanting to get back to the basics, or newcomers wanting to know how to start their journey towards becoming an artist.
>Does the "six steps" mean I will become a great artists within the week?
No. The purpose of the "six steps" is to establish a foundation for all art and drawing. You're not going to become an expert overnight because drawing is a skill that you need to develop over time. However, it's pointless to constantly bang your head against a wall for hours on end because that will do nothing except burn yourself out and become frustrated. To put it one way, it's a better learning process to spend 10 days sketching for an hour than spend one day sketching for 10 hours.
>So, how does the "six step" process work?
All you do is spend 15-60 hours everyday, drawing each successive step of the process. That's it.
>What happens if I miss a day
You just continue on with the next day as if nothing every happened. Spending double the time is not going to make up for the day that you lost.
>What if I just don't feel like doing it one day?
If you don't "feel" like it, learn to work through it because what you're doing is building a habit. If you're still having a "hard time", just get out your supplies, and set them up as if you were going to still practice. If you're still not "feeling it", perhaps drawing isn't your thing and you need to find a new hobby.
>How was this process developed?
Referring to resources that other artists have recommended in regards actually learning how to draw.
So, here we go...

Inktober 2023
It's October, and it's time for Inktober!
The challenge is to make one drawing each day based on the prompts in the image. While Inktober is traditionally meant for inking, other forms of art such as rough sketches, digital artwork, and anything else are all fine and encouraged. As long as you make something.
Most people do the daily challenge and aim for consistency, so don't worry about being a perfectionist.
Others choose which prompts they like and only post for those days, so they can spend more time on a particular prompt.
Some people even use a different set of prompts such as a Pokemon themed set. If you however choose to do so I would share which prompts you're using.
That being said, don't over think this and make sure you end up drawing something. The only goal here is to encourage anons to share their art with each other, no matter how trash it might be. We are all trying to help each other become better artists, so feel free to ask for bullying constructive criticism too.
Good luck!

Selling art.
So let's say I'm desperate to make money for
>reasons
Although I'm not a great painter how do I go about selling this stuff?
Like hypothetically lets say that I produced something sort of akin to one of Gericault's head studies which aren't that great in comparison to his other works. or similar to Alice Neel, which is to say out of sheer technical failure.
Is something like this worth selling?
Regardless I think it's clear that I won't make it in time in regards to my skill in painting to produce quite the piece. I'll ultimately just have to cast the bait and hope something baits.
Where?
Do I just go to like a local Sotheby's or Christie's agent and bin the thing let them see if it sells, you know, at all? Do they accept early works from artists with no real industry experience? If not who does?
I know some of you guys had enough experience with traditional art, not sure if you've all only sold digital since, but I do need any help and this is the only art discussion board I know of.
How is something like this priced assuming you're given that option like online?
I've seen 6x6 inch paintings get priced higher than 24x32 inch paper drawings of higher detail. It's super strange. Does something like that really make that much money? I know the most costly sketch ever sold was only 7 million so my plan of selling drawings as pieces is probably out of the question. Regardless how does one go about selling these things?

Clip Studio Paint
So I've been debating with myself about this for a while, but from what I've seen CSP seems like a really good digital drawing program and every artist I follow seems to gush about it. Now i know that throwing money at something doesn't necessarily mean it will make your drawing easier or better, but I've been using Krita for some time now from the recommendation of a lot of people here but it honestly seems pretty limited as of now and kind of runs like shit on my computer for reasons I haven't been able to figure out.
I'm going to get the 3 month trial regardless to test it out, but I have a few pieces in Krita that I might as well finish first. I'm just wondering if anybody here uses it and what insight or tips they might have about it or if it's just a waste of time.

Drawing Hardware General
A THREAD FOR DIGITAL DRAWING HARDWARE AND PERIPHERAL QUESTIONS
I was drawing this morning and my tablet (HUION WH1409 8192) pen's pressure was acting up and I pressed down harder on it thinking the nib was stuck or something but I felt the nib get lodged into the pen. The nib was really stuck in there but I managed to get it out. HOWEVER, now it's not registering pressure whatsoever and I've tried sticking objects down the shaft to see if I could maybe get whatever was in there out or maybe reset the pressure mechanism, but to no avail. I'm pretty sure it's just fucked.
I found what model it was online but how exactly does replacing a previous pen work? Should it work out of the box when I touch the new pen to my tablet or am I going to have to install new drivers? Are the settings on it going to have to be reset?

Looking to know how to space "impeccably" in animation, especially looping walk cycle. counting naturality, physics, and weight of the character, i want to be able to generate poses, motor patterns that are at least correct enough to be a walk cycle, of various states,
the key is spacing and timing, drag/follow thru, i suppose. but there arent always rules for different scenes and perspectives...
this seems like a necessary basic skills to have but i cant find enough in any animation book.

I apologize for the incoming blogpost.
I'm a non-artist, but I've been told I'm good at drawing. I always had a passing interest in drawing, but the last time I drew was probably back in 2014 for an art class. I decided to properly sit down and draw something for the first time about two years ago. The first image (not Hitler by the way) is what I ended up with. I think it's pretty good, especially considering that it was
>1. my first portrait ever (not counting all the Crayola drawings back in preschool of course),
>2. drawn with my non-dominant hand.
Since then, I've done about eight portraits, all of them done in probably 2-3 hours. Only three of them I think are decent enough for posting. This next one of Elizabeth Taylor is my seventh and probably my best, also the first in several months. The first one is from where I left off last night while the second is some cleaning up I was doing today because I thought it might be good enough to finish. While I think it is decent work, it's not as accurate to her as I'd like it to be because I don't actually know how to do basic things like sketching. At the moment, the only way I know how to improve my art quality is to get some finer pencils and smoother paper. I have the bare minimum education art, in fact this is the first time I've been to any /loomis/. I also don't know if my artwork is particularly good, because I've only been told that I'm good by non-artists, one art teacher, and a guy in a draw thread who said I was ahead of most anons. My question is: where do I start at my skill level? Do I go do the most basics or is it more efficient to start somewhere in the middle?
Another thing, I want to segue into animation, with emphasis on human anatomy, so how do I go about doing that? My mind's eye is alright I suppose, but not nearly as sharp as my real one.

Vector vs Raster
So I'm relatively new to digital art, and I was wondering what the differences between Vector and Raster format is? I've been watching some videos on the subject, and from a brainlet's point of view, one would wonder why anyone would draw in raster over vector?
With that being said, (knowing that I'm a brainlet) surely vector art isn't some kind of end all be all format and that it is a tool with specific purposes and disadvantages compared to raster?
I guess what I'm trying to say is that the videos and information I've looked up don't really say any advantages and disadvantages, or why/when you should use one over the other, just the key differences.

3D Animation/Modelling Thread
About 2 months ago I started dicking around in blender doing 3D viewmodel animation using models I found on sketchfab (mainly TastyTony's Low-Poly shit). More recently I've been practicing character animation using a crude stickfigure-esque model I've rigged up to do very basic motions like pullups, running, and pushups. I'm gonna get into modelling eventually but right now I'm more interested in animation. Got a couple of examples of what I've been working on experimenting with camera motions and some other shit. I'll share some of the resources I've been using, but I'd appreciate it if some anons would care to share anything they've been doing. I haven't tried using the graph editor at all, I've been just posing each limb and keyframeing it.
I don't have resources that I've been using for character animation as I've just recently started practicing it, but regardless here's some of the stuff I've been working on. I've done a lot more, but either accidentally saved over it or didn't export it.

Currently I am still working on Fun With a Pencil, but I've started into the grind phase in the middle of the book, and want to lightly study color theory to go with the very simple characters I am producing just get some variance and keep me engaged. Sorry if this doesn't deserve it's own thread, couldn't find anything in the catalog other than the share thread, but I wouldn't know what to ask for specifically. Please help.
Pic unrelated.

What are some good books about getting into traditional painting and color after you've
>Mastered Implying.
traditional realist drawing?
I was dumb enough to try and hone in my drawing skills for years without focus on painting. Now that I've gotten into it, my under drawings translate horribly, I cannot properly mix skin tones, the verdaccio comes through too much on the surface, and even when doing non traditional coloring I still fuck up the form.
I need them now more than ever since every passing day seems less and less likely to offer some sort of golden path to a art academy or university for an MFA. I'm legitimately scared help.

/meta/ Thread
At some point a few days ago-as you probably noticed-the CSS and everything with it including the flags and banners-got BTFO presumably by a server side software update. I am in the process of trying to make things right but I'm admittedly having a h*ck of a time getting certain things correct. I'm going to have to call it for the day as I'd already spent an inordinate amount of time failing to put the element inspector to good use, but I'm optimistic things should be right as rain by this time tomorrow.
Feel free to use this thread to offer general suggestions, make or request flags (32 x 32) or banners (300 x 100), or otherwise shitpost to your heart's content.

Connecting writers to artists (and general shilling)
I'm really impressed by the work on this board that you guys put out, and I'd like to be that "for exposure" asshole and get some of you to work for notpockets or only small amounts 'cause I'm a neet like you. Long story short, I'm a failed writer with a couple of short stories that could be made into comics and some stories that are too long for that but I'd like to see scenes/characters drawn from. If anyone is looking for inspiration or something to work on, I'm looking for someone who can draw better than the stick figures that I can manage. You can then post 'em on your social media and show off your work, just credit me as the writer.
The "please draw my" characters come from a medieval fantasy, a 20th century cold war story with some fantasy/sci-fi elements, and a worlds-in-collision that mixes up genres but is heavy on sci-fi and medieval fantasy. If someone wants to do an entire story, my short stories include a magical girl parody that could be done in manga style, a D&D parody that could be done in a naturalist / classic fantasy style, a Teen Titans fanfic that could be done in TT2003 style, and a couple of ideas for rebooting Fearless Fosdick.
If the crowgirl artist is around and available, I'd like you to draw one scene. One of the non-crow pics you did makes me think you'd be good for it.
Another scene that I'm willing to commission would include fog effects, ice, lighting on different textures (metal, ice, cloth, skin). I'd like it done well so I'm willing to pay for it.
So, how do we do this? Should we communicate offsite so a story is new to readers when the artwork is finished, or should I post a script online and send volunteers to it? Should I throw out a character description a week and ask volunteers to draw them and post them at the end of the week, like the theme thread? If you take commissions or know someone who does, how do I contact you? If the mods don't want this sort of thing on the board, I won't be offended if you kill the thread. Are there other places where a request like this might be welcome?

What are some games, online or not, to practice drawing on? Pic related, but it doesn't have to be similar.

On Requests
This board represents a very small gathering of artists pursuing artistic self-actualization through a combination of labored study and strategic visual shitposting. We welcome all those interested in discovering the bittersweet struggle of artistic improvement for themselves to take up the pencil, the pen, the paintbrush or the p'tablet to join us on this board as friends. Please understand though that coming here expecting to solicit free or "cheap" work from our community is frowned upon-what you might flippantly spend seconds requesting can represent hours of work informed by years of study or experience to grant. Those enormous tits? Someone cried themselves to sleep trying to get them just right. That perfect dumptruck ass? Only possible through hundreds of highly detailed studies of the pelvis bone, gluteal muscles and the related fat deposits-to say nothing of the impassioned observation of countless references in extremely high resolution at all angles (all done purely for professional purposes of course).
A few of us may delight in participating in request threads on other boards on our own free time and on our own terms. Doing so on our own, sparsely populated board however is a totally one sided affair where the artist can expect as payment for their labors a pitiful handful of (You)s, coupled with further outstretched hands anticipating the delivery of more requests. It's nothing personal so please don't take it as such, but as it stands I will not allow requestmaking to find a permanent home on this board-we instead choose to reach out to any such people and invite them to take their first steps on their own journey, to seize the power within themselves to answer their own artistic longing with decisive and well-informed action rather than gracelessly pleading out to we few strangers in the night:
>"please help me masturbate"
I hope you understand but if you take issue with anything I said-whether you're an artist/regular or someone just passing through-I welcome any further discussion on the subject to be directed to this thread for now.
