>>6651 That's the plan. Got a piece of mahogany just big enough to cut in half, glue together and turn into a guitar body (plus squashed headstock depending on if I do an extreme cutaway (picrel). Would like to have a go at a 7 string 26.5 inch scalelength guitar, but finding exact measurements to start with the body (rather than placing the bridge after having a completed neck) is proving difficult. Might have to sneak a ruler into a guitar shop. I could start with the dragons, might have to. If that means nothing to non guitarfags it's because I don't know what I'm doing.

Inktober 2024 Anonymous 09/27/2024 (Fri) 05:39:33 No. 6771 [Reply]
Get ready for Inktober The challenge is to make one drawing each day based on the prompts in the image. Inktober is traditionally meant for practicing inking, but any from of art is welcome and encouraged. Some people do the daily challenge and aim for consistency, while others choose a specific set of prompts to focus on. If you do not like the prompts here and still want to participate, there are other lists you can follow instead. Regardless of what you do, the main goal is to encourage anons to practice. We are all trying to become better artists, so no matter where you are starting from, don't be shy to share your artwork. Also feel free to ask for feedback or constructive criticism. Good luck and have fun!

>>6811 Doesn't look bad to me, just add a little more detail/hatching maybe
Good job everyone who participated. I tapped when I saw the mono-thematic prompts.
Good job lad, yeah the prompts this year were pretty cringe ngl

Has anyone ever actually done this? It seems like it's a little too advanced for the instructions he gives you previously. Like the fenceposts are in single point perspective while everything else is in two point and I think all but the first part are going towards a false horizon. Thoughts? Any brave Anons out there who've already traversed this and have any advice?

Having said that, FWaP is an excellent book, among the best I personally think.
>>6741 This is rather belated now but I think one thing virtually every resource fails to mention about vanishing points is that the only thing they really do is define which direction something is facing. That is all. Houses are kind of a counterproductive example for demonstrating this since they tend to be built so they align on two axes. You can in theory place a vanishing point absolutely anywhere in an image. This cube, while sloppy as fuck, is technically accurate within this perspective despite having its vanishing point at some random point in the sky because it's facing upwards. Things parallel to each other have the same vanishing point, other things have other ones. The fence has a single vanishing point because it's facing the same direction as the angle of view. It's that simple, my man. Maybe Loomis, like many others, assumed that this is self evident.
>>6796 Good point, and true. While the horizon line is an immutable constant, upon it there will be many "vanishing points" in a given image (including WELL off the bounds of the canvas) and that's something I don't ever see anyone-including Loomis-talk about.

>>3300 Hey, guys, it's me, again. I can't believe my post is still here. Things have not gotten much better for me, creatively, but I've made a lot of progress in healing, mentally, and I'm making some strides. I've decided to try other avenues of creativity, and to this end, I've been buying materials and setting them aside in order to try Muppet-style puppets, sewing, and terrain building for RPG games. Why am I setting them aside? Because Covid was not kind to my boomer parents and, due to me not being able to work a job, I've ended up becoming a part-time (sometimes much more) caregiver to both of them. Dad's lost the use of his legs due to mini strokes, and my mother either has dementia or some sort of circulatory problem that's wrecking her, cognitively. He's living in a care facility, and she's still living at home, and I'm spending a lot of time between the two places making sure they're comfortable and surviving. In between various old folks appointments, I've also managed to make a new friend via church and my son is engaged to a lovely young woman who is the holy grail of the meninist community. The depression I've lived with all my life is still there, and most likely always will be, but I've learned many tools to combat it, and it rarely has a hold on me for longer than a day or two before it hides itself. Things are too busy for creativity, for the most part (although I still sometimes sketch simple things when the mood hits me), but I'm doing things that matter for the first time in a long time, and that's a good thing. When my parents pass, I'll start using the supplies I've stockpiled more often. Don't forget my warning from before, but know that, though it's taken me the better part of 15 years, I'm starting to claw back some things that allow me to create. It's not what I want, exactly, but I'll take what I can get, and some of these things may eventually unlock my art and writing blocks. God bless, and God speed

>>6792 I find it nice to hear about your heartfelt situation and current viewpoint. Here are some suggestions to aid you in healing and my view point on your situation: Mental health has two sides, the mental and the physical. The modern healthcase system seperates everything and misses that everything is connected and consequently influences everything else. Nowadays the main area to tackle physically in order to heal depression, is to clean your gut, by eating raw foods and vegetables or for starters, reducing the consumption of overly processed foods. The mental aspect requires the establishing and communicating of healthy boundaries. Heal the body by treating it with love. Heal the mind by talking lovingly to yourself. In regards to your parents: As of my current state of knowledge, if they've taken the COVID injection, then they're pretty much already on a short timer. Maybe divine intervention might heal them magically, but it takes the will to live and serve the greater good for receiving a gift of that magnitude. When big government tries to coerce you into taking an injection, don't take it, as they are biological weapons which effects are largely unknows to the masses, besides maybe that it's causing blood clots, which consequently lead to strokes, heart attacks, necrosis, dementia, etc..

>>6340 AI is only an issue for stupid gay illustrators. And I'm being very specific when I say illustrators, because they are soulless faggots that only create stock images. Artists need not fear AI, since, like anons say, its about the creative process as a hobby and also the fact that if you are creating art professionally no AI can replicate a human because AI is homogeneous. Even if it is trained on your works it will only ever be able to create a middle-of-the-road derivative of you. But you alone can create a new and unique artwork.
>>6764 this is not mine if someone assumes
>>6764 I don't like AI because of the intention behind it, which is to further disenfranchise working artists (intentional) and demoralized those with the potential to become such (perhaps unintentional). I also feel it is an attack on artistic endeavor itself; the AI artist is deprived of the satisfaction of true creation and in its place he's given the spiritual equivalent of a graciously specific google image search. The content generated itself I am totally ambivalent to.

Is there someone wants to donate this book so I can disassemble the spine and scan it? I used to have this book but it went missing when I move out from my old apartment to a smaller room. It already took up space before so a digital copy would be nice but for some reason, there's no ebook from the official publisher. I've been searching every nook of chans and normet socials and none of them have the scanned book so I guess I need to start it myself then. I'll give my contact if someone interested to participate in this because I have the access to an library archive scanner.

Learning how to draw in 6 easy steps Anonymous 03/15/2021 (Mon) 17:58:18 No. 1991 [Reply] [Last]
>What is the purpose of this thread? The point of this thread is to establish for people the foundations of what is required in order to become a great artist. The people this thread is best aimed at are those so-called "experts" wanting to get back to the basics, or newcomers wanting to know how to start their journey towards becoming an artist. >Does the "six steps" mean I will become a great artists within the week? No. The purpose of the "six steps" is to establish a foundation for all art and drawing. You're not going to become an expert overnight because drawing is a skill that you need to develop over time. However, it's pointless to constantly bang your head against a wall for hours on end because that will do nothing except burn yourself out and become frustrated. To put it one way, it's a better learning process to spend 10 days sketching for an hour than spend one day sketching for 10 hours. >So, how does the "six step" process work? All you do is spend 15-60 hours everyday, drawing each successive step of the process. That's it. >What happens if I miss a day You just continue on with the next day as if nothing every happened. Spending double the time is not going to make up for the day that you lost. >What if I just don't feel like doing it one day? If you don't "feel" like it, learn to work through it because what you're doing is building a habit. If you're still having a "hard time", just get out your supplies, and set them up as if you were going to still practice. If you're still not "feeling it", perhaps drawing isn't your thing and you need to find a new hobby. >How was this process developed? Referring to resources that other artists have recommended in regards actually learning how to draw. So, here we go...
76 posts and 194 images omitted.
>>6674 Anon, I hate to say it but he said 15-60 hours. An obvious exaggeration, but the more time you can spend the better... unless you feel like you're just spinning your wheels endlessly.
>>6675 >the more time you can spend the better That is just my way of getting myself into the rhythm of things. Start off with really small time investments then once I get into it more, I can put more time in. I've noticed if I start out trying to force an hour+ a day learning whatever, I'll quickly start viewing it as a chore and not something that I want to do for fun which will kill it for me.
>>6674 My wife has tried this method for the past two months and the improvements she made is terrific. However, your best bet when hitting an art block where you don't achieve any further improvements is to try and draw something completely different from what you're trying to learn. Like switching from faces to still life for a week.
