Thrive a game by revolutionary games Anonymous 04/17/2025 (Thu) 15:57:13 Id: 339909 No. 1114658 [Reply]
Thrive is an opensource evolution games inspired by spore and infact can trace back it's origin to sporum. Currently it's in very early development in that only the first stage is actually functional from a gameplay standpoint. The game obviously starts you off as a cell and so far simulates everything from thebplanet generation, population and evolution of different species of cells, predation and many more. The game has plans for 3d multicellular animal stages you will be avle to play as a static plant too to spacefaring civilization and to a sandbox stage where your species ascends and becomes a god. These later stages are in the game but only as prototypes. https://www.revolutionarygamesstudio.com/downloads
>>1114658 Wow that's cool to see someone else know about this little game, it's been worked on for a while now. I think this game could immensely benefit from generative AI technology.
>>1135010 Maybe in the voice department. Or flag stuff. Not really in many stuff you can pu it in this game.

>>1168568 Yes it's much better imo, obviously the lack of other players is a downgrade there's a lot less 'life' in spt, but SAIN AI, realism, in-game map mods and no cheaters make it the game a much more satisfying loop over base tarkov.

Is it just me or is this game kind of boring? You move slowly, the enemies aren't much of a threat and the gunplay feels very underwhelming. I'm playing on Postal difficulty because I figured it was the normal one, should I pick a harder one?

The Death of Arena Shooters Anonymous 04/16/2025 (Wed) 01:31:26 Id: 54ddba No. 1092808 [Reply]
Why did arena shooters die off? Now all anybody plays for fps games is cod, apex legends, valorant, or some other garbage. If you can't find enjoyment in the gameplay aspect of a game inside of multiplayer and single player that game is shit and the only reason you like it is because you like competing with other people. I can play UT99 all day against bots and have a good time yet if I did that in a game like cod shit would be so unfun it's not even funny

>>1168910 oh wow still getting a couple hundred ccus? impressive! wonder if the dev's making much from that paid dlc
Arena shooters never gained lasting traction because they demand deep skill before they “feel” good, you don't "get" how good it is to triple airshot anyone until you try it yourself, and most players just want instant, aesthetically pleasing fun. As a result, normalfags burn out before appreciating the game’s depth because they don't understand it, few newcomers stick around, and the genre couldn’t sustain its dwindling player base. Emphasis in Aesthetic. Aesthetic is way too important of a thing. Players just want to feel good, not be good. I think you can make an analogy to the aesthetic desire of each player to pic related, arena shooters simply never matched the aesthetic that people were looking for, the general feeling of playing it, because there were always other better options for it. The only exception being competitiveness, but competitiveness still requires attention and newcomers, and none of them ever had good SBMM or attention.

Welcome All New People! With all the refugees the last thread got bumplocked pretty fast even with the new limit. Hopefully this one lasts a bit longer. So, /v/, who's your videogame waifu? Got some good art of her you simply must display? Done anything to show how much you care for that lass? Care to tell us her favorite foods and treats? Gather around and share! Or you can just talk about your favorite female charcters, if that's more your thing. Show us all why your waifu truly is the best girl!

Vidya Cheesecake Anonymous 01/21/2025 (Tue) 03:52:35 Id: 7b598f No. 1063490 [Reply] [Last]
Before anyone says anything, THIS IS NOT A THREAD TO RAG ON RAZORFAG! I'm just using his post as an example because there seems to be this increasing narrative that vidya is not "allowed" to have any sort of cheesecake or fanservice in the title. And any game that "does" have this content "must" be a shit game by default. Now personally, I disagree with this take. If a game is good, what exactly is the problem with including fanservice in the title? We're all adults so there shouldn't be an issue. And even then, what exactly is wrong with a game being fanservice focused? Take for example, DoA Xtreme. It's a shameless mini-game collection only designed to unlock new bikinis for the girls, but what's the problem with that as long as you're having fun with the mini-games and basically playing the "male equivalent" of a dollhouse sim. My bigger issue is that it seems like attempts to remove fanservice from games correlates almost with the "same time" game quality took a nose dive. Now does this mean that "all fanservice" is good. No, of course not. One infamous game guilty of trying to sell itself solely on cheesecake was BMX XXX, and it failed horribly as the game itself was terrible. However is it "wrong" for a game to not include fanservice in some form? I would have to answer yes. But what do you guys think? What's your takes on cheesecake and fanservice in vidya?

Schedule 1 Anonymous 04/20/2025 (Sun) 04:07:57 Id: d6e918 No. 1167873 [Reply]
Back in my day, we played this on TI-85 calculators during lectures when it was called Drug Wars.
(56.27 KB 482x510 378 (1).jpg)

Always wondered why they never made a DOOR game out of Drug Wars so I could play with my friends online if the faggots ever got off the goddamned node and let me login. Maybe they did, and it just wasn't available locally. I sure as fuck wasn't risking getting my ass whooped over long distance fucking charges to find out. Dope Wars for Windows was fun too. Part of the game was read from a .txt file you could edit, so I customed it to have locations from my high school and then installed it on all the systems in the computer lab.
>>1167873 Schedule 1 was fun for a few hours but the loop gets boring without friends

Loading Screens Anonymous 04/18/2025 (Fri) 04:23:36 Id: f46e6f No. 1126049 [Reply]
Good ones, bad ones, quick ones, long ones, static ones, moving ones, or ones that are inventive. If you have a loading screen you find interesting, post em. Personally, I like the ones in the first Tony Hawk's Pro Skater game. The loading times are kinda ass even by PS1 standards but they have a great & memorable look to them (especially the wireframe preview of the level), are unique to each level, and shows you a few tasks to look at to pass the time.

Games Carried Completely by One Non-Gameplay Element Anonymous 12/26/2024 (Thu) 03:36:15 Id: 2f3500 No. 1054398 [Reply] [Last]
I was recently reminded of some games which, in my opinion, were carried entirely by the soundtrack. Immediately the ones which come to mind are things like whatever Tim Follin produced music for, like Pictionary on the NES, but also more contemporary titles like Skyrim and Mechanicus. Then this got me thinking about the other games out there which got completely carried by some other non-gameplay related element, like the story or the art style. I'm not talking a mix of one thing or another, but something going so far and beyond the rest of the characteristics of the game that it is recognized/remembered as the sole thing the game had going for it. I suppose another example would be Little Witch Nobeta which has pretty forgettable combat and even worse aspects besides, but it remembered because it has one cute girl in it whom the devs are not afraid at all to lewd in their official merchandise and marketing. Post some other examples which spring to mind, be it for soundtrack, artstyle, or something else - as long as it doesn't pertain to the gameplay.

>>1087604 gacha is not a genre. There are gacha games like genshin that have regular gameplay
>>1107173 > combat is a means to an end If you are fighting enemies for most of the game, then it is not really a means to an end. In skyrim i would say that the combat is a good 40 to 50 percent of the game. >make choices based on your character's skills You can't do that in skyrim. >light immersive sim elements, physics based everything I disagree with this, the only physics in skyrim are the individual objects that can be picked up or thrown around There is no other physics. For example, i can't boil water by using a fire spell. >Open world Not a unique thing, plus the world is very bland >NPC schedules This is the only unique thing skyrim has, apart from the first person perspective Ultimately the reason why people like skyrim is because they have low standards. Its not as though normalfags have played a large amount of rpgs or something, including those that call this game a masterpiece. For many this was basically their first AAA rpg

>>1128503 Imo they want to experiment with FF while leaving turn based to SaGa, octopath, dragon quest and bravely default so people saying they hate turn based confuses me. I think eventually people got too old for this genre or moved to gacha. I also think people spend so much time making headcanons about the genre that the moment they get a basic jrpg, they ignore it or think it's not enough. >>1128603 This I agree with. This is why I don't like constant fan feed. Ff7r project could have been something risky or just a 1:1.5 remake. This might be unpopular opinion but at this point it would have been better to actually announce 7-2 in the form of a fusion of >Advent children >Dirge of Cerberus but good >Epilogue And add certain ff7 classic parts as flashbacks like mgs4 did with mgs1. There is also this fear of OH BI NEW FANS WILL BE LOST but ff7 plot is not complicated nor have a huge cast unlike Yakuza or Kiseki games. But 3 long games will scare people away so I wouldn't be surprised if some people just jump straight to part 3 and read/watch a summary. They should also add an epilogue chapter to actually make it attractive for both newcomers and oldfags since it would be actual new materia, but if it's just the same story but longer it won't cause too much hype.
>>1065943 >FF7R Funny because everything you had said makes Remake more appealing to me, although I disagree with some of the changes, but it's still a solid gaming experience for those who love the original.

>>1110223 As someone who buys figures all the time, this one doesn't look like it's worth nearly as much as $200. It reminds me most of a $50 Pop-up parade figure if anything. The Armored Core games are fun as hell, I did a quad only run for nexus and Im doing one for Zinaida's Path in Last Raven. I need to replay Silent Line without OPI just for the fuck of it. Another Age just got stupid hard with the gen 1 bosses, but the idea of old mechs kicking ass in a modern era is cool. MGS3 was also fun, but before I play 2 I need to finish 1 and PW.
